I saw that new steven has a pink letterman jacket now and I had the uncontrollable urge to draw him in mine
Some warm-up enhancements from the “Case Files” book, I’m just waiting for WB to release better versions of these renders and then I’ll proceed to archive/post them on hirespokemon.tumblr.com ù.u7
Scrapped buddies :D
the MissingNo. are out! (Kinda…) Full story on https://helixchamber.com/2019/02/16/what-dreams-may-come/
2001, Kagemaru Himeno 姫野かげまる , illustration from the manga ポケモンカードになったワケ vol. 5 (How I became a Pokémon card).
This team of Rocket Grunts disguised themselves as the Kimono girls to kidnap an Eevee. If you look closer they look like eeveelutions of course… perhaps they’re a bit too fond of Eevee. Scanned and enhanced.
Gen 1 Cut Beta Pokemon Compilation
Introduction
2018 has been an amazing year with regards to uncovering content on the development of Pokemon’s gens 1 and 2. After such a dearth of information, this sudden groundswell has been incredible, and the fanbase is still working to digest it all and glean all they can from it.
This post will focus on reviewing lost beta pokemon from gen 1. Most of the reveals come from the biographical manga released this year titled “Satoshi Tajiri: The Man Who Made Pokémon.”
It can be hard to imagine the concepts behind many of these beta sprites– often all we have are blurry, very tiny images of the sprites, cleaned up by dedicated fans, and some of these are only a partial sprite, at that. In addition, as they are very early designs, it’s also understandable the art is sometiimes rough.
That’s why I also suggest checking out the links to fanart I’ve included as well– as they also help interpret the sprites and realize the potential of these designs.
We’ll start with a list of sources for information and the cleaned-up sprites, then jump into the pokemon themselves!
Sources
Bulbapedia - Unused Pokemon and character designs (great quick overview)
Hi-Res Sprites of Capsule Monsters (one of the sprite sheets revealed by the Satoshi Tajiri manga)
Satoshi Tajiri Manga Thread by ERAsaur (amazing work reconstructing and enhancing the Satoshi Tajiri manga sprites)
Helix Chamber - Capsule Monsters (intensely detailed investigation and speculation)

so... this female trainer used to be a thing in CAPUMON... and ... also this guy previously seen on Tajiri’s "Game Design” cover along with other cool lost characters.

Capumon update! You saw that coming! We enhanced the new Sprite Sheet from the 1990 Capsule Monsters カプセルモンスター pitch recently revealed on NHK, showing some proto Pokémon like Scyther and Gyarados and … a little treat for you, we also tried to restore the barely visible pages underneath the ones they’ve shown, and we found a character sprite sheet and a new piece of concept art! Full breakdown on helixchamber.com, don’t forget to check out the whole dossier, we’ll update it soon!
Final NPC sprites used for the mockup sheet came from The Spriter’s Resource, ripped by Polar Koala.

Pinguin- Needle Pokémon
Type- Ice/Steel
Ability- Fluffy/Snow Warning/Iron Barbs (Hidden)
Pinguin’s body is covered in thick, insulating feathers to keep it warm in the freezing temperatures where it lives. This makes them extremely soft and cuddly, but it also means that they overheat very quickly in non-polar temperatures, so trainers must be wary. They’re naturally curious and will follow around Snoway that enter their territory.
Pingushion- Stitched Pokémon
Type- Ice/Steel
Ability- Fluffy/Snow Warning/Iron Barbs (Hidden)
Evolves from Pinguin at level 31.
Pingushion are covered in metal spines, but the pointy tips of these spines are usually covered up. If they feel threatened, the orbs that surround the tip migrate to the base of the spine, exposing the sharp points. In the wild, they travel in large groups to conserve heat and keep Pinguin safe. Jackets made out of their feathers keep the wearer warm even in a blizzard.
Welcome to the family, Meltan!
