SPOILERS FOR ACT 2 OF SEASON TWO

We need some personal development for Vi😭😭😭 I loved that she finally saw her sister for who she was and accepted that, even with her flaws she is still her sister. BUT I was sad that we never touched on how extremely dependent on others Vi is. If she thinks that no one needs her she loses all will and falls on alcohol and fighting to keep going. The inclusion of Vander felt like it missed out on seeing how Vi would attempt to overcome her struggle or dive into her deep rooted guilt from her personal failings/shortcomings. I am not saying that Vander’s arc was bad by any means (it was actually heartbreaking and tragic) but it over shadowed Vi’s internal conflicts that were expected to be explored through the second season’s theme of opposites.

I just feel like VI’s thoughts on other people are changing but she herself isn’t facing any relevant change. The most that happened was a wardrobe change (very cool btw) which didn’t really come with any core change to her character. We don’t really get to see her internal conflict due to her pit fighting arc only lasting 2 minutes with its addition feeling less effective due to her attitude barely changing after leaving with Jinx. This may also be due to my own exceptions and bias of this arc. I expected that the loss of everyone in her life meant that her pit-fighter arc was much more serious and indicative of her future motivations, but in reality, she bounced back much quicker than I thought. It felt more like an afterthought than a set up with actual consequences or weight.

At the moment of act 2, it feels like it is exploring Jinx further which isn’t bad thing, but it comes at the cost of Vi being sidelined in development despite the show being about both sisters. Although I am a bit disappointed with VI’s handling, I am still hopeful that the third act will address at least some of my grievances. I will not mention her relationship with Caitlyn here because it is very clear that their conflict will be covered more in-depth in the next act so I still have faith that that aspect of VI’s character will be well written.

Other than that, I really enjoyed act 2, it has got to be my favorite arc so far even with it’s flaws. I definitely miss a few detail so I would like to hear what you guys think of Vi’s progression.
