I don’t post this sort of thing typically but I figured it couldn’t hurt and my friend needs help. My friend’s name is Mark. I’ve known Mark now for about six years. He helped interview me at the first animal hospital that I worked at & we’ve been close ever since. He always says “one love!” at the end of his texts/emails, makes me smile every time. Did I mention Mark is a big ol’ hippie? No, really! A tie-dye wearing, croc & Grateful Dead loving hippie and we love him for it. Anyway, Mark saw my potential from early on & he was always in my corner fighting for me no matter what. That’s just the kind of guy that Mark is. I used to joke with him & say he was like the super involved dad I never had. We’d always just laugh it off like it was nothing. Little did he know, he really has been like a father figure to me over the years. He was always supportive no matter what. Always a beam of positivity, always kind, always loved by everyone. Last year, Mark was diagnosed with diabetes & then shortly after, he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. In August, he will be undergoing his 4th surgical procedure since April of this year. Four. Surgeries. In four months. Last year after his diagnosis, he had to take some time off of work as he’d spent a few weeks hospitalized & then at home recovering. I can’t begin to imagine the type of emotional, physical, & financial difficulties that Mark & his family are enduring right now. Mark has always been the type to put a smile on no matter what, his light would never dim. Since his diagnosis, this has changed some. He’s tired a lot, can’t walk for too long without getting winded. He’s really struggling & it’s something that he can’t fake a smile for anymore. He’s not the type to really ask for help as he’s super independent & prideful. Nothing wrong with that - seeing that he can fill an arena with all the people who love & care for him & who want to help him in anyway they can. That’s what I’m doing here.
