Hi, my name’s Snaps, I’m 20, and I make art. Just in general.

no one with any amount of power brave or enlightened enough to call what the western world is doing to children segregation. children are segregated from public life. children are a legitimate oppressed class
what else do you call it when third spaces place curfews for when children are allowed in, when public squares hire cops and guards to boot out any kids they find for "loitering"; when arcades and theatres and entertainment spaces mandate ID checks regardless of if their content is age-inappropriate or not; when parks for kids are constantly sold off for more property development, when public transport is gutted and tickets are converted to card-only systems, when micromobility devices are progressively outlawed under the moral panic pretense of "youth hooliganism", when cash is phased out of retail such that children have no legal means of purchasing anything independently? what else do you call it when children are completely barred from sharing space with adults on the internet? if we earnestly believe that children are an oppressed class who require liberation then we must analyse these things using the same language that we analyse all other class dynamics
Haven't had the MOST energy for drawing and what have you as of late, but make no mistake, i am no less ill about these two! Ive actually been having so many thoughts about coral's (speculative) biology,,, considering how coral is just a bajillion mini animals i figure her namesake might be pretty sensitive, and likely not just in the touch department either! (This post may or may not have been a sort of catalyst for the thoughts that led up to this drawing 👀) And while it's definitely pretty slimy, i think ena would make it quite clear she doesn't mind,,,
the more educated you get on fat issues the more you realize that almost everything that supposedly justifies fatphobia is actually complete bullshit.
most of the health conditions that are treated as almost divine punishment for being fat (like heart issues and diabetes) are being revealed to actually *cause weight gain* instead of being caused *by* it.
this goes for social 'consequences' of being fat, too. is that "neckbeard" redditor actually fat because he spends all his time online, or is it that he spends all of his time online because he's not treated like a person if you can see that he's fat, so the internet is his best option?
everything is less accessible to fat people. seats on busses, at restaurants, and even at things like amusement parks, are frequently too small to comfortably sit in for a fat person. people treat you worse if you're fat, or even try to avoid you entirely. you get judged for doing leisure activities, or even for exercising at a public gym, (which proves the claims of trying to motivate you to get fit are bullshit btw) getting filmed and laughed at, posted online for your body to be a punchline.
if you want to be progressive or body positive you *need* to be examining your beliefs. oppressed people are routinely forced into positions that, from the outside, may justify the narrative about these people. black folk are pushed into poverty, so that crime is often their only means of survival, enforcing the idea that black folk are criminals. queer folk are made unsafe in public so that we use codes to identify each other, enforcing the idea that queer folk are trying to secretly seduce people to be gay. and yes, fat folk are forced indoors and online so that they can enforce the narrative that we are lazy shut-ins.
#if you are skinny you need to take an interest in this#get involved with fat liberation#start fighting people on fatphobia#get mad at them when they are casually fatphobic around you because youre thin#make them afraid#defend your fat friends
‘MEMORIAL TO 418 PALESTINIAN VILLAGES WHICH WERE DESTROYED, DEPOPULATED AND OCCUPIED BY ISRAEL IN 1948’ (2001), is a work by Palestinian artist Emily Jacir, born in 1972, featuring a refugee tent embroidered with the names of Palestinian villages impacted by Israeli expansion.
i've seen a headcannon or two about coral's namesake, but it's something i've thought about myself a good deal, so i had some fun researching and drawing a bunch of different kinds of coral :3
(pictures of corals + some thoughts under cut!)
ok, so many of these will look like the complete wrong color, i was thinking more about shape, hence the lack of color in the drawings & my lack of research into what colors are even possible for these species, afterall i fear there are zero irl species of coral that do the squiggly line thing that hers does lol
Porites (yellow porites/ porites cylindrica): this is the kind i personally hc as coral's coral, it's got a nice mix of rounded and branchy and it's color is even pretty close to boot!
Elkhorn: one i've seen hced before, personally i feel it's a bit too flat to match her in game depiction, but i can certainly see where people are coming from. This one was pretty fun to analyze & draw too.
Staghorn: Another one i've seen hced, i feel the branches are way too uniform and spread out, but the color is actually pretty close.
Fire/ Sea Ginger: Another one that i could see as coral's namesake personally, although it's technically closer related to jellyfish than corals! Actually, did you know that coral and jellyfish have pretty similar life cycles? They're probably not too distant of relatives either in the scheme of things... Another fun thing about these guys, their scientific name contains "cornis" at the end, which kinda sounds like coral + penis lmao.
Pillar: the shape and color of this one is pretty close to cannon coral, but the branches are a bit on the thick side I fear. One of the ones I quite enjoy the shape of though.
Cauliflower: this one was more so included for fun rather than because it was strictly similar to coral's namesake. If the branches were a bit more connected I could almost see it, if nothing else it was definitely a fun one!
Lobe: not quite branch-y ENOUGH for coral's coral, but the color is pretty close and it's another one I enjoy the shape of.
Devil's hand: I was having some trouble finding differentiation between this one and devil's finger coral, but the picture I used called it devil's hand so that's the label I put on the piece. This is actually one I could see as coral's, the shape and color are pretty close, it's just a little off.
Sinularia: Another mostly for fun addition, this one is actually a soft coral! If you didn't know, soft coral are coral that don't grow skeletons, I don't remember if this was the only soft coral I could find that had a somewhat similar structure to coral glasses' but I'm pretty sure it's the only one included here.
Birdsnest: Definitely my favorite shaped one on the list, but not very similar to coral's. I wanted an even 12 entries, but there are only so many distinctly shaped coral species lol.
Mustard hill: color and shape are pretty close, but not quite branch-y enough, another one I had fun with though!
Acropora: this one was the furthest from coral glasses' that still had a somewhat similar appearance I found, regardless, I still quite liked it's shape to study & draw lol
Disabled people can be complete and utter assholes btw. They can have the absolute worst opinion ever and that doesn’t not give you the right to speculate on the validity of their disability. Disabilities aren’t some god given gift only granted to those with pious hearts or some shit. Anyone can be disabled, no matter what horrible takes they may have.
