As #team @qtrmstrs @tinafrancistapestry @frillyind @b18leather promote, support, and encourage artists, artisans, designers and makers through a variety of events, discussions and talks. As individuals we are busy planning for @jqopenstudios this coming weekend. We are really happy to be in our own studios showing people what we make and do. Many of the makers who have been part of #qtrmstrs will also have their studio doors open. . . #jqopen studios is part of the #jqfestival @jqbid and takes place next weekend on Sat 29th and Sun 30th. This bank holidays @designfestbrum @impacthubbrum maker is @cathpotsss Cath began making pots at night school as a way to de stress, she became hooked and now makes small batches of functional items out of stoneware clay using the pottery wheel. He creates art prints of cityscapes and architectural compositions by sketching to get the composition right either from a real view or a montage of places. Today’s featured maker for @designfestbrum @impacthubbrum is @abbiegaiger Again we welcome Abbie back to #BDF2019 with her bold fashion jewellery based on geometry, symmetry and patterns found in mathematics. Abbie combines digital techniques such as laser cutting with traditional jewellery making skills. Today’s featured maker is @wendytournay joining us again for @designfestbrum @impacthubbrum this year, Wendy’s work is inspired by Scandinavian design with its functionality, honesty of materials and simplicity. Her pieces are created by the slip cast bone china method. Each new shape is modelled from solid plaster on a lathe. From the model a plaster mould is made - each piece is then individually slip cast by pouring liquid fine bone china into the mould. It’s left to cast, once firm the remaining cast is removed, it’s cleaned up, dried out then fired. But that’s not it! It’s then dipped into a glossy transparent glaze and fired once more... gotta say that’s some process. But just look at the stunning lines. Want to see more?
