I've started a fic about Liliana Vess, about her time at Strixhaven before the events of Strixhaven: School of Mages! Idk what the schedule will be for it or what its really going to include, I just think that Liliana is a really interesting character and hasn't really had the chance to be properly explored of a while, so I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring. It explores Liliana's relationships on the plane of Arcavios (namely Embrose (HER EX-LOVER in this fic) and Killian (HER SON IN THIS FIC) as well as her conflicted emotions after her actions and the events after war of the spark, but we'll get to all of that in a few more chapters.

If it sounds interesting or you just want more of Liliana and mtg story stuff, give it a look, you might like it. idk what else to say, I havent really done something like this before and its all very exciting.

it's time to make my annual propaganda post about my theory that Liliana Vess is secretly Killian Lu's mom.

this explains why Liliana has a framed portrait of Killian's dad in her office:

and it makes her extremely suspicious interaction with Killian and Embrose in "A Radiant Heart" make a lot more sense.

in "The Chains That Bind", Killian says his mom died when he was a baby, and he doesn't remember her. but i say he only THINKS she died. buddy, she didn't die. she planeswalked.

I've only barely started playing MTG but I am so far baffled as to how the community doesn't have some IRL equivalent of Pokemon gyms. People put so much effort into creating decks with unique theming, and while plenty of people are trying to optimize their decks to be flawlessly unbeatable, even more just seem to really like decks with cool themes surrounding particular creature types or mechanics.

I just think Magic would lend itself really well to a type of semi-competitive scene where you and your buddies can hop on the bus to the next town over to go fight Crab Guy (guy who likes crabs) at the Crab Gym (room at the back of a game store with paper crabs on the walls) to get your Crab Badge (small pin with a crab on it) by defeating his Crab Deck (deck whose only creature cards are crabs)

thinking about Mel again and how shit she must have felt when she learned that she was a mage and someone with immense power because that would have completely rewritten how she saw her relationship with Ambessa BECAUSE of her own mentality with the people around her. as soon as she learned that she herself was 'a weapon', as Leblanc put it, Im sure there was a part of her that believed that her mother was only able to care for her in the sense that she could be used to achieve power. I think her mind would go to that because thats what she did to Jayce and Viktor, that was the pretence of their relationship too. Mel used them and so she would expect to be used in kind because that, at least was, her mentality. she would be nothing more than another 'investment' of Ambessa's, because thats how she has learned to constitute and value relationships with other people. and i think that would suck so much more because obviously Ambessa had an immense love for Mel but beyond that point I dont know if Mel would be able to see it with unclouded eyes
