She was amazed at how bright his smile shone in the sunlight. She would have thought it blinded her it looked that good.

“Oh trust me, Ah missed tha’ feelin’,” she assured him. “It’s still like how I remember it.”

“zoey?” the man asked , brushing the hair from his eyes towards the back of his ear to reveal to him an old friend - one he had known for what felt a millennia .

“life is doing you well, my dear?” the gambler questioned , his eyes that of kindness but his expression one of curiosity near concern .

----- H er lips curled into a gentle smile hearing his voice again. It had been far too long since they’ve made contact with each other, and it showed with the way they looked at each other.

She was just happy to see him again as much as he was to her.

“It’s been fairin’ fer me well,” she replied. She gave him a genuinely happy expression in turn. “An’ you?”

Sylas placed a hand gently on Zoey’ s back , a soft smile appearing on his lips not enough to make his eyes turn but enough to bring about a comforting atmosphere .

“Thank you .” He began , his voice soothingly calm . “Thank you for letting me into your home like this . For giving me a place to stay and for listening to my many tales . I owe you so much .”

----- Z oey was glad he felt this way. She knew he would be safe if he stayed here in Bilgewater. She even gave him a smile back to add to the gentle atmosphere.

“I’m glad t’ hear tha’,” she replied. “I’d do ‘nythin’ fer a mage like yerself in a world like this.”

- Sylas watched in wonder , almost disbelief as the woman before him showcased her magic .

“ Are you certain ?” He asked with a slight tilt of the head , one that a confused hound would motion .

“ Are you certain they will accept me here ? I can never be at ease with the possibility they will not , you know .”

The Unshackled looked down at the child and rather than smiling , cocked one side of his lip in a frown , his eyes narrowing . This one did not possess magic so what would she know . This child will be tarnished just as the rest were .

- Sylas looked around as she spoke to him . This place was nothing at all like where he came from . It was much more rustic . Laid back .

“ So the mages here are seen as heroes ?” He smiled softly to himself . He had always pictured himself a hero , just never acted on it . He did not want to seem selfish .

“ I would love to stay in that case but … Where would I go ? I wonder if I would fit in anywhere .”

“Aye. Th’ ones who ‘re out there are,” she confirmed. She wanted him to feel safe here and welcomed. She knew this place was a safe haven for those who felt like they had no place in the world.

“I ‘ave a place ye can stay. It’s not tha’ big bu’ it’s enough t’ house ya wit’ some o’ th’ necessities,” she answered to his question.

“They will, Syl’s,” she told him. “I’m a dark mage m’self. My... Closest friend, a gambler, is one ‘imself. Granted, he can cheat at poker wit’ his magic, bu’ I know he’s a good guy at heart,” she added. “My o’er duties b’sides bein’ king ova black market ring is pr’tectin’ these people from gods know wha’. Ya know how bad it gets durin’ th’ Harrowin’ here. They may see me as a “hero” o’ sorts, bu’ I’m jes’ doin’ m’ duties...”

Sylas seemed a tad offput , adjusting his chains with a shake of the wrist .

“Accepting ? I want no part in their acceptance ! Gunslingers and swashbucklers - that, I want no part of !”

He sighed . “You know my relations to those without magic , correct ? Whose to say those people will not act the same as those before them - those more civilized yet so much more cruel . I cannot trust this place nor any place and by god, as this area is filled with just one disbeliever , one less spellcaster , consider your invite declined .”

Sylas gripped her hand , looking at her with disappointment .

“Dear , I sincerely apologize . I cannot trust those people enough to stay . I will be in constant fear not like I am already . Forgive me .”

----- Z oey’s eyes turned to a more saddening appearance as she listened to him on his ordeals. She knew Demacia wasn’t kind to mages, but in Bilgewater, she had never felt safer to use her shadow magic in the open. It was practically one of her defenses when she needed it most. She needed to think of a way to let him know it was alright to use his magic here.

“... I wanna show ye somethin’,” she spoke to him in a soft voice. She led him to a small market place and found a couple selling fruits from Ionia. There, their child, a young boy, sat on some boxes watching the crowds go by. “Watch.”

She conjured a hex after releasing his hand and watched as the young boy saw her then tug at his mother’s apron to go over to her. She looked and saw Zoey then smiled and let him go to her.

She soon attracted another child, a girl, and showed off her hex magic, her father chuckling with joy seeing his little girl happy. “See? They enjoy seein’ magic from mages. They dun care where yer from,” she told him with a smile.

“Trust you?” Sylas smiled softly , an eyebrow cocked . “Of course I do ! But I will say this , it is difficult for me now to trust anyone so consider yourself lucky , pirate lady .”

----- S he grinned when he told her that and carefully took his hand with her demon hand. “Good. Ye ‘ave no need fer worry wit’ people li’e me,” she told him. “I’m sure Bilgewater can welcome ye th’ same way Ah do.”

- tobias intertwined his fingers as he sat in the greenhouse , staring out the glass wall - like windows at a woman who appreared to be passing by .

- he knew her as a combat proffesor here at the academy but courage was never gained to confront her directly . she intrigued him . he had fallen in love with her yet he did not know how to say it .

- so he waved to her shyly as her beautiful eyes shifted his way . quickly , he turned back and began to tend to plants that did not need tending to , avoiding the assumption of a stalker .

----- Z oey had been teaching at the academy for a few months as a combat professor. She got the job after showing off her assassin skills and found her the perfect teaching job for assassins.

She quite enjoyed her work as a professor and even got closer with her father-figure Malcolm Graves, another professor at the school.

Zoey on her break took a stroll through the campus and found the greenhouse. She walked around and glanced inside when she noticed another figure inside it. It must be one of the other professors here due to his clothing. She smiled a little when she saw the wave to her and waved back but noticed he was tending to his plants.

Must be a shy guy.

—– T anta slithered around her neck and hung there like a scarf while she entered the Academy. She found admissions and explained that she was here to be a new professor. The admissions employee brought Yuumi and she happily gave Zoey the paperwork to fill in after the tour.

In the meantime, Zoey wondered where Graves’ classroom was now. So in response, she slipped a text saying:
