Thinking about how Chrissy and Eddie could have gotten the Robin treatment™️ and lived, their dynamic with the group would have been so fun
-Nancy teaching her how to shoot, the "I'm dating a weirdo and I love him" conversation
-Awkward band geek/cheerleader friendship with Robin
-Chrissy's walkie talkie name being something like "Barbie" (joke at first, affectionately later)
-Max, the master of dumping, convincing her that Jason ain't shit
-Dustin having a minor lil crush on her bc she's pretty and nice
-Lucas watching out for her like a protective lil brother 🥹 the "Jason is indeed a psycho" conversation
-Steve trying to put in a good word for Eddie, who is *struggling*
-Eddie *denying* any sort of feelings he has, though internally losing it whenever they're paired up
-Them slowly reconnecting throughout the season, like the forest scene x a million. Like we could have had THAT instead of the Nancy/Steve/Jonathan triangle shdjdkskk
-How many times something would scare them in the UD, like who would cling to who first
Their storylines could have ended with them running away together??? I could easily still see the town wanting to blame him, and Chrissy would have used the distraction of the UD and all the panic to leave the toxicity in her home. It also frees up space within the cast so that they don't have to be written into season 5 (since I believe that's what the Suffers were trying to avoid)
I’m learning that my favorite thing about Eddie/Chrissy stories is the adorable relationship that shows up with Chrissy and Dustin. He supports them 100%, gives Eddie shit about being in love with her, and is supper nice to Chrissy, I love it.
Because he would total be like that in the show had there been an opportunity. ☺️
Synopsis: Graduation is in sight and chrissy's relationship with jason is breaking down.
Warnings: drugs, language
Author's note: thanks to everyone who's been reading my blurbs! I now have 100+ notes on each one, which might not sound like much but it's made me really happy!!!! This blurb is just a short one, set before eddie and chrissy were eddie and chrissy. Please feel free to chat with me about your headcanons for them and of course, feedback is always very welcome :)
“So, what exactly is going on with you and Jason?”
Eddie steals a sidelong glance at her as he sits up slightly to ash the joint over the side of the van.
“What do you mean?”
Eddie laughs humorlessly.
“Come on.” He says, incredulous. “The whole school knows you barely even talk any more.”
Chrissy doesn’t know when she stopped buying pot from Eddie Munson and started smoking it with him, and she definitely doesn’t know when their designated hang out time became most nights of the week. Most recently, on the bonnet of his car, in the woods overlooking the lake, watching the stars.
“He’s got things he needs to focus on.” Chrissy says defensively, snaking her hand over to his side to grab the joint. “And I do, too.”
Eddie would be smoking a spliff if he was on his own, but Chrissy prefers joints. She doesn’t like tobacco-taste.
“Like studying for finals, right?”
He’s smiling at her now, only slightly evilly. Chrissy hasn’t caught on to the fact that he’s making fun of her, yet.
“I got a conditional acceptance to S.I.U.” She reminds him. “I need to get a good score in the math retake or I’m screwed.”
“Uh huh.”
“Plus, Jason needs to make sure he gets in on his basketball scholarship, so. Everyone’s counting on him.”
She exhales, deep and a little shaky, smoke mixing with visible breath.
Eddie rolls onto his side.
“Wasn’t it his big game tonight?” He wonders.
“Um, yeah.”
“And you cheered, correct?”
He knows she did. She’s in her cheer uniform right now, pom poms and school bag stashed safely under Eddie’s back seat.
“Yeah?”
“Who won the game?”
She feels a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. She’s figured out what he’s doing.
“The tigers.” She concedes.
“The tigers, that’s right.”
Eddie’s grinning mischievously, teasing her and it makes her whole body feel inexplicably warm. Her stomach is doing flips.
“Well if you know everything, why are you asking me?”
She says it quietly, but she’s laughing now, and he is too. He shrugs, fingers tapping at the car hood.
“I’m just saying, if things were really going well between you and Jason, you would be out celebrating his win. Definitely not hanging out with me getting baked out of your fucking skull.”
He says it in a sing-song tone, snatching the joint right out of her mouth. Her eyes go wide and her cheeks flame.
“Fine.”
He smiles triumphantly, taking a long pull.
“But we’re not broken up, ‘kay?. Just…” She waves her hands at the inky sky, searching for the right words. “Giving each other a little space.”
Eddie hums pleasantly.
“Space. I like the sound of that.”
