"My beauty is eternal."
Anybody else think about how the way Mina's parents coddled her was perfectly encapsulated by turning her into a vampire. In the face of their daughter's distress (and likely genuine grief) they choose to permanently stunt her for what could be her eternal life. Mina will be 19 for as long as she lives.
On the flipside you've got the Fairfax parents. Unlike the Has, who loved Mina in a deeply misguided way that was indulgent to the extreme, the Fairfaxes are implied to have treated Arin with an extreme apathy. Despite being on opposite ends of the spectrum for toxic parenting styles, both sets of parents "killed" their child. The Has' by ending Mina's mortal life and turning her into a forever 19 year old vampire. Meanwhile the Fairfaxes' (or at least Maximilian) tried to have Arin assassinated on their 18th birthday.
While there's plenty of implied intrigue as to why Arin was "killed" on their birthday, I can't stop thinking about it as another kind of infantilization for Arin. The Fairfaxes' try to have Arin killed right as they become a legal adult in the US, preventing them from truly asserting themself and being taken seriously as an adult with agency. Even though the Fairfaxes' failed to keep Arin from growing up literal sense it sort of worked on a metaphorical level because too many other heroes on the roster identify Arin by their youth and blatantly like a child, even when actual teenagers are a part of the ritual.
Not sure how to end this, but this all started bc i thought about how jarring it would be for Arin and Mina to meet again and see while they've aged, Mina's frozen in time, like she died.
