Miss You - GoodguyFitz/ Cameron McKay
Cameron McKay x GN! Reader
Heaviness, sadness and guilt sat on your chest as you looked into the mirror of the bathroom. Looking at yourself you looked tired and honestly? You were. The vibration of your phone in your pocket had you snap out of the little zone-out you were in.
“Hey! I’m here, what apartment number are you?” You read. Walking out of the bathroom with one more glance at yourself you texted back.
“Be down in a sec.” You grabbed everything you’d think you needed for this date, a date mind you, you didn’t want to go to at all. Saying bye to your cat and giving her a quick kiss and pet you were on your way down to meet the mystery man your friend set you up with. With your heart aching each step closer to the man who stood outside holding flowers for you, you faked a smile. “Hey! Are you Y/n?” You nodded thanking him for the flowers. You gave a small sigh, one he clearly didn’t notice as he opened the door to the car and set way to the restaurant he was taking you to. You gave a smile at the flowers, reminding you of Cam but quickly shook the thought away. Your heart ached for him. Everything in your body did. You looked over to the man who’s name was Jacob and half-expected seeing him.
You knew you were being ridiculous. Hell, your friend had to set you up after almost two years of Cameron leaving. You couldn’t help it. The flashbacks, daydreams, dreams in general of you two being together again consumed you. His hand over yours as he drove, the flowers he would bring you to surprise you because he loved seeing your eyes go wide - truly not expecting it- his hums as he scratched your head as you two fell into a sleep, the knowing of him being there when you wake. You didn’t have it anymore. Now all you had was some visits here and there because it just hurt so much. You constantly felt like you were missing part of yourself.
You two got to the restaurant and he did everything he should’ve - made small talk, opened your door, smiled, made jokes- and you did the same. Fake it till you make it. Right? As you two ate and you looked down at your phone quickly just to check the time, someone approached your table.
“Y/n?” You looked up, heart dropping a bit at the familiarity of the voice.
“Eric.” You smiled, a lump in your throat as you looked up at him. He gave a small smile as he looked over at your date and back to you. “Right, this is Jacob, Jacob this is Eric, an old friend of mine.” You said standing up, Jacob did as well as he and Swagger both shook hands and said hello. Swagger smiled at you both. “I should go, Y/n, we need to hang out soon.” You nodded, you two stayed in contact, texting each other at least once a week but never meeting up. You two never really made plans, both being pretty busy. You gave each other tight hugs.
“I’m proud of you and I love you.” He whispered, rubbing his back and taking in his hug you gave him a quick peck on the cheek. “I’ll see you soon Eric.” He said bye to Jacob and with that the ache and guilt in your heart went down a bit. You explained to Jacob how you and Eric met. Not fully giving all the details of you and Cameron. Specifically the way you two ended, though you think he knows a bit from your friend who set you two up with the way he had sympathetic eyes when you’d finished up how you and Swagger met.
As the night ended you realized you two had a lot in common and planned more outings together. With time you two built a life together. The dreams and guilt of Cameron didn’t leave but did get less. On the day of what would’ve been you and Camerons 6 year anniversary together you canceled plans with Jacob. Not understanding why but that specific week your dreams and daydreams were just as bad as when Cameron first left. Of course he was always in your thoughts, but Jacob helped and he understood you and Cameron’s relationship, never getting upset at small outbursts when you just missed him.
As you brushed your teeth, you noticed how drained you looked. The week really took its toll on you. Spitting and rinsing your mouth you faced the mirror once more seeing Cameron behind you. Your heart sunk, as tears began flooding your eyes.
“Cam?” You asked, hands shaking. He smiled and looked at you sadly.
“Do you love him more than me?” Your heart broke as you shook your head no.
“I could never. You know that.” You responded as tears gushed down your cheeks. He gave a small kiss to your shoulder.
“I miss you and I love you. Wake up Y/n.” You turned around and when you did he was gone. Your chest got tight, “Y/n, wake up” you heard and suddenly you did. Jacob being next to you with his side lamp on. “Are you okay?” He asked as tears rolled down your cheeks. You shook your head as he pulled you into his chest.
“I miss him.” He nodded, giving a small peck to your forehead.
“Come on, put your coat on.” He replied. Not thinking straight you did and in the car you went, slowly dozing back to sleep. You woke again as Jacob shook you lightly. You woke up, eyes puffy from the tears as he took your hand and walked you through a familiar path. Though you couldn’t make out where you were, you knew where you were going. Left, right, straight and one more left. There you were greeted by Eric. “Y/n.” Looking back you saw Jacob give you a soft smile and nod. You walked up to Swagger as you both embraced each other. Tears falling down both your eyes as you both slowly went to the floor in front of him. There was the gravestone you visited every Wednesday morning.
Who will forever be missed and was loved by all.”
