I’ve been gone a long time due to personal reasons and all the craziness in my state due to COVID19. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Jitae smiled. He knew the other had talent. He just didn’t know how to work his talent the right way. “I’ll let you work with some of my best writers. You’ll get to learn alot so do take your time to learn. When the time comes you will be an artist under the label.

Brian nodded, his heart already pounding just at the idea of getting to work his way up under the label. Jitae saw something in him. Unrefined, maybe, but that had to count for something. He gave another bow, letting out a breath as he came up, some of the tension easing out of his shoulders. “Thank you so much for this chance. I won’t disappoint you!”

“this however doesn’t mean anything right now. You’ll be signed to the company but you will need time to practice and work on your music before I sign you as an artist….you with me?” Jitae asked. He wanted to make sure the other knew what exactly he was getting himself into. “You’re a diamond in disguise I think, if given the right tools, you will be really good…that’s what I think and believe…that is why I am giving you a chance, so don’t let me down, kid”

Brian realized he had gotten ahead of himself. Being signed under the label didn’t mean he was going to debut as an artist right away. Still, Jitae saw something in him that was worth signing on, something worth polishing and taking a chance. Even if it would be a while before he could get any tracks out, he knew there was so much he could learn.

He nodded, trying to contain his smile from growing too large. “I understand. And I’ll keep working on my music.” He gave another bow, so thankful for this chance. “I am really looking forward to working with you and the company.”

“Guess we will have to,” she replied, grinning, then nodded her head. “As a firefighter my uniform that I wear pretty much all day unless I need to put on the gear is this navy blue outfit. All blue. Navy button down and navy pants with my black shoes. Even my own nonwork clothes are getting a little bland.”

"A firefighter?" she repeated, a look of surprise on her face. "That's incredible. I don't think I've ever met anyone who was a firefighter." She nodded her head thoughtfully. "Well, you can always add accessories and maybe a few new pieces to your wardrobe." She eyed the other woman, tilting her head. "I think there are lots of looks you could pull off."

Yes, there it was. Jitae grinned and looked at the other as he sang. Damn he was good. He just needed some guidance and more experience to find himself. He raised his hand to have him stop playing and leaned over the table to look at the notes he had written down. “Alright. Here’s the deal, Brian” Jitae started. “You’re good. You have something. It’s rough and not worked on, but I’m willing to give you a try. Sign you to my label and have you practice and work on your music with some of my collegues and artists” He explained. “You up for it?”

Brian felt like his breath was caught in his throat, heart hammering as he waited for what Jitae had to say. He had already been given multiple chances and if he couldn’t deliver on this last one, he could kiss any chance of signing on with this label goodbye.

He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. This was something he had been wanting and working towards for years. Brian wanted to pinch himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming, that he was actually here and someone who had climbed quickly through the business wanted to take a chance on him.

“I... yes!” he said immediately. “I-- wow-- I’m--” He was stumbling over his words, giving a deep bow. “Thank you so much for this chance. I swear, I’ll work hard. I’ll do whatever it takes.” Brian sucked in a breath, blinking back the tears welling up in his eyes. He made it. He really, really made it.

“That sucks big time. Red color foods and drink I try to avoid because they always stain things,” Ellie said as she wrinkled up her nose. “But, accidents do happen unfortunately.” She offered a reassuring smile. “Uh, I may know one of two, but I don’t shop that much since I wear a uniform,” she said with a small pout. “We should explore together.”

"Maybe we’ll have white wine next time,” she laughed softly. Kana perked up at the suggestion. She still didn’t have many friends and it would be nice to go with someone who knew the area at least a little better than she did. “I’d love to. ...A uniform? What kind of uniform?”

Jitae listened. He had his eyes closed and he bobbed his head to the beat of the song with his pencil bouncing along in his hand before he raised it. “Stop” he said firmly and looked at Brian. “I see it….I do….But there’s something lacking…” he fell silent. Jitae was more into the hip hop genre than anything else but he had a good ear for music overall. 

“What if you play a cover song” He asked. “Could you do that on the spot?” he asked curiously. He was giving Brian alot of time to shine but there was something there and he could sense it by now. But still he needed that extra thing.

Brian felt his heart sink when he was asked to stop again. He didn’t know what Jitae wanted from him. The notes sounded fine in his ears but maybe there was something missing, something that would make him stand out from all the other buskers lining the streets of Hongdae in hopes of getting noticed. He felt slightly less discouraged that Jitae felt like he had something in him. Brian just didn’t know how to make that side of him come forth.

“A cover?” he repeated, adjusting the strap of his guitar. He hadn’t planned on playing covers but if a cover meant he had another shot, he was going to take it. “Yeah, I can do a cover.” Brian rolled his shoulders back and took another breath before strumming his fingers against the taut strings. They do say third time is the charm. But they also say three strikes and you’re out.
