Rapunzel laughed harder at the boy’s reply. “Oh, I really think I do.” 

Rapunzel instantly felt bad for scaring the animal. “Sorry!” She said, bringing down her energy level. “She’s really cute. What her name? And, and yours. What’s your name?”

“Don’t be sorry, dear. She just has to get to know ya, really. She’s a little untrusting.” He explained calmly as those big eyes of the pig stared up at Rapunzel. She was indeed curious but not yet knowing about this new girl. “Hen Wen. Her names Hen-Wen. Mine’s Taran. Nice to meet ya. Are you new here? I just got here two months ago myself.”

The boy’s accent took Rapunzel for surprise. In fact, she took a moment to even process what he had said to her because she was busy wondering where he was from. “Oh,” she replied, looking back over her shoulder at the large image she had created. “It’s really nothing.” She blushed lightly and looked away, a bit embarassed. “Thank you.” She added. She felt so awkward and wondered if he noticed. “I’d love to see your, uhm, Liger.” Rapunzel said with a giggle. It was then that she noticed the adorable pig accompanying the boy. “Hello!” She said towards the creature, suddenly full of energy.

A loud snort before a small laugh left Taran at his words about the Liger. “Nah... you really don’t. It’s terrible really, it will burn ya eyes right out of ya skull.” He had to admit softly before eyes wandered down to Hen Wen. Hen Wen.... wasn’t too keen on the sudden burst of energy that came from the girl. A small squeal and she charged to hide behind Taran. Taran just blinked before looking down at the small pig. “Ah. I’m sorry. She gets scared easily.”

Rapunzel’s hair fell lazily in waves as she sat on the concrete finishing up her masterpiece. The sun felt hot on her pale skin, but it was a feeling she was unused to and welcoming of. Her hands were covered in a dusty purple powder, but she seemingly couldn’t care less. This was her first time ever using sidewalk chalk, after all. 

She had created quite the drawing, and many tourists had stopped to take pictures and chat with the blonde artist. It turns out that having a history of painting transfered into chalk art skills fairly easily. In just over an hour she had drawn a giant realistic sunset scene complete with pastel pink and purple clouds.  

Rapunzel took a break from her scribbling to look up, and noticed someone standing beside her. “Oh!” She said, jumping. She was still getting used to contact with strangers others. “Sorry,” she said, embarassed. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “Do you, uhm, do you live here?” She asked, unsure if that was the right thing to say. 

Okay, so he had promised Hen Wen a nice walk in the park. She loved to run around and chase butterflies in the Summer. And who was Taran to deny her such joy? She was a pig after all. So when he finally got his ass off the couch; after a whiny Hen Wen which was just annoying squealing; he finally dragged himself out in the real world. Where one had to be an adult. He wanted to vomit at that. BUT he mind was taken back when he walked outside the front doors of his apartment complex to see a blonde girl drawing-- rather beautifully; he might add-- onto the street.

He had to stop and stare for a moment. She reminded him of a long lost memory and an old heartache.  The way the light shone on golden hair and beauty in art that hands created. He didn’t mean to startle her. In fact; her sudden jumping up kinda startled the red-haired male. “Oh no! I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to startle ya.” A Welsh accent rolled off his tongue. “I do live here but-- I’m no art expert but this is incredible. All I can draw is stick figures and Ligers....” Ligers were badass. A mixture between a tiger and a lion-- bred for its skill with magic.

Swynlake had proven to be just as quiet as Jessie had hoped. She’d been in town for almost a month now, but she’d tried to keep her head down a bit. The way things had been left in the States were… a potential problem that she had to still be mindful of. Telling the wrong person who she was or where she was from could be bad.

But that wouldn’t happen, ‘cause Loveland, Oklahoma was as good as a million miles away and Jess was safe here. Definitely.

The town was more sprawled out than she could have imagined, though, and she’d gotten a little turned around a time or two. And this… this might’a been one’a those times.

She was sure that she’d been headed toward the police station (she was hoping to get a job there, maybe, if she could ever find the blasted place), but she honestly couldn’t make head nor tail of these streets. Luckily, she wasn’t too shy to ask for help.

“Uh, ‘scuse me? I think I might need some directions, I’m sort’a new here and ev’rything starts to look the same after a while.”

He was on his way home, Chinese takeout in hand with his trusty pig-in-crime by his side. Hen Wen could practically smell the delicious aromas and she was snorting happily with each step closer to home. Taran glanced down at his animal friend. “Me too, Hen Wen. I’m starving. Work went on way too long for me today.” The Welsh accent rolling off his tongue. Tugging the bag up close to his body, Hen Wen getting a little ahead of herself and trying to dig in the bag; he noticed a woman that looked--- a little too lost. 

Ah, Taran had been there himself not but two months ago. What really took him by surprise; was the accent that rolled off her tongue. He had never heard it before, clearly not from this part of the world. “Ah...” The red-haired boy stared at her in interest. “I could probably help ya... I’m still getting used to this place myself. Where are ya trying to go?”

Taran was sitting on a bench, staring down at a thick script in his hands. He didn’t think he would be cast. He wasn’t gonna lie, he was just kinda making fun having fun. He didn’t know he was a good singer-- he was never told he had a good set of vocals on him... well-- only when he was screaming at someone. “I can’t believe... I got cast.... and I’m... Jack? I-- I don’t think I can even dance... is there dancing to this? I might fall and break something.” He was mainly talking to himself but it was loud enough that someone could overhear him. “Can I even act? Does Jack have cool scenes? Do I get to murder something?” A few flips into the script. “No... I’m literally just... selling a cow and missing that cow? At least I get to mess with a giant.... and... get my mother killed... Huh...” He looked down to see Hen Wen side-eyeing him. “Don’t give me that look.”

