A Tale of Two Disappearing Acts

Hoo boy. OK my spelunking skills are extremely rusty SO if you spot any errors, feel free to bully me over it.

NOW. do we all remember the back-to-back fashion weeks in late Feb to early March?

Here's a visual recap, if not:

XZ Milan show 27 Feb. WYB Paris show 6, 8 10 Mar.

There were many many rumours flying around at the time that one of them was following the other across Europe etc etc. but Y13 and I didn't take them too seriously. we WANTED to suspect something when WYB started posting all those cute little comic + captions with his photos, but then XZ's itinerary disuaded us of that, he was most definitely in Beijing around the time those were posted.

AND THEN recently, I came across this word of mouth thing from a Chinese turtle (that should always always always be taken with a few tablespoons of salt!!): A DD non-toxic solo fan claimed that she (via her deep connections) saw the two of them together in a hotel in Paris. Specifically on 13 & 14 March. which then brought our attention back to those few weeks. hur hur... i'll lay out their itineraries in detail here and leave you to decide, with a bonus at the end.

Disappearing Act #1

Here's XZ's itinerary from 24 Feb to 3 Mar

Just note the Weibo post for now. Literally translated, it means "accompanied by elegance, embarking on a journey with style", along with pictures of him looking swanky Gucci at a prop airport pre-departure. All very normal.

OK, so what was WYB doing at this time?

So this guy, on the 24th, posted OK EVERYBODY, back to work! (trans: the noble steed leaps, auspicious day for starting work, buck up your spirit!) and then freaking disappears for nine days. no trace, no pics. YBO was still posting stuff, and there was a court case thing against defamers. but no trace of where his actual person actually is.

Now, that in itself isn't odd, he likes to disappear. the odd thing was that the most meticulous Chinese turtle cataloguer that i know of, for some reason, kept insisting that WYB had already flown to Paris on 24 Feb. She even said she knew which flight it was, but had no pictures or vids to prove this, but was adamant. And also halfway through WYB's disappearance, Chinese turtles started reinterpreting XZ's cryptic message "格调启程" (Ge-Diao Qi Cheng) = GD = "Ge-Di" as in GG and DD together embarking on a journey. i.e. WYB tagged along. WELL! the opportunity was certainly there! no clashes detected here!

WYB then popped up on 5 Mar already in Paris for his show. along with all these super cute comic style captions!

Gar....They could totally plausibly be drawn by XZ, and XZ wasn't especially busy around that time, and we know he likes doodling on his iPad, AND they're completely in his style! So yes, in my mind, it could all be XZ having a lot of fun.

Anyway, 5-11 Mar chugged along merrily. WYB did his three shows (6 Mar Loewe, 8 Mar Lacoste, 10 Mar Chanel), looking pretty as always. XZ was in Beijing getting his makeup confirmed for his new drama (5 Mar), then attending an award ceremony in Shanghai (9 Mar), and was filmed flying from Shanghai to Beijing (11 Mar). WYB posted a super emo compilation of photos on Insta, along with "I walk this earth alone" as BGM, obviously emo and pining.

Disappearing Act #2

THEN, from 12 Mar to 16 Mar, they BOTH freaking disappear! no photos etc.

This actually fits in very well with what the DD solo fan claimed, that she was able to stay in the same hotel as WYB due to her connections, and then on 13 Mar, security was upped in the hotel, and then she ran into the two of them together. on 14 Mar, she asked the staff, and they confirmed that both were still there in the hotel.

Well, all I can say is, the itineraries do allow the opportunity for XZ to fly back to Europe and be with WYB for another 3-4 days.

And the bonus I promised? and I really can't believe it didn't register when it happened at the time.

On 16 Mar, wyb flew back from Switzerland.

I have a massive fic rec post that's been in my drafts for probably years by now that has a few dozen or more recs on it (mostly WangXian), but I never seem to find time to finish writing it. Whenever I finish a new story it gets added to the list so the task gets more daunting. 😅

It's always at the back of my mind to get that post published, but I have so many other drafts that are a higher priority for me. I'll get to it when I get to it. 🙃

Fall on me like night by anaphoricae - Vampire WWX has developed a strong taste for a particular blood donor's blood. Well-written, angsty and sweet. I usually don't like bottomji (not because of the sex position, but because I hate how LWJ always gets characterized), but this one was good.