She fights a giggle.
“And why’s that?”
She already knows the answer.
Eddie flips over onto his belly, chin resting on his hand so he’s hovering above her.
“Well, don’t be too shocked, but I never really liked the guy, so uh.”
She can’t stop herself from grinning, now. Eddie’s talking badly about her boyfriend and she can’t stop grinning.
“Pluuus…” He’s airy, pretending to be casual but there’s a fluttering in his stomach, too. “It kinda means that I get to see a little more of you, so.” He stabs at her stomach with his fingers while he says it and she laughs, face turning red. “It’s a win win situation.”
He blows smoke into her face and she squeals and pushes him off.
He loves her like this. Open. Laying so close to him in the dark, blushing and laughing at every word he says. He could so easily pull her in closer. Grab her. Kiss her. And sometimes, he could let himself believe that she wants it, too. But he’s always careful not to let the conversation lull for too long.
“So, um. Where does Jason think you are tonight?” He implores. He stubs the spent joint out on the van and throws it, settling back down on his belly, head resting on folded arms.
Chrissy shrugs.
“At home, probably.”
“And I'm guessing your parents think you're with him?”
“They think I'm at the party, yeah.”
“Okay, next question.”
She rolls her eyes at his interrogation.
“Does Jason know you smoke now?” Eddie wonders.
“No. No.” She says, tone quickly turning serious. “And you can’t tell him, Eddie. Really. He’d kill me. He really would.”
Eddie half believes her.
“I’m not gonna tell him anything.”
There’s a pause.
“So long as YOU don’t tell anyone I let you smoke my stash for free. It would ruin my rep. Plus, can’t have Rick finding out about that.”
“Why do you?” She wants to know, even though she thinks she already does. Maybe.
“Do what?”
“Let me smoke for free?”
Eddie laughs again, picking at peeling paint on the van instead of meeting her eyes.
“What can I say? I’m a charitable guy.”
—----------
“Have you told your mom and dad about S.I.U yet?”
Despite the fact that he just helped polish off a joint, Eddie’s lighting up a cigarette practically the second they get back in the car, one hand on the wheel as he messes with a zippo. Chrissy frowns at him as she rolls the window down.
“I thought you said no more questions.”
“I never said that.”
She sighs.
“No. And I never told Jason, either.” She says it quickly, anticipating Eddie’s next line of enquiry.
“They’re gonna have to find out sometime.”
“I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.”
It’s quiet as Eddie pulls onto the highway. There aren’t many cars on the roads, but he’s not driving at five times the speed limit for once.
“So, uh. You have a curfew today?” He murmurs, eyes concentrating on rounding the bends in the dark. He jumps slightly when Chrissy gently grabs his wrist, trying to get a look at his watch.
“I have some time.” She says, softly.
“Yeah?”
She nods, swallowing around nothing. The car suddenly feels small.
“You wanna watch a movie or something?”
It’s probably against his better judgement, but it’s out of his mouth now. Plus, she even said it herself: her and Jason were getting space.
“A movie?”
“Yeah.”
He isn’t doing anything wrong. He isn't doing anything-
“I’ll let you pick.”
Fuck.
Too far, Eddie. He thinks. What are you, in love with her?
“You can pick.” She forfeits. “If. You study with me afterwards.”
He huffs a laugh, rolling his eyes.
Pretty girls don’t pay for weed.
He knows it. She definitely knows it.
He looks at her out of the corner of his eye, a smile growing slowly on his lips. They round the corner into the trailer park.
He's nodding his head.
“Deal, Cunningham.”
Her smile back is triumphant - no - radiant, and he's fucked.
chrissy hoisted herself up to sit on the hood of the camaro in one smooth, elegant motion. this was a new habit of hers, one she knew actively pissed billy off and continued to do anyway just to be cheeky.
he didn’t actually mind, just acted like he did. honestly, billy kind of thought it was charming, the way she purposely liked to push buttons in small ways.
not that he was ever gonna tell her that, of course.
fishing for his lighter in his pocket, billy cast his gaze skyward in preparation for the lecture he was about to get, muttering around the joint pinched between his teeth, “jesus christ, here we go.”
