IMPORTANT UPDATE
So yeah, things are gonna be on hiatus for a while. I have some plans to make some new Mao Mao material, such as the usual screenshot posts, fanart, analysis, etc.
But for the time being, you can ask me stuff and submit some headcanons and theories, y’know I’m a sucker for that!
Don’t worry, the blog ain’t dead yet! So I’ll see you around when I can fully return :D.
Today marks the one year anniversary of Small, one of my all time favorite episodes.
I got nothing else to say, but bring you this scene that made me so happy that I also cried.

Well this has taken a bit longer than I thought.
Finally, my ranking of all of Season 1 of Mao Mao! I was going to do this after Mao Mao’s Nakey, but I wanted to make sure that the season was officially over.
Now this was a really hard decision for me, since I wanted to see which episode was perfect for each category. But I eventually had an idea and made my final choices.

GOD AWESOME (My personal favorite episodes, this was VERY hard for me to pick because all of them are, well, AWESOME)
This is going to be a Top 13 list by the way. I was originally supposed to make this a Top 10 or 11, but I couldn’t help myself!
13. Trading Day In my opinion, one of the funniest episodes of the show so far. Each moment just keeps getting better by the last. Love the moments with Badgerclops at Adorabat’s school, and Adora trying to be Mao but just failing hard. Also the ending busted myself. Easily top tier comedy!
12. Lucky Ducky Mug This is far better than Sleeper Sofa to me. The use of the silent treatment was spot on, leading into some great jokes. Also the Sky Pirates were the MVPs here. They actually worked together in sync and managed to take down HQ Squad! Mad kudos!
11. Sugar Berry Fever Great use of more of Mao’s past from within the Hero’s Code. I still don’t know why his family hate cobbler, perhaps we’ll know in Season 2? But yeah, Mao’s obsession with the cobbler was hilarious, and that ending with the One Punch Man reference was perfect. One of the best moments in the show thus far.
10. Bao Bao’s Revenge Funny how this is also the 10th episode, ha. Seriously was surprised from when I first watched this, because I didn’t see it coming when Bao Bao finally arrived. But it was still a great way of showing Mao’s complicated relationship with him. Hopefully their bond could be fixed again if Bao Bao comes back.
9. Outfoxed Huh, also the 9th episode, well how about that! Rufus and Reg were such spot-on antagonists, and seeing them lose their minds over Mao and Badger’s trickery was perfect. Adora’s fight against them made it better. Really do wish we get to see them again.
8. Meet Tanya Keys Yet another character I wish to see more of. Seriously, I really love Tanya, and her moments with Mao Mao were both hilarious and endearing. Maybe in the future we can see a flashback to them being partners? Also, Badgerclops made this episode funny as hell. Especially love the part with him in the bag when Mao tries to save him, lol.
7. The Perfect Adventure Now here’s another episode that is the second funniest. Some great moments from every minute. Adorabat wanting to keep Mao Mao from giving up his goal is actually sweet, and the ending was worth it. It’s also memorable for me, since I made so many posts from this episode, especially the last moment used as my banner for the blog.
6. Mao Mao’s Nakey It’s exactly as to what it says on the tin. And I LOVE it! The idea of a characters running around naked while trying to retrieve their clothes can be a funny episode idea, and this proves that it can. The facial expressions are so good and that ending, while funny, is also kinda unsettling. I am glad that Gary’s still alive, but what this Mao Mao really d--y’know what? Let’s not question that.
5. Orangusnake Begins Finally, an Orangusnake episode, it’s about time. Love his backstory here, and how it ties into Mao, giving us a reason as to why he really has a grudge towards him. Also, this is the first time we get to see the Ruby Pure Heart’s true power, that was used again in Zing Your Heart Out. I will make a post about it later, but it really bothers me, y’know? Let’s hope that we get a Boss Hostrich episode next. Seriously, I would die in bliss if that comes true!
4. Popularity Conquest I love the references to other CN shows, especially the one that’s obviously Steven Universe. Right down to the ukulele! I also like the ending too. Mao Mao doesn’t really need to impress the Sweetypies by changing completely, being himself is what matters. Adorabat’s line, “I love you, Mao Mao!”, will still make me cry inside to this day.
3. I Love You Mao Mao The very first episode that drew me into this show. No cartoon has ever reeled me in with it’s pilot until Mao Mao came in. The story, characters, humor, and animation were all spot-on here. This is something that will resonate with me until the end. If you really want someone to get into Mao Mao, let them watch this, The Perfect Adventure, and...
2. Not Impressed The episode that made me realized that this was going to be something special. It was really intense seeing Mao go further into impressing Ol’ Blue and getting bits of his flashback with his father. Also Ol’ Blue is great too, love how he’s not obnoxious or a jerk, he’s just well, not impressed sometimes. I do hope that we get to see Mao Mao going to therapy again in the future, since I think it can at least help him try to improve.
1. Small This. This is it, chief. Everything about this episode screams perfect to me. Mao Mao’s struggles with his father, to saving him from a monster, to the ending where they get a small bit of reconciliation. I just don’t know what else to say, it’s just perfect.
Final Thoughts:
Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart is a show that I thought would never get me that invested, but it did. It was something that manages to develop it’s characters nicely, make some great humor, show off some spectacular animation, and gives off some surprising sweet moments. It’s not a perfect show, but it’s still one of my personal favorites, period. And seeing how some of my favorites are in their second season, I hope the same can happen to Mao Mao.
Season Ranking: 9/10
I saw some of the newer Mao Mao episodes and felt like drawing a scene from it. I did take some liberties with it. Thinking about it, his song is little like Winnie the Pooh in a sense, lol. Again, not really a spoiler, but I’ll tag it as one anyway. I liked drawing a gritty Badgerclops too.

Also, I’m gonna rank all of the season one episodes of the series this week Friday, to see which ones I thought were to the best to the not-so-kinda worst.

MAO MAO IS FINALLY BACK!
Took them long enough, but the wait is worth it! Now this blog can finally be active again.

But yes, the unaired 9 (10 if you count Mao Mao’s Nakey) episodes are gonna be released for two weeks starting tomorrow! But however, just recently, the first 5 eps are available now on CN’s website.
So if you’re planning to watch them all before they air, please make sure to tag #mao-mao-spoilers or #mmhoph-spoilers so that nobody gets spoiled.
