I have a few thoughts about the most mysterious person in my crew - Woland (and his "kids" apparently)
I really want to show in one segment that his kind exterior is deceptive.
When Orlando helps the Sinners, they'll be asked if they're Woland's "child". To which they'll reply, "God forbid me to be one. I prefer to be stabbed a thousand times!"
To the crew's bewilderment, they'll reply that it's because Woland doesn't see the Sinners as equals. To him, they're nothing more than pets. Unreasonable, stupid. Would you demand the same from a cat as from a human? And he treats his children VERY harshly; even his "granddaughter," Hella, gets it, though she's got… "Teenage" rebellion.
And I think at some point they'll meet the others. The only one who doesn't get it is Behemoth. Well, he gets it too, but not like Azazello or Fagotto.
One of the challenges of writing characters like this is that I don't want to make them too powerful, like "haha, my OCs are the heads of every organization in the City!" So right now, we're most likely seeing Woland in his post-prime era. As the world and the City changed, so did people, for better or worse.
He's still powerful, with some of his descendants (and their descendants) in high positions, but still within reason. I think his "collaboration" with Limbus is creating a kind of "puppet" for himself, where he can push his interests using money, power, and knowledge, creating a new major player who will dance to his tune among the Wings. That's why he sees the Sinners and the Master as keys, as tools, but nothing more. Who knows…maybe that will change…
Interesting facts:
- The main motif of him and his descendants is stripes in clothing. Koroviev wears a striped business suit, Azzi wears trousers, Hella wears a jacket over her bare skin, and Behemoth wears a bow tie.
- Koroviev and Azazello are direct descendants of Woland, and Hella was "adopted into the family" by Koroviev. Azzi also has a descendant, who, in my , is the main one in the Middle Finger (there will be a separate post about this someday).
- Fagotto and Azazello have canes because they imitate "Papa." The former's splits, he fills it with blood to create blades, while the latter's is riddled with holes because he crystallizes the blood, creating a club. Woland himself is also a powerful puncher with a cane, but no one has yet seen what his bloody weapon looks like.
- Hella flaunts her "vampire" nature; it's her rebellion. Like, "We're so tough and strong, why are we shaking and hiding?" But she can't disobey, even though she often ends up causing a bloodbath somewhere.
