AVENUE OF HOPE PICSPAM ↳ LILY EVANS
I go through phases. Somedays I feel like the person I’m supposed to be, and then somedays, I turn into no one at all. There is both me and my silhouette. I hope that on the days you find me and all I am are darkened lines, you still are willing to be near me.
—Mary Kate Teske
something about the way you looked at me, made me think for a moment that maybe we were meant to be

Helping her stand, Christian gestures his head to him slightly, “Well, Miss Roosevelt, I’m not about to lay claim to an entire city like most of the people around here will, but I do know my way around, and I do know that the city at night is no place for a pretty girl to be, alone.” Doing as she asked, and leading the way from the crowded bar to the streets beyond. The chill in the air had him pulling his own coat from him, laying it over her shoulders as they stepped from the warmth of the building, gently pulling her hair out from underneath to fan out behind her. “So,” he said curiously, as he made a left at the pavement, “Does your father do this often?” He knew it wasn’t a conventional question, but Christian didn’t know the girl, or her father, so looking for him without knowing a little about the situation would make it like looking for a needle in a haystack. One foot in front of the other, the blonde male looked down at her as they walked. He couldn’t help but pick out the little things that made her stand out in a city like this, Putting a small town girl into a big world like New York was dangerous business, and in many ways he felt almost sorry for her in that instance.
"I believe that comment alone makes you more humble than most." the remark, like most that came if you gave the girl enough time, threw a little bit of shade, but only if you listened closely enough. Most people didn't. The action on his part wasn't at all expected, and she hesitated for a moment, but the cold was seeping through the thin fabric of her own clothing rather fast so she tightened the coat around her own body gratefully. Her throat got dry almost immediately at the question. She tucked her hair behind her ear, trying to meet his eyes as she spoke out of respect, but finding it impossible. Her mouth was open, but no words could come out. And when they did--they were a mess. "Yes--an-and no. I don't know." she shook her head, letting out a breathe and drawing her attention the cloud it created. "A long time ago he did, and then he quit for..." she trailed off, unable to finish that sentence, and skipping on to the next, "But ever since we moved here...it just get's worse and worse every night." She admitted. Her instincts to protect her family and their reputations kicked in instantly, and she began to back track, her voice rising with each word, "He wasn't always like this, you know and-and he's not a bad guy, or father. He just get's a little lost sometimes--I mean, we all do, and--" she stopped herself, her mind finally realizing how shrill her voice had gotten, how defensive she was acting, and how wide her eyes now were. She covered her mouth with one hand, the other beginning to reach out to touch his shoulder then drawing back. "I am so sorry. I-I didn't mean to get that tone with you, not at all. It's just..." she tried to laugh it off even though she felt completely ashamed of her actions, "family, I guess."
Katherine had no patience for a wanderer who faltered in keeping up — today was strictly about shopping and that meant business.. Also on the agenda was perhaps getting to know the one person the Upper East Side gave a hard time to. Not that she had thought about it much at all, but she had no idea why she even bothered.. except that perhaps she felt a little.. pity for the redhead who wandered around aimlessly. It was almost pathetic, watching her from afar, to see the way she was so hopeful for a friendly face. Little by little, Upper Manhattan tore the fresh meat down. And Katherine felt bad, in her own way of course. Sure, she was a new toy — but, someone Katherine felt like.. helping. Giving a back bone or roughening her up, one might say. Because if she was going to survive at Constance, she sure as hell needed to learn the ropes. “I think I like little red better, but I’ll keep it in mind.” It pained her to say it, but she knew the girl was most likely hopeless.. “Katherine. I’m Katherine Sparks. You’ll want to remember that name.” Madison Avenue.. “Told you it wasn’t too far away. Are you hungry? For the latest fashion, of course.”
Katherine Sparks. Why did that name sound so familiar? I mean, she'd heard tons of names passing through the halls and sitting in classrooms--the kids that didn't speak did know the most, after all--but this name was different. It felt important that she remembered, like she had to. And yet...she just couldn't. The gears in her head were still turning as she gave the girl a smile and a nod, surprised by how quickly the time had passed while she was in thought. "Always." she lied. Ivory loved buying a pretty sundress as much as the next girl, but fashion had never been her main focus. She wasn't one of those Southern Belles you always heard off--pampered princesses of the South who came with a little kick. She was a tomboy through and through, and the scars covering her head to toe were proof enough of this. She was determined to make the best of this situation, though. Katherine's kindness assured the girl that if she even seemed as if she wasn't enjoy herself, she'd ruin the event and feel guilty about it for who the hell knows how long. She was taken back, though, as she got out and onto the street. "Whoa," was all she could manage, taking in all the stores and shoppers. Her eyebrows furrowed together, but a smile played on her lips, "Where the hell are we gonna start?"
Nah, I am definitely talk to you, darlin’. Does it matter if we know one another or not? I mean, how else are you supposed to be meet someone? By talking and hanging out with them, no?
It's just..not exactly accustom to invitations from strangers off the street, that's all. I guess you have a point...okay, okay. I sure hope you know this city better than I. Otherwise we're in trouble.
Yeah.. uh, no one really knew. We aren’t exactly, well.. It’s a long story. It was one that was made by someone else, so I just use it, really. Normally I just stick to Elena, but since there’s two of me now, I guess I gotta give the world something to tell us apart. Ah, so I’ve heard. Often enough, yeah. Not so much now that people know there are two of us.
Well...If you need a break from all that Latin..I've got time. I think that necklace should be more than enough, Elena. At least for me. Better than that label, yeah? Which, you...shouldn't accept, by the way. I'm still slower than a Sunday afternoon on some things 'round here, so you'll have to excuse me.
