would anyone like to talk about this.
the same men that glaze Socrates and Plato and Marcus Aurelius will turn around and mock you for going to college and and trying to learn for the sake of learning and the human accumulation of knowledge
To the surprising number of people commenting on animal rights posts to claim that "plants feel pain too":
Do you actually behave as if you believe that plants are capable of subjective experiences, despite having no nervous system and no brain? This is a serious question. Do you walk on grass aware of the fact that you’re potentially causing pain? Do you think about this when you’re eating spinach? Do you try your best to reduce the amount of “plant suffering” you are supporting through your purchases?
If the answer to all of these questions is no, then you probably don’t actually believe that plants feel pain. Or you do, but that belief is essentially meaningless since it makes no difference at all to your behaviour. If you’re thinking and talking about this exclusively in the context of debates with vegans then you are acting in bad faith.
That being the case, I think you then you have to ask yourself what it is about the claim that animals should have rights that you find so threatening. Why do you feel the need to occupy a troll position in an attempt to prevent an earnest conversation about the ethical issue of animal suffering?

Now that everyone is discussing Nolan's Odyssey movie, I feel like it's a good time to let non-Italians know that the production dumped plastic props into the Italian sea. Weirdly enough I could not find any article in English about it but it's a fucking problem nonetheless.
I might translate this article later today. This one was the most complete one, even in Italian news it's not talked about that much.
Non è la prima volta che la produzione solleva un vespaio in Sicilia. A Lipari una squadra di sub sarebbe però già impegnata a bonificare i
They dumped plastic skeletons in environmentally protected areas, against the literal contracts they had to sign to get the permits to film in environmentally protected areas. Like they not only did a bad ecological thing that freaked out some divers, they literally broke environmental protection laws and their contract with the Italian government
new art! 'Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Palestine'
One cannot speak of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, without speaking of Mount Carmel, without speaking of Haifa, without speaking of Palestine.
The mountain is Palestinian, as Mary was Palestinian, as Jesus was Palestinian, as the land is Palestine.

One of my least favorite tumblrisms is the obsession with romanticizing the nonconsensual suicide mission and torture of the dog known as Laika as part of an unnecessary human arms race. You need to stop making out her killing as a beautiful and noble sacrifice. She died alone in terror and in pain for the sake of a pissing contest of nationalist hegemony between two of the world’s foremost imperialist powers. There is no honor in what they did to her. There is no honor in a death you never asked for. Don’t kid yourself.

To my 25 - 35 year olds, you've reached the age where people around you are starting to give up on themselves because they think it's too late. Don't let that energy rub off on you. It's not too late.
I became a tattoo artist at 49.
Married the love of my life at 50.
Got my Class A CDL at 59.
You've got time.

*tumblr person voice* i wish that this story about horrors of war didn't depict how war affects women because it makes me uncomfortable
the poem literally starts with "so this guy we are going to talk about is Not a good person and he brought unimaginable suffering to countless people in a meaningless war" and the people are surprised when the suffering he brought IN A WAR includes rape. because women famously aren't raped in war. i am sorry, i love achilles, he is one of the most interesting characters of ancient literature to me, but it is a very important part of the narrative that he is cruel, ego-driven, rageful and violent, and it's THE THING that makes iliad interesting. like genuinely, if you're not interested in ancient reflections on what the realities of warfare are, what are you even reading it for
