Hayden felt on cloud nine as she placed her hands on Alaska’s hips. Everything was perfect and beyond what she ever dreamed of but she pulled away as she realized that maybe the girls weren’t alone. “Hmm… What about your parents? I mean, nobody knows you’re… ” Hayden whispered as she stroked Alaska’s arm. And there it was, a flaw in what she thought was perfect. “And your friends? What are they going to think about me? About us?” She went on as she couldn’t stop thinking about why what they were doing wasn’t the greatest idea.

Alaska almost whimpered when they’re kiss ended - too soon in her mind - but pulled back, with her arms still around Hayden’s neck, and listened to what she had to say. “My parents know...but I’m uh, I’m not allowed to ‘be that way’ around them. And if I told my friends...I would lose everything. I would be kicked off the top so fast. Could we maybe have this be our little secret for a while, and maybe work up to telling people at school?” Alaska pleaded, her eyes starting to fill with tears over how shitty their situation was.

Hayden smiled as Alaska’s touch was comforting. “Great, because I like you too.” She said before kissing the other again. This was definitely a surprise. Who would’ve thought that once both of the girls settle their differences, they’d actually develop feelings for each other? Hayden was on heaven as for once, a crush was reciprocated. Confessing her feelings wasn’t going to make the relationship awkward at all. It was all for the best.

Alaska smiled into their kiss as she wrapped her arms loosely around Hayden’s neck. It felt like bliss...to finally admit her crush on the other girl and have her like her back. To be kissing her as well, was a dream. For once, Alaska was kissing a girl because ‘she was drunk’ or because ‘she wanted a guy’s attention’. She was kissing Hayden because she had feelings for her and nobody else was witnessing it except the two of them. It was private and intimate and just what Alaska wanted.

Hayden sighed as she closed her eyes. She couldn’t believe what was happening. It was only a few weeks since the two became more than acquaintances and were able to decently hold a conversation and now, Hayden had impulsively kissed Alaska. What seemed to be a good idea a few seconds ago became a very confusing concept, a few seconds later. “I think I-I do… Please, just tell me you’re not joking.” The girl responded, her voice cracking. Hayden always made sure she was in full control and never liked things to go unplanned so opening up to Alaska and getting this far into the relationship was definitely overwhelming.

Alaska rapidly shook her head at Hayden’s comment. She definitely wouldn’t joke about something like that. They had just started to patch up their relationship and Alaska certainly wouldn’t jeopardise that by making a joke about having a crush on the other girl. “I promise you I’m not joking...I really do like you.” She spoke quietly and cupped the girl’s face gently with her shaking hands.

"No, I promise. I don’t like violence." Hayden responded to console her friend. "Plus, why would I ever do that?" She questioned as she waited for an answer. Once Alaska revealed who her crush was, Hayden was in shock. At first, she thought it was a joke but once she saw how the other was avoiding to look at her, she understood it was real. She took Alaska’s hands away from her face to look at her in the eyes. Hayden moved slowly as she went to kiss Alaska. "I guess I sort of, maybe, possibly have a crush on you too…" She whispered once she pulled away.

When Alaska felt her hands be pulled away from her face, she was fully prepared for a slap, or at least a long speech about how they were better off friends. She definitely didn’t expect Hayden to kiss her. It took her by surprise, a very good surprise and after getting over the initial shock, she started to kiss her back. “You..you d-do?” Alaska asked in disbelief but couldn’t stop herself from smiling widely at the girl’s confession.

“What? Don’t tell me you have a crush on yourself, that’d be.. Very narcissistic of you” Hayden chuckled. The girl was very intrigued to who Alaska was crushing on and the fact that her friend didn’t want to confess made her even more eager to know. “The aftermath of what? I won’t tell anyone.” She repeated as she sighed. “Please?”

“You promise you won’t get mad or leave, or slap me?” Alaska asked barely above a whispered as she avoided eye contact with Hayden. “I sort of...maybe, possibly have a crush....on you.” She admitted with a shaky voice and buried her face in her hands. She was ready for Hayden to laugh at her, yell, storm out - she was ready for any negative reaction.

“Alaska’s a baby, Alaska’s a baby!” Hayden chanted as she pulled her tongue out. “C’mon, don’t be such a chicken. Be a little more daring. Plus, I’m sure I don’t know the person so it’s completely fine.” The girl begged. She didn’t know why the other was being so stubborn and she wanted an answer. “I didn’t know you could be intimidated so easily! Please, tell me. I won’t tell anyone. I promise.”

