Recently I was asked by a PHD student at UT to be interviewed for his thesis on arts community building because of @austinmicexchange. He and his team have been coming every week to our event to meet people and shoot video for research. This is already amazing, but the kicker is -- and I just learned this -- the team leader/professor in charge is none other than S. Craig Watkins, who wrote one of my favorite books ever, "Hip-Hop Matters". The fact that the man responsible for those formative words I read years ago is now not only aware of AMX, but actively researching and documenting it is an honor beyond measure. I really don't even know how to begin really appreciating it, but I DO know that it makes me feel incredible all over.
