employer: so what would you say is your biggest weakness?
me: probably just like who I am as a person
i found my old blog for micah and some of the posts i had liked r iconic
intcrference:
he can’t hear it. the white noise that had become part of his life’s backdrop is absent. and he’s hazy, and he’s calm. his expression seems to process it; “it’s quiet,” he answers after a long moment. numbing, maybe–fading back all that dull, insidious ache. he had forgotten what normal felt like, he had forgotten what anything else sounded like.
dark eyes slowly turn to micah’s face. a moment goes by where he’s glancing over the handy-work his crew had done on the other boy, over the burn marks up his face where the edge of his knife had ghosted over. maybe he could manage to feel guilty, but his gaze drops off. “it’s been like, uh,” he gestures loosely, tries to think of the words. “a buzzing. and everything…every nerve, like. felt on fire. every feeling, turned up to eleven, all the time.”
he reclines back, lets the smoke from his cigarette peel out the car window–has just enough decorum not to smoke out the interior. a huff of a laugh; “shut up,” he says, without thorns, eyes following a seam on the roof of the car. “i’ve taken worse.” maybe a bluff; party drugs are a little different, and haven’t yet been able to silence the thing in his head. a pause, and he adjusts to lean forward a bit, turns cigarette in his fingers in offering. “are you always on this shit?”
colour him curious. the fact that dj had talked any of them into getting within any range of him was remarkable in itself, probably. let alone an outsider he had made sure got the message. but then, little blonde had a face anyone would trust. but none of them knew exactly what happened at night, none of them knew he had made a choice in the matter. so he tilts his head. “i know she put you up to this. but why do you care?”
he listens with patience, curiosity. the group of demon hunting acquaintances he’s made all have their stories to tell, how this thing is like static, or white noise, speaks to them in code. and yet, its been unable to navigate his own foggy mind, no matter how involved he seemed. maybe he’s grateful for that, that even when he’s hazy, his head’s still clearer; that it’s his own and not some freak monster’s to control.
“ that shit will kill you. ” he jokes, slight tilt of his head a nod to the cigarette -- he’s never been a smoker, but in the moment, it only feels right to share. so he takes the offer and a drag of smoke, unable to help a cough on the inhale. “ but yeah. it, uh... helped with radiation sickness. guess i just like the feeling now. or i don’t know what’ll happen if i stop. ” a wince. he doesn’t mean to overshare.
“ i don’t, ” he laughs. “ care. but love thy neighbor, even if he’s an asshole. or something. ” thoughtful, he looks at the cigarette between his fingers, and it’s easy to reminisce on old sermons that, frankly, he thinks were mostly bullshit to keep their little town quiet, obedient. kindness has the power to heal, to undo all the crap that unkindness causes. apparently taking drugs in the backseat of a car is equally effective.
he offers the cigarette back to atlas. “ it’s... you know, whatever. shit sounds scary, having noise in your head all the time. and, ” a lazy, toothy grin, “ it’s got me in your good graces for now. ”
me holding micah in my little arms... his tolerance for the anti sleeper drug is fukin whack. also probably has problems just Feeling regular touch at this point bc it really numbs ur senses
“ you feeling okay, man? ” he’s unsure about atlas. has been, since he had the displeasure of being roughed around by him and his goons at a party. frankly, its not the company he’d choose to take a dose of experimental drugs with in the backseat of his car, pulled off the side of some dirt road. but he trusted dj, and for whatever god forsaken reason, she thinks atlas deserves a chance, too. so it goes.
boy is curled in on himself in an awkward position, feet pushed up against the seat in front of him and his arms draped lazily across his stomach, his head a lull as he looks over to the other.
“ or... anything at all? don’t freak if it’s an all over pins and needles. the feeling’s what got me through the black eye...s from your crew. ” crooked little half-smile, micah's gaze lingers on him with heavy-lidded eyes. “ this stuff is really strong so... also don’t pass out on me. ”
@intcrference because i love u .
@dcadhand
‘ i did it to myself. ’ we look into what we shouldn't in this house
“ would it… make you feel better or worse if i told you it’s all part of god’s great plan? ” awkward half smile -- he’s never been very good at comforting, never quite sure what to say when people delve into their worries or problems. always feels easier to respond to heavy conversation with humor where it’s hard to tell whether he’s serious.
and it’s hard to know what to say, to feel that pull of empathy, when he has far less to lose; this isn’t his home, he doesn’t have anyone that would come looking for him if he died. the only stake he has in the amity springs horror is his own curiosity.
“ that’s a joke, by the way. ” he dismisses, leaning back against jun’s desk. “ i don’t know... if it wasn’t you, maybe it would have been someone else. at least in the front lines you know what the fuck is going on, right? maybe you can stay ahead of this thing. ”
all the other kids are getting possessed and then micah is just like. bro i’m so high all the time this thing cant get in my head.
the aesthetic of getting roughed up at a party thanks atlas
black bile / something vile
@intcrference
‘ you alright, buddy? ’ / but not in a nice way. the goons be hovering at a party.
“ yeah, man. ” he rubs his nose, sniffs, like he has more of an unbothered air to him than he feels; micah knows their type. even in a town supposedly free of sin, it definitely wasn’t free of assholes. it’s a pretty wild fucking concept, growing up in a place full of freaks and still being singled out by the excruciatingly small handful of kids his age.
the drugs help, with not caring. eyes are half lidded and heavy when he brings himself to level his gaze with atlas’. at least if he was going to get the shit beat out of him at a party, he preemptively wouldn’t feel much of it at all. he feels one of the cronies clap his back, like a warning, rather than like an old friend. balls up his sweatshirt in his fist.
“ peachy. ” he adds through gritted teeth, trying to ignore the feeling of the eyes around him on them. doesn’t feel like anyone would be too keen on intervening for the weird, unknown kid with radiation burns up the side of his face.
micah’s chin tilts up slightly then: “ you okay, buddy? you look like you could use another drink. ”
ah ,
will u care him... somft

‘it’s reaching out to you.’
“ why did you bring me out here? ...dj? ” he asks, slow, cautious, and he feels the hairs on the back of his neck stand. he doesn’t look at her – can’t, drawn by some magnetism to the deadlights in the woods. he tries not to look too hard, but the figure in the dark, the eyes that hover there are familiar, vaguely so. it reminds him of his dad, but not. different. he swallows hard, and hands curl and uncurl into fists, trying to steady his heart that threatens to beat out of his chest.
18 5 22 5 12 1 20 9 15 14 21 6. it’s a cipher. a code. on other ears, it sounds only like radio static, but he knows it speaks to him somehow. and he understands: revelation 21:6. i am the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end.
jaw settles as panic rises; he tries not to let it show on his face, and he takes a few steps backwards, his eyes still not leaving the woods. but his movement feels heavy, lethargic, like his body doesn’t want to listen. it wants to go towards that fucking magnet.
don’t listen. don’t play its stupid game. you already are.
“ we... we need to go. ” micah stammers, his eyes wide -- nervous, when he finally turns them to dj. part of her doesn’t look like she’s fully there, and an answer to his own question starts to dawns on him. why they’re here. “ dj? do you hear me? we have to go. ”
