This is an x-ray of a tooth with a crown on it! It also has had root canal. The root canal treatment is not the best and it actually shows a bit of infection. It is pain free so hopefully it is fine.

Toothbrushing! woo! This is pretty much the only thing that the lay person can do to keep their mouth healthy. It is good. You don’t need a bib when brushing your teeth when you’re older. Hopefully you won’t be dribbling everywhere! Actually I do, so I dribble over the sink.

Baby teeth naturally fall out when the permanent tooth is about to come out. In most cases, it is perfectly fine to let nature take its course and have the child remove it themselves...

When you have a tooth infection, often times, the two treatment options are to have a root canal therapy or tooth extraction (removed). It can be a difficult decision to make, because you would like to keep your tooth but the cost of a root canal therapy and crown may be holding you back. How do you decide?!

How do you decide?! What is a decision!? To be or not to be, that is the question. That is the only Shakespear line I know, and I still barely understand what is means...

Ideally, fillings would last forever! That of course is the ultimate aim, but realistically, the vast majority cannot last more than 20 years, without needing replacement...

Everyone knows soft drinks and sweets are bad for your teeth. Did you also know there are a lot of other foods and drinks that are bad for your teeth?

I’m really scared of crabs. Their eyes are so disgusting! They look like Predator. I don’t know why I was allowed to watch such a scary movie when I was young.

Surprising fact: I was an advertising model/actor when I was 10 years old. I only had a couple of jobs but they actually pay really well! I remember one job paid $80/hour and I spent 6 hours sitting around. This was 20 years ago! Being an introvert, this kind of job really did not suit me.

I should really have worn my retainers more. But they’re still relatively straight so it’s ok.

Do you think you're keeping your mouth really healthy because your toothpaste costs $10 a tube? Is using normal toothpaste inferior in keeping your mouth clean? 

I drew this obviously. There’s easter eggs in the drawing of course. My staff member asked whether we get dandruff in the mouth, after she saw this. Hilarious!

As you know, x-rays are to see through objects. Without them, we can only see the surface. Many dental problems are painfree...

So I bought a Subaru Forester a couple of days ago. I was hoping to pick it up yesterday, but they couldn’t get the car delivered that soon. I will be getting it next week. I am just trying to think of random things to talk about so Google likes this page more. If you know me in real life, these random things might actually be interesting and funny to you.

I stumbled upon this cool video of Chris Hadfield, a Canadian astronaut, brushing his teeth in space. This is probably the most watched video on toothbrushing. As a dentist, some things bug me about the way he brushes his teeth. I would expect that astronauts get training in how to brush their teeth...

Cool post about gums that I found from my brain

My new post about gums infections and when it gets cold! I do this weekly and I like to type random words here to keep it interesting. Is it interesting?

I will continue typing here because I think content is useful; not that it is designed for humans to read. If you are a human, that is nice. Nice to meet you. You must be extremely bored to have read so far! I am not drunk. I am just typing really quickly and typing whatever is coming out of my mind. I am not even thinking!

What are gums? Gums are flesh around your teeth! They bleed because you aren’t brushing them well! Did you know your gums are called gums? You feet also are called feet. This is mind blowing. My mind is getting cooler by the chilling effect of the blowing. Or is the blowing in reference to blowing up? Maybe my mind is so cool that when it is blowing up, it is walking away from the explosion and is not looking back.

Teeth whitening from the dentist

Tooth whitening is a very popular point of interest. The colour of your teeth lets other people gauge your personal hygiene and affects their impression of you. We would all like to convey a positive impression to others and this teeth colour is one thing of many other physical features of your body that stands out.

I want to talk about how teeth whitening works and the steps involved when you see your dentist; so you can learn about what actually happens.

Consultation/discussion Of course, the first step is to discuss it with your dentist. If there are underlying and more urgent issues in your mouth, it is not advised to proceed with whitening, until they are treated. All your teeth and gums should be in good condition. Discussion about sensitivity is important, as it is a common side effect. There are two methods in teeth whitening: in-office (instant) and take-home (gradual).

In-Office Whitening In-office whitening is what most people think of, when they think whitening. This is basically what the shopping mall stalls do, somewhat dangerously (and illegal). What happens is high concentration (40%) hydrogen peroxide gel is placed on the teeth for approximately 1 hour. Afterwards, it is rinsed off and you see your whiter teeth in the mirror. 

Take-home Whitening Take-home whitening uses lower concentration whitening gel and takes a couple of weeks to achieve the end result. The dentist will take an impression of your mouth and make models. Then trays are made to fit your mouth. You will be given the trays and whitening gel to take home. At home, you place the gel in the trays and fit it onto your teeth, leaving them in for around 2 hours. Afterwards, you remove the trays and gently brush the gel off your teeth. This process is much slower and if done everyday, it usually takes a couple of weeks.