Cut him out in little stars by ChaoticAndrogynous - Incredibly creative, unique, angsty story where Wei Ying dies and comes back as a comet. Highly recommended.

but as i binge read everything in your blog and as to others, i wanna ask that compare to the other necklaces (ox-head, lion head or other necklaces) of DD, is the bone necklace is more consistent in appearing of DD’s wearing it compare to the other necklaces all these years?

i’m just curious because i saw some pics in ETU where DD still wearing. and i am also shook that the necklace has been with him since November 2020 based on the first sightseeing of DD wearing it.

First I want to say, there really are no dumb questions (even if I do sometimes react to questions a bit like there are - I'm human, and there are certain things that get under my skin). Asking a question is - by its very nature - demonstrating a thirst for knowledge. Nothing dumb about that.

The bone necklace has been consistently worn by DD since 2020, that's true, and it's rarely left his neck (mainly for photo shoots and events where he's expected to wear specific brand items).

He wore it throughout ETU when he was rock climbing, diving, etc. etc.

Prior to that he wore the gucci ox head necklace. You can find more of my past posts about the ox necklace under my 'ox necklace baby' tag (and the bone under my 'puppy has his 🦴' tag).

For various reasons it was strongly believed to be a gift from GG.

GG endorsed Gucci at that time, and that particular model of necklace wasn't broadly available when DD started wearing it.

GG was very upset and took a proprietary interest when DD injured himself with it during a filming of Happy Camp, and scolded DD and told him to take it off (and DD obeyed!)

DD wore it relentlessly, like it held deep meaning for him, even when solos started freaking out and demanding that he stop (because they hated the widespread turtle CPN about it, and the fact that it was a brand endorsed by GG - who they bitterly hate).

DD was seen wearing it over a hundred times in 2019 (which is insane considering that he was first seen with it on the 19th of June, when the year was halfway over), and just as frequently in 2020.

Like the bone with ETU, DD even wore the ox in 'extreme' situations, such as when he was in the ocean surfing during the filming of Summer Surf Shop in 2020. This is one of the examples that shows just how important it was to him.

As I said, solos started raising a huge stink about it, and DD started wearing it under his shirt a lot, but it could still be seen because it had a distinctive chain.

Ox, bone.

Much like the bone, turtles could easily identify it anyway. In spite of the controversy, DD wore it very openly during the filming of SDOC that year, at one point even wearing it as a bracelet.

In terms of what came before the ox necklace, it would be DD's Nike bag, which is also widely believed to be a gift from GG. I have a detailed post about that here.

The lion head necklace appeared around the same time as the bone. It wasn't worn as much, and disappeared entirely after his motorcycle crash in 2020. You can read more about that here and here.

what do you mean the first quarter of the year is now coming to a close? that felt so fast. but as usual, this fandom — bjyx, never fails to deliver the goods. i wasn’t expecting much from this month but here we are. it was sweeter than expected. 🍭

• GG had an interview post GUCCI show and we noticed that he mentioned how he likes to eat gongcai vegetable. something they both like. also how he says spending time with “family” which we interpret as including yibo. very minor thing that is noticed by clowns only lol.

• the “goodnight” for posts made abroad. i mean. out of all the “messages” why goodnight? when they know how much we all cpn that. some are also pointing out the small drawings in every photo ( very gg coded if you ask me ). 📷 also how GG was eating an apple, and WYB was eating a cookie. i mean. why is it always them???

• WYB posting on IG at 00:23. kadian is not really that relevant to IG compared to Weibo, but it’s still there.

• the fact that now, they both have their own names in Weibo and other social media handles in China. it feels like a new beginning for them in terms of freedom in their career! && as a fan, i will be there to support them as long as they can. it feels so good to see this independence! they deserve it so much 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

cpn aside, i love seeing them getting this kind of “success”. knowing all the struggles they have been through and the xz and wyb back then to now, it’s such a huge difference. i always hope that they are safe and happy.

• there are conversations about this new 85 racing brand at the end of videos. i’m sure we can all tie it to XZ somehow, and if it’s true, it come up again and again. but i like seeing them do this. i don’t go and follow other artists, i’m sure they have some kind of branding in their videos — but i don’t think they have one like XZ and WYB. where they use different ones for different facets of their career.