“first, i caught you making goo goo eyes at him at tina’s party.” chrissy began listing off her fingers, pointedly ignoring his grumbling and barreling onwards. she poked him in the shoulder with one pristinely painted fingernail when he leaned up next to her on the camaro’s hood, “and don’t you act like i didn’t watch you drool over his ass in those jeans all night, hargrove. because you were not the one who had to listen to you talk about it in detail while i was driving your drunk ass home.” she shuddered, dramatic as ever. “which i still remember, vividly, by the way.”
Since the Duffer brothers have said that they regret killing Chrissy off, I’ve developed a few headcanons about the Upside Down and what could’ve happened to Chrissy if she had been kept alive.
Say they filmed the drug deal scene in the woods in the middle of the shoot rather than the end and they only needed to rewrite a few scenes to integrate Chrissy into the story. The easiest, least invasive way to do that would be to make it so Vecna physically kidnaps his victims before killing them. You can justify it by going the “It” route and say that the trances/visions make for easier, tastier prey. Or that a psychic link is needed with someone in the real world in order to open a portal, and it’s easier to form a psychic link with those who are crying out for help mentally. (That also goes with the mental health theme we’ve seen this season. Sometimes when you’re looking for help mentally, you find it in the wrong place. Or you develop destructive behaviors or relationships.)
We still get the scene with Eddie and Chrissy in the trailer. She’s still in a trance, still levitates, etc. The only difference is that instead of her bones snapping, a portal opens to the Upside Down and she gets sucked through. The crack is still there. There’s still unrest in the town because she’s missing, and Eddie is still a prime suspect due to Max seeing them together.
Chrissy somehow flees Vecna before he can kill her. Maybe Eddie’s screams rally her. Maybe he had put on a Corroded Coffin cassette just before the trance and the music rallies her (brb gonna write fic about that). She hides wherever she can. Maybe in the woods where she met up with Eddie. She then meets up with the older members of the gang on the way to Nancy’s house after their lake-diving-bat-smashing adventure. She’s weak, but alive. (Give me a sec to imagine the reunion between Eddie and Chrissy…)
At Nancy’s house, Chrissy is easily able to put two and two together about the portals existing where the victims are abducted and therefore there should be one in Eddie’s trailer. (DON’T get me started on how long it actually took the gang to figure that one out.) And then the rest of the story proceeds as normal.
Bonus self-indulgent headcanon: the Upside Down is toxic, despite all these people running around down there without proper protection. It’s just a matter of exposure. Chrissy’s lungs are fried from days of running around down there (if you’re gonna come at me and say, “Will was down there for days, too!” I’m gonna 1. remind you that he was on Upside Down life support for some time and 2. make up some shit that Chrissy was closer to the center of the Upside Down where the bad stuff is more concentrated). Maybe she’s so weak that she’s barely conscious by the time they get to Eddie’s trailer. Maybe she has to be helped/carried through the portal by Eddie. MAYBE she has to be taken to the hospital and we get a scene of Eddie sitting by her bed, terrified to lose her. MAYBE her parents burst in and start cornering Eddie, insulting and accusing him. MAYBE this continues until a soft voice from the bed rasps out, “He found me. He brought me back.” And we get a view of GOBSMACKED Eddie and we know everything is gonna be okay.
very fun "gifted kid mood" is when you keep acing all of your exams despite never studying, so even when you know you actually have to study on some level you can't accept that you're capable of failure so you can't motivate yourself to start studying and trying to learn everything last minute doesn't work this time so you screw up and fail and now your entire self image is false and even though you know you will have another chance and it's illogical to be giving up you don't have the will to do anything anymore because you know you're a failure and everything you ever believed about yourself is false and you will be a failure forever and you know this but you can't truly accept this and keep trying to convince yourself it didn't happen but you truly fucked everything up and fucked up your life even though this is not true your standards are too high you will have another chance but you fucked everything up and you had every chance to do it differently but you didn't you were too lazy too stupid and your worst fear came true you failed you failed yourself and everyone who ever complimented you or said anything positive about you you failed you failed just like you knew you eventually would just like you were never supposed to
OBSESSED with how the squad in stranger things finally became genre-aware. soon as ANY shit happens they’re like “yep it’s the FUCKING monsters again” and gather the gang together as best they can. like murders started happening and it could’ve just been normal murders but they were like “no. it’s the mind flayer” and they were right. then they’re like “yea we got guns in our bedrooms and flashlights we can pull out of thin air, the lights are flashing everyone start translating morse code, don’t worry eddie this’ll be over in like three days tops” like this is literally so funny and so welcome after three seasons of fucking around they’re finally DONE
