Confused

I’m not to sure how things work here. I’m used to a few rp sites where you send a friend request and the other either accepts or rejects you. Then you kinda message them and say hi and get a story going. I’m not sure what to do here. Like. Do I message people after following them? Do I wait for a follow back? Like. What is the norm for how things roll here?