After listening to Hayden’s begging for her to tell, Alaska was getting frustrated. The girl had no idea that the crush was her. If she knew, she wouldn’t be begging. “Oh trust me, you know this person very well.” She laughed slightly and rolled her eyes. “I can’t tell you! I don’t want to deal with the aftermath of it, so I can’t, okay?” Alaska stated and groaned, her head hitting the side of the couch in frustration.

Hayden smiled as Alaska’s comment made her feel at ease but uncomfortable all at once. The girls started off as enemies and now, Hayden had found things that made her attracted to the other. This relationship took an odd turn and she didn’t know if she should’ve forgiven the once called bully but everything felt right in that moment. Hayden liked to plan things ahead but with Alaska, she’d just have to go with the flow.

The brunette couldn’t stop laughing at how Alaska became nervous. “You’re adorable when you’re nervous. This should happen more often!” Hayden chuckled as she prepared another question. “Since it’s making you so uncomfortable, let’s get specific. Who’s your crush? And don’t lie!”

As Hayden asked who exactly her crush was, Alaska’s eyes widened and she quickly buried her face in her hands. “Can I pass on this one? I really don’t want to admit who it is. That might kill me. I’m a confident person, but I’m not brave enough to admit that.” Alaska mumbled and refused to take her hands away from her face. Admitting to Hayden that she had a crush on her felt like the worst thing in the world. She was sure the girl would turn her down, there was no way she liked her back.

"You’re welcome…" Hayden softly spoke as she suddenly got hot. Her face got probably red too because that usually happened when she was shy or anxious. "Thank you, Alaska. It means a lot." She smiled as she looked down at her hands. Alaska was always complimenting her and it made her feel good about herself. The more she got complimented, the more she believed the words that left Alaska’s mouth.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. A little imagination never hurt anyone though." The girl playfully rolled her eyes as she thought of another question. "Crushes? Oh, well , that will be my next subject. Do you have a crush on anyone right now?"

“You’re welcome. I really meant what I said by the way.” Alaska gave Hayden a small, comforting smile. She didn’t know why she was always compelled to compliment the other girl but she enjoyed the feeling it gave her when she’d see the girl’s reaction. Plus, she did need to make up for all the awful things she’s said to her. 

As she heard the other question, Alaska’s cheeks immediately started to heat up and her eyes darted down to her lap. She couldn’t admit who her crush was...she just couldn’t. Things would surely become awkward if she admitted that her crush was the girl who was sitting next to her. “I uh, I-I... I don- I mean, maybe...I mean... Yes...I do have a crush on someone at the moment.” Alaska’s voice cracked from nerves at the end of her statement.

"Okay, okay, I get it." Hayden threw her hands up, deciding to drop the subject. "Oh, please, I wouldn’t say you’re up to his level.. I’m kidding. You’re way more than that.." The girl blurted, immediatly regretting it.  "Yeah, you’re right. Sometimes, I just can’t wait to graduate, just to start all over again and to be somebody." Hayden sighed as she shrugged. A new beginning was much needed for her. She added no comment to Alaska’s statement as she thought she didn’t need judgement, she probably felt bad enough.

"Aww, don’t be so upset." Hayden giggled as she waited for the girl to answer her question. "Ew, people like you make me question humanity. Although it is not sold white and gold, white and gold should’ve been your answer." The brunnette joked. "Okay… Did you ever fall in love and if yes, with who?"

Alaska gasped and put her hand over her chest, feigning hurt. “How dare you say I’m not up to his level.” Hearing what Hayden said next caused a blush to spread across her cheeks and looked down shyly. “Oh..um, thank you.” She spoke quietly, taken aback by what the girl had said. “I know you’ll for sure turn into somebody. You really do deserve it.” 

“Ew, people like you make me question humanity.” Alaska mimicked back playfully and stuck out her tongue at Hayden. “It’s sold in black and blue, hence why black and blue will always be the right answer. You need to get your eyes checked.” She laughed and nudged the girl with her foot. After hearing the next question, Alaska’s laughter stopped and she actually thought very hard about her answer. “I don’t think I ever have. I tried to fall in love with all the guys I dated but there was nothing there, absolutely nothing. Even with the girl I was sort of ‘with’ in eighth grade, it wasn’t love - I didn’t even know what that meant back then. The most I’ve ever had recently is crushes.”

