reviving my studyblr a lil bit to document the process of writing my thesis this year
my topic is set, and all i need is my advisor's signature to lock in my committee as well!
sharing late bc august really did slip away into a moment in time
it’s summer for me, but i’m going through the crash course theater & drama series bc i’ve never taken a theater history class & i think having some theater history knowledge will be beneficial for starting my thesis in the fall

Thesis Diary #37
New update on the thesis. I have finished reading and rereading the first chapter and I wrote the professor an email sending it. I also had a few questions to ask her so I did all in one go. I am a bit nervous but also excited to hear what she says about it, mostly because it will give me a lot of help with the rest of my work, as I will have a clearer idea of what she wants me to do. Aside from this writing related things today I did a bit of organization of the material I gathered yesterday at the archive. I have divided the photos in chuncks, and I have more or less decided which parts I will start working on first. Tomorrow I plan on rereading and reorganizing the notes I took while I was at the archive, and after that I will actually start working on those documents.

What are three things you want right now?
Some peace of mind
More confidence
On a much more material side of things, I want an exciting pile of new books for the summer months. Lately nothing on my unread shelves seems exciting for me.

January set up✨
so last month i started creating weekly spreads on sunday’s versus creating it all under one day before the new month started. im doing the same thing for this month and i absolutely love it because I became more creative, more excited, and more wanting to use my weekly spreads.
do you create your weekly spread ahead of time or the day/week before?
6 Things I Learned from Writing My Thesis
I handed in my master's thesis a month ago and it took me a bit to evaluate the whole process. Here's a couple of tips that could help you, and are certainly going to help me, with writing your current or upcoming thesis.
1. Exhaustive research of existing literature on given topic
Do this like the first thing, find everything you can find on your topic, save it, download it, make a list with all of the titles. Read as much as you can and ...
2. Take notes from EVERYTHING
You think you're going to remember, where you read this and this? Guess what! You're not gonna remember. Take notes from everything, write down everything that you deem as important for your thesis. If you like writing things down by hand, do that, but it felt impossible for me. I needed to be able to quickly look up a certain concept in my notes without having to read a ton of my notes to find it. I use EverNote for my notes, see here how I use it.
3. Talk to your supervisor/advisor on regular basis
It's easy to feel like you're completely lost, that your writing doesn't make any sense and you just don't know how to continue. Or you just want to talk about your thesis and rant about how this and this philosopher's writing is just freaking nuts. I talked to my supervisor once every two weeks and it honestly kept me sane and disciplined.
4. CITE. WHILE. WRITING
Really, do it right away, and highlight unfinished citation RIGHT. AWAY.
5. Edit, edit, edit
Write drafts, so you have something to edit and then edit the shit out of it. Kill your darlings, it doesn't hurt the letters to be erased. Editing is good.
6. Requests for edits and critical feedback are a good thing!
You just opened the doc with your thesis after your supervisor read and commented it. Half of it is striked through and commented. You feel like shit. But this just means your supervisor cares about your work, they're really trying to help you to make the thesis better. Work slowly through the comments and edits and evaluate. After all, it's your work, you don't have to listen to every comment your supervisor gives you.
I hope your supervisor and your thesis treats you well!

it's two days before now and i'm ready to die
Something different 🪶
Feather drawn by me, inspiration here
Happy June everyone! I’ve used this quote three years in a row now, and I still love it

i haven’t shared a bullet journal update in a minute and i meant to, because i really liked last month’s.
kind of minimalist pink and black sophisticate meets lemonade stand, with a calendar shout-out to a well played game of snake. i had so much fun with this font all month.
on to june!
i have a situation happening: i have too many stickers. after 14 months of new sticker club stickers with no in-person students or coworkers or coworkers’ children to share with, i have an overwhelming amount of unused stickers and it is STRESSING me out, which – i think you’ll agree – is a pretty ridiculous problem for a grown adult to have.
to remedy this, i am going full 3rd grade diary this month:
stickers!!! and neon!!! as an 80s baby i had at least one tiny article of clothing in every neon color shown here. (note: that shooting star sticker on the calendar up there? my birthday! i accept ficlets, emojis, and pictures of baby bats.)
details & more stickers under the cut!
