I still feel bitter how people think "this woman unquestionably rabidly hates men" is less of a problem than "this woman doesn't think a paraphilia is a scary mental health condition that needs medical intervention".

I think "you can be anything you want" as a phrase has limited utility when it comes to freedom of identity.

I have said it to others myself multiple times, but ending up on the receiving end of something like that several months ago made me think deeper.

Putting what I want aside, I'd have to live with the social implications of adopting a certain identity publicly (and I kinda suck at doing these things privately, because everything I believe to be true about myself I immediately apply in social analysis somehow). I'd have to go out and say "I am this and this" and deal with the majority of the relevant community saying "no, you're not".

Sometimes when people ask "can I be this if so and so", they're not asking for a blanket permission, they're asking for some kind of reasoning that would clarity their situation and allow them to refer to a known precedent.

A popular anti Trump gimmick account insists on using they/them pronouns for him and presenting known transphobic anti pronoun/anti gender identity rhetoric as "being agender".

This isn't some new info since I already complained about that, nor it's a callout post, since everyone who follows that account can see it anyway.

I'm just pissed off that this is an ongoing issue. No, it's not funny to equate nonbinary people to transphobic agenda. No, they/them pronouns aren't "not having pronouns".

You can't fight transphobia with more transphobia.

it's not that I don't think "do it scared" can ever be a positive phrase, like if it's something like. "Oh, I'm scared to go to this party" but the "scared" is. nervous about the uncertainty of something, like not knowing people and things like that. That can be good.

Like, you don't have to wait for the ideal time to start doing things that could make your life better

but "ignore the fear and just do it anyway" is such an unstoppable and inescapable message, but on a basic level it is not true that fear automatically goes away when you expose yourself to the feared thing. Fear goes away when you expose yourself to the feared thing by your own choice and free will (not forced, coerced, or out of resignation because it seems like the only option), and when the experience feels safe enough that it can be a positive or at least neutral experience and help heal the fear.

people are very attracted to the idea that others have problems because they are not strong enough or too weak-willed or sensitive. Many people seem to like to believe that everyone's problems come from unwillingness to "do the hard thing."

As someone who viciously hated herself from very early childhood for being not strong enough, too weak-willed, and too sensitive, I have found that the method of doing things in spite of their "hardness" through sheer stubbornness and pain tolerance only created minimal progress.

"Pushing through" is useful in some circumstances, but using it as a primary tool for facing challenges results in expending enormous energy and difficulty for very slow results.

Examining why the thing is hard, and coming up with ways to make it easier, will take you six steps forward for every single step you take by "pushing through" without self-understanding.

Having a negative feeling in response to something other people do with their lives is a regular common behavior, and it's fine. If you don't make it their problem, you're not doing anything wrong.

parents are allowed to straight-up torture their kids with zero consequences. they can withhold food and water, lock you out of shelter, confiscate your belongings, bar you from human contact, attack and harm you and exert complete control over your physical appearance. and this is just the norm. if you speak out against it you're seen as a delinquent or a predator. even otherwise progressive people get uncomfortable with the idea of dismantling the nuclear family unit because they still see it as the best way to keep kids safe when that simply couldn't be further from the truth. it's evil.

The idea that anti narcissism stigma comes from the myth of Narcissus, and that, if NPD wasn't called that way, it would have been received better, is one of the most baffling for me.

If you read the myth of Narcissus, it's actually quite tragic. He was cursed for turning down people who pursued him, and he died to this curse (in some versions, because he kills himself). Literally, the worst thing he's ever done to another person was say "no". His condition hurt him much more than he's ever hurt anyone. The public perception of this myth varied historically, because some people DID think he was in the wrong, but it still stayed mostly on point for a long time, and you can find resources from 100 years ago that use the word "narcissism" to refer to autophilia.

And if you look at contemporary anti NPD stigma, it's about how narcissists are domestic abusers.

Naming didn't create the stigma, the stigma changed the meaning of the name.

I need y’all to realize that it’s on there because of their anti censorship policies, not because they’re unable to to monitor. It comes up at the top of the page when you search “Jews”. You don’t have to look hard for it.

i should not have to say this but this is obviously dangerous and hateful content that could lead to radicalization.

Compare this to rateyourmusic, a website I have been using regularly for years. They are also very anti-censorship and include Nazi material on the site as it is meant to be an encyclopedia of all the music of all time. However, they put warnings on any page that contains Nazi material with a disclaimer that the site does not support that content and that it’s simply there for their mission of cataloging music. RYM also is made up of user input. If a user uploads something that isn’t tagged properly as containing Nazi material, their upload will be rejected. Other users vote on whether a submission is adequate.
