The x men are a soap opera to me
The X men are notorious for the Scott Logan jean triangle but i have many thoughts on it. In the og comics of the love triangle to today Logan acts like a straight up pred to jean at times. I don't think its inherently wrong for the writers to do this tho I hate when hes rewarded for it. I think its an interesting way to look at wolverine hes a soldier just the same as cyclops it highlights how similar and different the two are. .He was put there to butt heads with cyclops. They are two lifelong soldiers who are VERY out of touch with their emotions they either explicitly or explicitly gravitate to jean because she as a psychic can understand them without them needing to be verbal. Cyclops was a child soldier who was effectively drafted into a war for his rights after watching his family die and getting physically disabled in the same incident.He learned to bottle things up to be the teams pillar. Cyclops is physically disabled in what the mutants around him regard as the thing that makes them who they are. A foundational trait this weighs on him deeply. The thing that everyone around him cherishes is easily what could kill everyone around him. Wolverine is a soldier that only feels fully himself in a war. He hops place to place leaving blood shed but he doesn't want this at the end of the day.The very title of wolverine is an animal no one knows about in detail its a small violent and territorial thing. Wolverine and Cyclops are effectively the same guy different time periods they mirror each other this is intentional Cyclops could easily become wolverine if he lived a few 100 years. While jean is everything they think they need shes psychic and self confident shes got her shit together seemingly she knows how to handle herself and others.This is actually super interesting because normally this is a role done by men traditionally in story telling but its so distinctly feminine for her and the relationship shes in a position that's not distinctly mothering them. the problem is when shes reduced to just this what she can do for these boys. I think the Phoenix arc did a lot to remove her from being only a platform for them to being her own woman she has her own problems But neither Wolvie or Scott moved. I think Scott's relationship with Emma was a good choice to further him it let him grow and stop depending on jean it let him be messy. I think wolverine needs someone like that which is why i love him being with morph. Morph is introduced as tho briefly a very cheery guy who is close to Wolverine they are close friends. Morph brings out a softness in Wolverine that he goes out of his way to show despite hes been scorned to many times. Morph is a good influence on wolverine they understand him but don't enable his worst in my eyes. So morph becomes the new place where he can stop being wolverine he can be Logan can shed his worst and be a person again with dies not just in front of but for him. Despite he can heal dies to help wolverine in front of him he looses his shit regressing back to wolverine.But what we don't see is Scott's reaction which i HATE. I think this would devastate Scott a friend of his died on his watch on his shoulders is a another life he has morally failed. The point is neither are right Morph decided to die there to help the team. Morph afterwords pre sinister influence comments on how they miss the team they want to come home they aren't angry on their own it takes sinister making them worse. Morph over time through sinister becomes a soldier for an opposition they show wolverine they're angry but wolverine stays that soft side of himself even if morph hates him he still wants to be Logan around them. In time wolverine wins morph back over they go to Muir and get help and come back better. in my minds eye i think both Scott and Logan look at morph in different levels of jealousy. Because like them morph was forced into being a soldier but unlike them morph takes responsibility for themself and gets help morph proves you don't need to be a soldier 24 7 to have worth..
