I saw the album cover for Air by YEJI and thought it fit Pearl really well. Also, I really wanted to draw feathers.

I was in a MOOD ok
The DnD characters that my friend and I created for a oneshot side story.
The requested character for a private sketch exchange.
For HPJAWESOMEWEEK on Twitter. Fantastic that they are still hosting this in 2026.
The cutest duo from Dispatch! Who am I kidding, all of them are cute.
Drawing gacha characters will be the death of me.
"I've been wanting to ask, why does the bird wear a tiny hat?" "I made it for the tiger but the bird keeps taking it." KPOP DEMON HUNTERS (2025)
KPop Demon Hunters Notes
What’s a tropey movie about kpop without some commentary on unhealthy working conditions? Rumi losing her voice because of the pressure she was put under (by her guardian, herself and her growing demon marks) was part of it too.
LOVE that Huntrix lyricist Zoey’s idols were the Sunlight Sisters and that she’s been writing since she was in US, even before meeting the other girls! AND that she brought her words with her to the stage 🥺 These girls are so supportive of each other.
Anyway... THE TIGER
I was looking for tiger symbolism in Korean temples and stumbled across this statue of a bodhisattva and his tiger xD The resemblance is uncanny!
(However further investigation revealed that it is… a lion. Oh well…)
However, that did lead me down a wonderful hole of Korean wall paintings called dancheong. Here's a lovely blog post about this art, a paper about their construction and a facebook post about who makes them and how xD In the paper, I noticed something most mysterious...
What does this remind you of?
THAT'S RIGHT it's the design of Huntrix's first stage!
So if blog and facebook posts are to be believed, one of the purposes of dancheong on religious buildings (or palaces) with its vibrant colour was to guard the structure from evil spirits.
Which then calls one other thing to mind!
The tree with streamers where Celine can often be found. Honestly, I believe that is where generations of Honmoon guardians are buried, and she just wants to remain near her sisters in spirit. More on this in another post?
We see this quite often in kdramas or movies. This is a seonangdang, which is a shrine that acts like the guardian of a village. There are different types of these shrines, and this particular form is with stones are piled around an old sacred tree with decorations attached.
This place was intended to help keep away misfortune from the village and drive out demons. People also hung colored fabric or five-grain rice on the tree between New Year's and January 15 to pray for a happy year. People passing by the shrine would pick up a stone and throw it onto the pile to drive out demons on the road. (Source)
One more thing about protection against evil spirits... but as tumblr now only allows up to 10 photos in a post, that will be left for the next one!
Check out the norigae our girls are wearing!!!! Here's an lovely tumblr post explaining them with pictures :D
The following is excerpted from a blog post norigae tassels and hanbok.
Norigae tassels are more than mere decorative ornaments; they embody a rich cultural heritage that dates back to the Joseon Dynasty. Traditionally, these tassels were attached to the strings of the Hanbok and served as symbols of good fortune and protection against evil spirits. The colors and motifs used in Norigae designs often carry specific meanings, such as love, happiness, and prosperity, making them cherished gifts during significant life events like weddings and birthdays. ... Moreover, the Norigae tassel has found its way into contemporary fashion, where it is now seen as a fusion accessory. Designers incorporate Norigae into modern attire, connecting younger generations with their heritage while keeping the traditions alive. This evolution highlights the adaptability of Korean culture, allowing it to thrive in an ever-changing landscape. (Source)
If you zoom in, you can see Zoey's yellow one, Rumi's pink one and Mira's red hanging from the waist bands of their pants.
The decorative knots themselves are called maedeup, and are a type of traditional art shared with Japan and China (though each culture has their own style ofc).
So pretty!
Back to stage design though. The one for Golden's climax really caught my eye.
I was like HMMMMMM this looks incredibly familiar 😂 Like you always always SEE it in period setting kdramas xD it’s somehow consistently the throne backdrop. I think some historical palace dramas even have it on their posters!
Put in some keywords into google, and then TADA:
Irworobongdo xD of course!
An alternative explanation is that the screen might represent the blessing of Korea by Heaven, symbolized by the sun and moon in balance. When the king sat in front of this screen, he appeared to be at the pivotal point from which all force emanated and to which all returned. Thus, imbued with sacred power, the screen manifests a political cosmology as evidence of Heaven's favour, mandate, and continued protection of the ruler. (From wikipedia)
Because Golden is supposed to be their song of blessing and protection! And also because Huntrix girls are kpop queens!!!!
..................................................................................................
But speaking of legacies!
I couldn't help but notice the backdrop of the handover scene in front of the seonangdang where Celine stays, there is a grave-like setup.
I had a theory that this was the 'ancestral' burial grounds for previous generations of Honmoon guardians, which was later proven by this shot before Rumi's mother's grave.
Look at them!!!! The Sunlight Sisters... there's only Celine left of the three of them now. It looks like she was the center/leader of the group too, with Rumi's mom being somewhat maknae coded, perhaps?
Look at Rumi! You can see how much Celine treasured her sister.
But also, what a heavy responsibility being a demon hunter is, especially when you have to carry on alone. The way her love is so deeply entwined with fear and that desperate need to hide Rumi's demonic side makes me feel like the death of Rumi's mom was connected to this, and also something she was helpless to prevent.
How do these two photos make you feel now?
Intergenerational trauma... it's a thing in this movie...
I think they touched on it very, very lightly, but it was definitely there and strongest in this scene when Celine's desperate denial was bordering on unhinged.
If you look at it from Celine's perspective though, she's going against everything she was taught, everything she ever fought for, that generations have dedicated their lives to defend the world against, all to protect the last thing she had left of her sister. Building Huntrix around Rumi was such a daring, last ditch-gamble!
Hunters kill demons. Demons steal the souls of humans for Gwi-ma.
If Rumi is a hunter, she can never be killed for being mistaken as a demon, she will never come under the power of Gwi-ma. And when she strengthens the Honmoon to its golden state, the demon world will be cut off and her marks will disappear.
Both to protect the human world and to protect Rumi, nothing must go wrong.
(Side note: Awww Zoey, what's it like going from being star struck by meeting your idol to getting used to her also being your best friend's overbearing guardian xD and learning to make light of her tagline for comic relief LOL?)
Even as the world is turning into hell around you Celine?
It's a very stifling sort of love, and not the sort of unconditional acceptance your child needs.
I think she tried her best with what she had left to give, and through the only way she know. Even if it wasn't enough. Even if she was unknowingly passing on her own trauma that Rumi needn't have borne.
For what its worth, she definitely raised Rumi to be a person with her heart in the right place though!!!!
...
I'm so glad Rumi has her friends to stand by her.
This movie is so very much her story LOL. I hope there will be others in future featuring Zoey and Mira! Or maybe even the demons!
I mean - look at those faces!
I think they simply had not enough screen time to squeeze in neat tie-offs of all the interesting people and concepts introduced. And if they had tried, it might have ended up quiet messy! So i'm fairly satisfied with what we got. Also! I actually really enjoyed the Jinu thread. Rumi's isolation because of the truth she cannot speak, the part of her she cannot reject, the goofy tiger and three-eyed bird pair, and Jinu's flashes of humanity all made her ambiguous positive-ish feelings, and that need for connection believable.
(It's also a little cyclical, with what we know of her parentage!)
Meanwhile Jinu successfully showed that there is no absolute good or evil when it comes to human nature. There are only good and evil choices, with every action you take continually being a choice.
I would not say that choosing to ensure Rumi's survival under Gwi-ma's fatal attack at the cost of his existence is a 'redemption' that makes up for the souls stolen by him with the Saja Boys, and the existences that wiped out. But it was the first unselfish choice he made in 400 years. In that moment, he freed himself!
Speaking of Saja Boys xD
I do love that Saja is both lion (獅子) and emissary*(使者)!
*See Jeoseung Saja - death gods, who reaped the souls of the dead and brought them to the Underworld.
(For some fun facts about Jeoseung Saja and why the Saja boys Look Like That, come look at this article which traces their appearances in popular culture and kdrama.)
Meanwhile, I feel like Gwi-Ma was meant to represent absolute evil, as evil personified. Even the choice of his name, inverted from magwi / 마귀 / 魔鬼 means evil spirit. The entry for this word in the online version of the Standard Korean Language Dictionary actually specifies a Christianity connection (Satan).
Which kind of makes the soul stealing and deal-making plots make sense. LOL.
Honmoon, perhaps inspired by the real life hongmun? Hongmuns are gates for entering a sacred place, where the color is said to be red because of the belief that the color repels ghosts.
A gift for my colleague.
Made myself finish a thing.
