This dress is a vintage one I got many moons ago, probably from the St. Vincent de Paul store in Madison, WI. I have no idea where it was made, but it is definitely 100% polyester and it’s from a brand called FRANKY B.
I thought I’d use this post to mention a ~clothes problem~ I encounter a lot and how I solved it. The problem? Button-front shirts that gap and pull. Obviously my ideal situation is a button-front shirt/dress that fits correctly and thus, the placket stays smooth and closed. But sometimes that’s not an option, whether you’re buying vintage clothes or new ones - tailored shirts that fit DD+ boobs correctly are expensive! (I love these ones from Campbell and Kate but sadly they aren’t available in a large enough size for me.)
I love the style of this dress, but I would wear it infrequently because it had these dumb buttons that would never stay closed. The fabric is a little stretchy, so I don’t actually NEED do undo the buttons to get into the dress. So I took the dumb buttons off, sewed up the whole darn placket, and replaced the buttons with something a little kickier.
When you find yourself not wearing an item of clothing as frequently as you’d like, but you love it and can’t bear to give it up, give a second of thought as to WHY it’s so hard to wear, and maybe you can fix it! Is it too long? Hem it - you may not even need to sew to do this! Have you heard of iron-on hemming tape? NOW YOU HAVE.
Do the sleeves always roll down? Tack them in place! Does the neckline gap? Heck, you could staple it if you needed to (yes, I have done this. It is not a long-term solution). There are lots of solutions to clothing annoyances that take 10 minutes or less and will save you hours of “ughhhhhhh” down the line. An additional benefit of doing this is that I always feel SUPER ACCOMPLISHED after I do one of these things. I sewed up a hole in the pocket of these pants yesterday WHILE WEARING THE PANTS and all day whenever I got something out of the pocket I was like YEAAAAAHHHH I’M A ROCK STARRRRR.
Yes my hair is still crimped today.
I love the colour of your hair
