Yes, they do count in the United States; they are unsecured debt. You get a ding from the hard pull, and the age, payment history, and utilization % work just like normal credit cards.

Their only real "benefit" is they tend to be easier to get approved for, which is handy when you're building/re-building credit (hi, I nuked my credit back in 2007 into the 300s and over a decade later finally climbed back to 800+).

OP is talking about store-branded credit cards. Airlines, major stores, and some other corporations and entities also offer branded credit cards that work just like other credit cards (and in fact are managed by major credit card companies) but are affiliated with the company. For example, if you have an Alaska Airlines credit card, that is a regular Visa credit card, but instead of normal "cash back" rewards, spending with the card earns you rewards related to the company--in this case, airline miles, checked bag credits, and even lower "companion fares" that can be cashed in with that airline specifically.

No comment on whether these cards are advisable. I'm not a financial expert.

Both can lead to irresponsible purchasing, even if you think you know exactly what you are getting into. If debt and budgeting are confusing to you, a financial literacy course is a great thing to take.