”yeah... her names Hen Wen.” he continued to stroke her gently from outside his shirt. She was calming quickly. ”Nah... she’s just scared is all. And she gets distracted easily it seems. Then again, she is a pig.” a small laugh came from him at his own words. ”I don’t think I’ve offically met you. I’ve only seen you around the stables.”

he found his arms were shaking, shaking Hen Wen with them. He thought Swynlake was safe... finally a place where they could stop running. He knew what he was and he could only guess what he could do.... but he had promised Alun to keep her safe. ”I-I can’t...” And as if fate threw a middle finger up to Taran, Hen Wen squealed and went into one of her fits. Oh no. Oh no. He tried to hold her tight in his arms as she tensed up, eyes wide. Magic rose from her body and he could hear her speak to him. ”Taran...” he froze as he watched her. And just as quickly as the fit had come, it vanished. She was exhausted; tired. Taran sighed. ”Oh Hen Wen.... what did you see?” he whispered to her, in hopes that the sorcerer did not hear him.

”Even though my flat is a shithole and my dog eats all my food, I’m surprised I’m making it on my own. This place is nice and the people are friendly... well some of them but I guess ya get unfriendly people everywhere.” Taran mused as he looked at Phoebus, Hen Wen still nestled in his arms. Even though Taran was a bastard babe of a Witch and a noble non magic; he didn’t know any of that. Nor did he know that magic lay dormant in his very veins. Magic that would never surface thanks to Alun’s own magic. He wanted Taran to live a normal life and yet here he was; on the run because of a future seeing pig. Normal would never be him. Taran stared at the older male for a while. ”Soooooo.... do you have magic?” Taran couldn’t sense any magic flowing through the officer... but you could never be certain these days. Some people had ways of masking their aura.

He shook his head slightly, willing away the urge to reach up and pinch the bridge of his nose. The headache was probably not going to go away until he was out of range of the stupidity before him. Arawn squinted at the boy, unimpressed with whatever act this was supposed to be. 

“Enough,” he snapped, “’I’ve no need to listen to you point out the obvious or to get into a squabble with…,” he gestured to the boy’s person, “whatever it is you are.”

He pointed to the pig then, “How did you come by one with that much magic?”

His brows furrowed together as the man motioned to his person. What did he mean, whatever he was? He was just a normal boy. But when he pointed to Hen Wen; Taran’s body tensed and he took a step away from Arawn. “I-I don’t know what you are talking about.”

He raised an eyebrow at all the questioning. Inquisitive thing. Not that Phoebus wasn’t. He just did it more subtly. 

Do I sound like I’m from France? he wanted to deadpan, but refrained. He was a police office, after all. He had to set a good example. 

So, instead, he just smiled a little. “You’re welcome. And no, I’m not French. I am Dutch. My family came from France, though. Too long ago to have survived in anything but name.” He shrugged. 

“Where did you come from? Any reason you chose Swynlake, I’ve found that people usually have curious reasons for moving to magical towns.” 

“Dutch? I’ve met some Dutch peeps, nice people.” He mused softly, petting the head of Hen Wen softly. “I came from Wales, Born and raised.... I had to come here. I heard this place was a safe haven for magical beings....” That’s al he was willing to say, holding Hen Wen closer. “It... wasn’t safe for me in Wales anymore....”

the look of disgust was returned in the direction of the other male. He was gonna judge him on his choice of pets with hair like that? At least Taran knew style and looked like he bathed. The words caused a loud scoff to come from the boy. Maybe it was an insult? Yet he had now ill will towards holders of magic. After all, his caretaker was one of great power; the protector of Wale’s Great Forest. ”I’ve never met a Dewin such as you.... he didn’t mention what he meant, that he meant one that held a dark aura; almost corrupted and suffocating. ”I can say the same as you... You are Welsh as well? Your accent gives you away...”

”De Martin. Sounds French.... you from France or something?” he stared up at the cop before a small scoff came from him, shaking his hand hesitantly. ”your first case? Did ya just move here? I just got here a week or two ago.” yet he already had a reputation as the weird pig kid. He paused for a long while before looking down to the ground. ”Thank you for helping me find her though...”

the boy looked over at the older male. Hen Wen doing the same, curiosity over taking her. This guy seemed familiar to the small pig. Probably from the stables that Taran always seemed to be at, talking and caring with the horses. The red haired boy pursed his lips inward for a moment. ”I never said it.

”I’m Taran... Taran Dallben...” he mumbled softly as he stroked Hen Wen’s head before shaking his own head. Why would this guy want to know who he was? He was a nobody. An orphaned nobody.

He had felt the eyes on him since further down the road, it had made him uneasy-Paraniod. And now the reason for the paranoia was in front of him. And he tended as the male spoke to him. He eyed him up and down. He could sense a powerful and dark aura radiating off the other. Taran’s eyebrows knitted together as he shifted from one foot to the other; clearing his throat. He could practically sense the magic coming from him. And he knew magic when he sensed it. He had lived in an enchanted Forest after all. ”or did you take her?” he tensed as his eyes narrowed at him slowly. He swallowed thickly as he followed to male. He heard a soft squeal from her, taking off past the male and to her. She was frightened and hiding behind a trash can. When she saw Taran, she went to him before he held her close. Yet she seemed frightened of the newcomer. ”she’s frightened of you, Sorcerer...”
