btw it's so fucking stupid you can be anxious physically in your body even after you've decided mentally you don't care. I'm supposed to be in charge here
"THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL."
> [More versions below !]
I've had this one sitting in my files for a minute.
*Pokémon’s your Siffrins*
honestly there are tons of Pokémon that would fit them, but I really like the Peakychu = craft exhaustion comparison my brain made, so ISAT Siffrin might be the one to escape the loops, but they get permanently changed doing so. At least, this version is.
Mr. Puzzles Is Voiced By JelloApocalypse
Here's a fact not many people know. Mr. Puzzles is voiced by one JelloApocalypse.
That stupid hat that I hate, makes drawing scenes where they’re next to anyone a nightmare. Wavy hair Loop is at least fun to draw.
Anyway I’m done with most of my exams. I still have two left, and one I need to study a lot for, but I’ll back to writing chapter 4 again. In the meantime, a chapter 3 sneak peak but drawn.
Full thing if it’s hard to read in the art:
“Could we…” they trail off and reach up to pull their hat over their face in embarrassment. “Could we do what we did before again?”
“Touch therapy?” You’re lucky you don’t have a mouth, because the smirk you feel is wide and smug.
The choked, squawking noise that escapes them gets cut off with a sharp intake of breath. They turn their head away, and you briefly catch a glimpse of a horrendously flushed face.
“Is— ahah, is thaaht what we’re calling it?” Was that a voice crack?
“Do you have a better suggestion?” You tilt your head, batting your lashes cutely.
Their face scrunches up. “You’re making fun of me.”
“I’m teasing you! There’s a difference.” You’re allowed a little teasing you think, as a small revenge for all of their teasing of you.
Well, it’s not as if they remember it, so maybe you’re being a bit unfair.
“Never mind.” Loop mumbles disappointedly.
“Hey, that’s wasn’t me thinking it’s silly or stupid, and it definitely wasn’t me saying no! We can do touch therapy if you need.” Need. You have to stress that. It’s not something they just want, it’s something they need. You’ll beat that into their skull if you have to.
They look embarrassed again. “Okay….”
Okay! You both sit.
“Are uh…?”
You smile. “Your move, Siffrin.”
They’re confused, as they often are with you, and they move from their root to yours, sitting beside you. They look at you, expectantly.
“Your move,” you reiterate.
“Wuh— but I can’t— Stardust, I—!” They cut themselves off, and stare down at their trembling hands. “I can have this, I’m allowed to…” they mutter to themselves, and look between you and their hands. Gently, they pull off their gloves, and toss them aside.
They dither for a time, hands hanging uselessly in the air. They’re holding their breath.
Finally, Loop places their bare hand on yours. You reach out with your own and rub up and down their sleeveless arm.
“You’re here, with me.”
They breathe out. “And you’re… here, with me?”
…You think of warm spa waters, and laughter.
Your heart aches.
“…I am.”
『SELF-iSH꩜
The original album cover is from the famous Will Wood and The Tapeworms' album: SELF-iSH!✧
"Mr. Puzzles' character was degraded and he was woobified" No he wasn't. No it didn't. He gradually changed and GREW as time went on. You THOUGHT he was this big evil mastermind when he never was, so seeing him act human and without his typical facade FEELS like character assassination when it isn't.
"Mr. Puzzles sucks now!" Maybe to you. But that's because you were viewing him as something he wasn't, to begin with.
"Why is Mr. Puzzles so pathetic now?" Because he always was. His literal introductory song describes himself as a lonely isolated child that cut his head off during a manic episode. You were expecting him to have his life figured out? You were expecting him to sincerely be what he presented himself as?
Puzzles lacking direction in the episodes after Puzzlevision was, like... the point? Puzzles not knowing what the fuck he was doing and just kinda going on random bullshit adventures while he tried to figure out how to get revenge was... the point? An actor without a set script is GOING to flounder.
Adding on to this. It always gets me whenever people complain about Puzzles being weaker after the Puzzlevision arc. Especially during the Memewave arc. Which is, yeah? Yes he was. That was the whole point. He lost his ratings and his powers were weak because of that. That was a key detail in both arcs.
"I miss old Puzzles. He became so pathetic after Puzzlevision" Congratulations! You fell for a character's performance and are now seeing them in a narratively vulnerable state. They look weak because this is how they are without anything to hide behind.
@factual-fantasy
i'd like to add that the shadow color isnt necessarily dictated entirely by the primary light source, but the bounce light! so for the example of a sunny environment, the reason the shadows are blue are because of the light from the blue sky reflects across the environment; but, if the character were to be under tree cover, the bounce light would be coming from the leaves and thus the shadow would look greener.
Yee yee!!! You got it right on the nose!
Bounce light is something I didn't cover but I adore it!
Gotta work on my bounce light 💪

James Gurney is an absolute master and gives really good clarity on colour techniques. Yes, it is traditional paint focused, but the principles are the same. Yes it is informed by the environmental colour but as a painting technique it is achieved this way!
I would also suggest that in digital processing, rather than apply a regular colour layer at a mid opacity, try out the different types of layers, Eg. Screen or Multiply. This can give you at least a starting point to help direct your colour palette.
Layer Blend Modes are so so so important to working in digital art. There's a ton of math that goes into figuring out how the layers should blend together, which is why some of the modes you can pick are literally called Multiply, Add, Divide, and Difference (that's subtraction). The graphics software takes the color values of your base and blend layers and runs a calculation to get your resulting layer appearance. The ones that don't have specifically mathematical sounding names are still doing calculations, but they're more complicated (think linear Algebra and higher). Some of them, like dodge and burn, are named for actual photo editing techniques.
While it's not super important to know about the mathematical side of blend modes, I think it's worth knowing at least enough about how each of the categories of blend modes works and why they do what they do; if for no other reason than having a starting point when you start experimenting with them in your work.
An overview of the basic blend modes and how they work from Genevieve's Design Studio: Accessible with minimal color knowledge; practical and illustration focused. https://youtu.be/kMc87hQrJd0?si=TWCB365pKSfWS8p0. (16 minutes) This creator also has a ton of free resources you can download, including a Blend Modes cheatsheet, but fair warning: you have to create an account to get them!
Want to learn even more about the math-y stuff? It has great film visuals! A video from FilmmakerIQ: You need some basic knowledge of RGB color models, understanding of values/luma, and at least a tenuous understanding of Algebraic formulas. I tried distracting a vampire by throwing rice at him, but I only had two grains with me so it didn't work. He counted them instantly. Then he asked me what I was even doing with exactly two grains of rice, and I explained how a bowl of rice tastes better if you spread it out over an entire day. I asked him if he was gonna suck my blood but he said no, he just had a lot more questions about the rice thing.
