Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) dir. Peter Weir
INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (2022-) | S03E03
most important question about the tvl finale is: who taught daniel the word 'yaoi'
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Summary:
The first time Armand kisses him, Daniel has the distinct and dreadful feeling that this isn't, in fact, the first time Armand has kissed him. And he's not referring to those six days in San Francisco, is not thinking of the way Armand had caressed his face then, of the way his fangs had sunk into his neck. Nor is it like his turning, the way he'd ravaged him then, all anger and desperation and something else he hadn't wanted to think about. No, this is nothing like that. This is much worse.
can i offer you a nice devil's minion in these trying times

bro why is not even the iwtvedit tag safe from discourse. can you learn some basic tumblr etiquette and not slather your posts in irrelevant tags. im there to look at gifs of my blorbos, not get condescended to
getting the feeling a lot of people did not like the tvl finale but im not going in the tags to check so i just feel like an oblivious toddler playing with my toys while the world burns around me
adaptations are tricky right, bc especially with book-to-film or book-to-show, it's simply never gonna be a 1:1 adaptation bc books can do things film/tv cannot. so things have to change, and that can create a ripple effect where one small change breaks the story or leads to even bigger changes. which sucks if you liked the original, of course.
however, i think (me, personally, in my opinion) that, if the person doing the adaptation is not the original creator, you have to bring your own vision onto the new story. you have to change it, because what's the point otherwise? it's like those live-action disney remakes that are just the same movie again but not animated, there's no point because you can just watch the original. it's not trying to say anything new or interesting.
which is not to say that i don't understand the frustrations with adaptations changing the story. i stopped watching game of thrones after s4 because they changed stuff, but crucially, the stuff they changed was bad. it just sucked. it had nothing interesting to say to me.
whereas something like alex garland's adaptation of annihilation, i'm much, much more forgiving of the changes made, because he at least had something new to say with the story. i still don't like some of the changes (like whitewashing characters), but it is its own cohesive thing with a point of view that's different enough from the book that i think it deserves to exist and is actually quite good. i still prefer the book by a long shot, but equally i don't need to see a more 'accurate' adaptation, because i already have the book, you know? it's still cool to me that the art begot more art.
now i haven't read the vampire lestat. i'm planning on reading it, and it might very well change my mind on the show when i do. however, as a non-book viewer of the show, i had a good time with it. it's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it's fun! i had fun, and i felt like the writers had their own things to say and that the adaptation deserves to exist and be judged seperately from the book as its own thing. sometimes you have to decouple the original from the adaptation to stay sane, you know.
this became an essay uhhhh conclusion: i get people are disappointed but also i find adaptations are usually better when they have their own things to say. but that's just my onion. peace and love on planet earth.
you are my mutual and to some extent my wife
spent most of today trying to get into the right mindset to write this fic by shuffling through various dark and moody musics, but you know what. it's back to carly baby. the perfect soundtrack for a horrormance