“Oh, c’mon, he’s not that bad!” Hayden laughed. “Yeah, everyone can be “nice and stuff”! Not everyone can be popular and have others drool over them and just be really cool.” Hayden simply stated. There was nothing so special about being kind in highschool. You had to be memorable. “Make out with girls? In front of everyone? Didn’t that lead on that you liked girls?” The girl questioned.

“Yes, I win! I told you I wouldn’t like it! I never settle for gross things.” Hayden playfully stated. “Oh, yeah. I’m going to start with something very basic, not too deep. let’s just ease into it.” The girl said. She imitated the sound of a drum roll as she was thinking of what question to ask first. “Okay… What color is the dress?”

“He is! He’s so annoying!” Alaska grumbled but couldn’t stop herself from laughing. “Yeah well, that take talent.” She joked and flipped her hair over her shoulder. “But seriously, that doesn’t matter when we all leave. Even I know that.” She shrugged. “Nope, the guys found it really hot and I would just use the excuse that I was either too drunk to tell it was a girl or that I was just doing it so the guys could get a show. It’s disgusting but it’s what has to been done.”

Alaska buried her face in her hands and let out a frustrated groan. She really thought she was going to win. “Really? You decide on that?” The girl laughed and raised an eyebrow at Hayden. “Well, obviously the dress is black and blue. Next.” If Hayden was starting off with questions like that, Alaska assumed they’d all be silly like that.

“I don’t, I’m not that obsessed. He’s nice and that’s it. Besides, even if I wanted something with him, nothing would happen. We’re complete opposite.” Hayden shrugged. “Aw… Have you ever had a… Secret relationship with a girl at school?” The girl asked, hoping it wasn’t too personal. 

Hayden’s eyes met Alaska’s as she was ready to listen to what she was about to say. Saved by the bell, Hayden thought as the bell rang. She smiled as Alaska went to go get the pizza. What was her friend about to say? Questions related to that tormented her mind but her thoughts were interrupted as the girl came back with the pizza. “If I die today, tell my parents I love them.” Hayden stated, disgusted by the sight of the Hawaiian pizza. She took a slice and started eating. The combination of the pineapples and the pizza just weren’t satisfying to her taste. After chewing a few bites, she started speaking again. “The verdict is… I hate even more than I did before. I told you you’d lose!”

“Thank god, I would have needed to knock some sense into you if you were obsessed.” Alaska winked playfully. “You should never want anything with him. But you’re not complete opposites though, you’re both nice and stuff. So not complete opposites.” She mumbled with a shrug. “No, I haven’t. I’ll make out with girls at parties, but I’ve never gone further than that.” Oddly, the though of being in a ‘secret’ relationship with most girls seemed terrifying, but with Hayden...it actually felt like it would be worth it. 

Alaska’s jaw dropped and gasped when Hayden still didn’t like her pizza. She was really looking forward to a personal maid but it looks like that isn’t happening anymore. After putting her pizza on the coffee table, Alaska sat on the other side of the couch with her arms folded and a pout on her face. “This so isn’t fair. But fine, whatever, you win I guess. Ask your stupid questions.” She mumbled.

“Nah, no place for that. My dreams will be filled with what the typical “Jason Harries” party is like.” Hayden giggled. “Well, it’s alright, I get it. We’re not forced to like everyone and everything. By the way, where’s the pizza?” The girl asked, feeling a little hungry. “You know, if it’s thirty minutes late, it’s free, right? Only two minutes ‘til it can be free!” Hayden said, way too excited. “Ah, so you want the girls to be drooling over you instead of him, correct?” She raised an eyebrow as she grinned. 

“You always say that but I never know if you actually mean it.” Hayden blurted and the room suddenly got very quiet. Too quiet for her own liking. She didn’t mean to say her thoughts out loud and it was quite nerve-wracking. “I—hmm, I didn’t mean to say that. It’s j-just I don’t really understand why anyone would say nice things about me… I’m just m-me.” Hayden whispered. Abruptly, she forgot about what they were talking about and could only hear her heart bumping at its fastest, as if it was about to rip her chest open and jump out.

“Please don’t tell me you dream about him? C’mon, I thought you were better than that.” Alaska scoffed and rolled her eyes at Hayden. When asked where the pizza was, she looked at the time on her phone and frowned. “Hmm, it should be here by now. Well, let’s just hope it does take another two minutes.” She giggled and put her phone back down. “Well...I mean...yeah, I guess I do.”

Alaska’s furrowed her eyebrows when Hayden mentioned not understanding why people would say nice things about her. If she could, she would say nice things about her every single minute of the day. She deserved to be complimented. “You’re not just you...you’re an amaz-” Thankfully Alaska’s potential ramble - which may have resulted in her spilling her feelings - was interrupted by her doorbell ringing. “Looks like our pizza’s here. It’s time to finally find out the winner of this bet.” She grinned and hurried towards the front door, completely blocking out what had just happened between them about thirty seconds ago. After not paying the delivery person since they were late, Alaska arrived back in the living room with the two pizza’s and cheered. “Let’s ignore your irrelevant pizza for now. I would like to show you the best pizza creation known to mankind. I present, the deliciousness that is...the Hawaiian.” Alaska grinned and opened up her pizza box, showing it off to Hayden.

“We both know you want me to win, Alaska. It’s alright.” Hayden said, stroking her friend’s arm as if she was consoling her. “Wh-what, wait… Why?” Hayden was taken aback by what Alaska was saying. She couldn’t comprehend on why she didn’t like Jason. “Ahh, I sense a little jealousy.” Hayden said playfully as the mention of other girls stung a little bit. The girl tried to keep her emotions in because their friendship was taking a unexpected but good turn. 

Hayden looked at Alaska right in her eyes, not sure if she was being serious. The brunette was at a point in her life when she couldn’t accept compliments because people always made jokes out of them. She was only protecting herself; she had been doing that her whole life. “You don’t have to say that, Alaska.” The girl nervously laughed. She couldn’t handle hearing those words from Alaska, as she felt like they didn’t mean much to her friend. “I wouldn’t recommend that. No dancing is fine for me.”

“In your dreams, Hayden.” Alaska giggled and swatted Hayden’s hands away from her arm - even though the touch gave her butterflies. “I just don’t like him that much.” She mumbled. And I don’t like that you like him so much, she thought but didn’t dare say aloud. “I’m not that jealous...maybe a little. But when all the girls, except me, are all drooling over him, what do you expect? Of course there will be a little bit of jealousy.” She looked down and avoided eye contact with Hayden. Of course the other girl heard her call her special, that just adds to her growing embarrassment. “I don’t have to, but I want to.” She whispered, her cheeks heating up as she spoke. “Okay then, I won’t ever make you dance. ...Unless I win the bet, that is.”

“Don’t worry, nothing too deep… But be a little scared because you never know what I might come up with. DUN, DUN, DUN.” Hayden sang playfully as she raised an eyebrow. “I can’t give you examples because it’ll kill the suspense but it might have to do with something we have in common. That’s all I can say.” The girl said, faking to zip her lips. “I don’t mind, as long as I’m not eating… Hawaiian pizza!” Hayden jokingly replied. 

“Hey, don’t roll your eyes at the famous Jason Harris. Don’t you hang in the same crowd?” She questioned. The sudden change of mood in Alaska made Hayden wonder if she had said something wrong. “What? That’s not what everyone says though. You really don’t enjoy his parties?” Hayden became more and more interested with Alaska’s statements. “No, my friends didn’t even consider the idea of going. I was the only one hesitating. I kind of felt special…” She said the last part barely audible as she felt ashamed of sounding so desperate. “Oh, no. You really don’t want to see me dance, it’s… Bad.”

Alaska playfully narrowed her eyes suspiciously at Hayden, “Hmmm...okay. Now I’m really intrigued. I still hope you lose, but I’m intrigued about these questions.” Now, Alaska scoffed. Why did they have to talk about Jason? It was exhausting. “Yeah we hang in the same crowd. I practically have to be joined at his fucking hip. I just don’t really like him that much, and apparently I’m the only fucking person that doesn’t.” She rolled her eyes again. “I really don’t. He gets to be surrounded by all these hot girls and I have to be surrounded by disgusting, sweaty guys.” It felt good to actually talk about one of her reasons for disliking Jason. Since Hayden knew about her sexuality, it felt easier to open up to her as she couldn’t do that with anyone else. “You are special.” Alaska whispered accidentally, really hoping Hayden didn’t hear her. “I’m sure you’re not that bad. Maybe you just need to practice?”

“You’re welcome.” Hayden smiled. “You should be. I’ve got all of my questions prepared, I know I’m going to win this.” Hayden explained with confidence. She hoped at least that she’d win. Being Alaska’s maid for a while seemed torturing enough and not interesting at all. She really needed to win the bet. “Nope, you don’t. Well, I don’t even want to know  what I’m missing out on if it’s Hawaiian pizza.” The girl laughed. 

“Jason? Y-you mean, Jason Harries? Oh my— And you missed that to hang with me? Only half of the world’s population dreams about Jason. Jason is all the mathematics club talks about! Wow, I’m in a lot of clubs..” Hayden rambled. Jason Harries was one of the most attractive guy at school and his attitude made him even more charming. He was somewhat smart, nice and always in a good mood. He was, in Hayden’s eyes at least, the perfect combination of a jock and a really helpful and good human being. 

“You know, he invited me to one of his parties but I decided to not go… I wouldn’t have fitted in anyways.” The brunette softly said, looking down at her hands. It was a reflex to always avoid eye contact with others when she felt embarrassed. “The description you just made sounds like everything I wanted to avoid. I’m an horrible dancer.”

“I’m not even gonna lie, I am actually quite worried about what you might ask if you win.” Alaska nervously admitted. If Hayden dived anywhere near her home life with her parents, that would be dangerous territory. Or if she asked about any crushes, there was no way that she would be able to hide her extremely growing crush on the girl in front of her. “You suck, you know that?” Alaska teased and poked Hayden’s side playfully. 

Alaska rolled her eyes at Hayden’s response to Jason Harris. Everyone at the school was so heart eyes for him. As he was the most popular guy and she was the most popular girl, they were always around each other’s proximity and it was starting to make Alaska sick - he frustrated her. “Yes, I missed out on the great Jason Harris’ party to be here with you. This is much more entertaining and fun than anything he could pull off. His parties suck.” She grumbled. Okay, so maybe she was a little jealous of how Hayden was talking about him, but just a little. “You would have fitted in, he invites the whole school so I’m sure there would have been your group there. Plus, I wouldn’t of minded being around you, even if you are a horrible dancer,” She joked and playfully winked at her.

Hayden heard Alaska’s scoff and looked at her friend with a strange and questioning look. “Alaska, I’m not lying. Your house is magnificent. I’ve never been in a house as breath taking as yours.” The girl spoke, looking around, trying to make her eyes capture every detail of the striking beauty of the place.

"Oh, shush. It won’t happen. Get ready for the ultimate interrogation!" Hayden spoke in a lower voice to imitate the one of a male host. "Alaska— no! Ew, I have taste… Unlike certain people." Hayden playfully spoke, giggling. Everything was so light weight and enjoyable around Alaska. Hayden could laugh about anything and didn’t have to stress about exams or projects. It was like what she thought was important, wasn’t as much anymore.

"So who’s party are you missing?" The brunette asked, just to begin the conversation. "What do you even do at a party?" Hayden asked, intrigued. She had never been to a party so she didn’t understand the hype behind them. She wanted to know what she was missing.

Alaska decided to not argue with Hayden on how she viewed her house, because she didn’t know. She didn’t see what she saw and honestly, she didn’t want her to. “Yeah well...thanks. I mean, I guess it is pretty fancy.” She shrugged with indifference. “Oh wow I’m so scared.” She rolled her eyes playfully and stuck out her tongue at her. “Excuse me, I have the best taste! You don’t understand what you’re missing out on.” It was still weird to joke around and act carefree with Hayden. Not that long ago, Alaska was bullying her and now...she was crushing on her and acting like friends with her. “Oh just Jason’s. He has parties every month and honestly, I’ve just gotten bored of them. Excessive drinking and having intoxicated people getting up in my personal space was just becoming too much.” Weirdly, spending a night in with Hayden sounded a lot more appealing that going out with her usual crowd. Everything just felt...better around her. “What do you do? I dunno...drink, dance, hook up with people. There’s nothing extremely exciting that goes on” Alaska shrugged.
