her act isn’t fooling him - phil knows this girl isn’t stupid. she understands more of what’s going on here than she’s letting on with him - an attempt to get him to bring out daisy, which he is NOT about to do. yoyo had her arms cut off; this girl was dangerous. he wasn’t going to put daisy in there with her.
“ you’re wrong. daisy is one of us. yes she’s a hero and she’s on a whole different level, but she’s one of us at the end of the day. you ask her where her loyalties lie - she’ll tell you they’re with SHIELD. and for the record? i NEVER thought of her as a bad guy. she did a lot of good in her time away from us. but what you don’t know is it came at a cost to her emotionally and physically. now that she’s back with the people she loves - the people who have the same ideals as her - she can do the same good she did then but with a team behind her. SHIELD’s whole MO is the protection of people. secrets are kept because the world isn’t READY to know everything that we do. where do you think daisy learned those qualities from? you’re looking at him. if you trust daisy you can trust me. ”
He had it so wrong and twisted. She rolled her eyes. “No, do you know what my mom is head of? Me. And a bunch of robots, who let me tell you aren’t great conversation partners. Hydra was a bunch of dumb ideals and stupid training regimes where they make you kill your pet dog in order to graduate. They’re dumb and they’re gone. We’re just- using the name.”
Maybe the mantle had fallen to them and maybe her mom had embraced it just a little too hard, but the point was the same. They weren’t the Hydra he was thinking of. Yes, they were occupying an old hydra base and yes they were using the name, but it was mostly to get things done. No-one cared about upstart groups and they were trying to change the world for the better. They were trying to save everyone. It was her job to save everyone. To be the best weapon the earth had in defence of itself.
“We’re not interested in Hydra ideals,” that much she could tell him, “we’re trying to change the world, build a better world. A safer one.” He probably didn’t believe that. Ruby wasn’t even sure she believed that anymore. “Isn’t that what you’re doing too?” She wasn’t interested in listening to his spiel about Daisy and how she was SHIELD and how she was a good guy and they were the good guys. She scoffed and waved a dismissive hand. “I get it, you’re the good guys. Is it so hard to believe there might be two sets of good guys trying to save the world?”
