It’s kind of crazy to me how much Tommy erases everything else in Buck’s mind. Buck is honestly obsessed with him. I mean in the first episode where they meet Buck has just saved Bobby, a man he himself has said is like a father to him, from certain death and instead of rushing to insist he get checked over or hovering to make sure he’s okay (like Buck usually does), he’s lagging behind to make eyes at Tommy. 7x04 is then all about how Buck is thinking about Tommy all time. He’s talking to everyone about Tommy, he’s trying to get invited to karaoke and basketball games to see him, and when Eddie doesn’t take the hint Buck finds a way to show up where Tommy will be anyway. When he’s at Maddie’s wedding after someone else he loved almost died, he’s glued to his phone wondering when Tommy will arrive. When they break up he’s even more obsessed, thinking about him so often he has to take up a new hobby and talking to anyone who will listen about how much he misses him. And in 8x11, we see the true mind eraser powers of Tommy. Buck is down bad about Eddie moving to Texas, he’s been talking nonstop about Eddie to Ravi all night and then Tommy shows up and it’s like “Eddie who?” Ravi took one look down the bar and thought “thank god, the only person who could get Buck to stop thinking about Eddie is here.” Tommy sits down and all thoughts of Eddie are erased. Tommy is like “Eddie moved” and Buck is like “yeah but it’s whatever, anyway let’s talk about you.” They go back to Eddie’s house, where Buck hasn’t even started to move in yet because he hasn’t wanted to think about Eddie being gone, and suddenly Eddie leaving is no longer a thought in his mind, all he can think about is getting into Tommy’s pants. He wakes up the next morning to find that Tommy has already done some unpacking, and instead of freaking out about how that means Eddie isn’t coming back, he’s angling for a good morning kiss. Tommy brings up “the competition” and Buck is like “who?” because he’s forgotten every other person in the world exists except the man in front of him. Tommy brings up his jealousy about Eddie and Buck’s brain can’t even comprehend it, like why would he be into Eddie when Tommy is right there. Later when he’s talking to Maddie about it, Buck once again is only thinking about Tommy. He isn’t phased by the talk of Eddie, quick to say “I’m not in love with him,” and instead spends the conversation talking about what Tommy said, and how Tommy acted. The conversation ends perfectly with Buck saying I should call him and Maddie assuming Buck is talking about Eddie, meanwhile Eddie is already out of sight and out of mind for Buck and he’s back to thinking about Tommy again. When Maddie assumes he means he’s going to call Eddie, Buck is like “Eddie? Why would we be talking about Eddie, I’m obviously talking about Tommy, why would we be talking about anyone else?” I mean that’s crazy, your ex and your sister both ask you if you’re in love with your best friend, while you’re still grieving the fact that he moved to a different state and you’re like “who cares about him, fuck that, I want to talk about Tommy.” You could even argue that Buck is Tommy-pilled in the two part lab storyline where his whole team is locked in a building with a deadly virus and the US military is planing to leave them there to die and Buck’s like “I think this is a good time to call my ex-boyfriend.” Iconic behavior.

My current favourite reconciliation scenario is definitively Tommy knocking at Buck's door when he's spiraling because of Maddy's alleged kidnapping because he heard and he just couldn't let Buck deal with that alone. Buck sort of throws himself into his arms and starts crying, he's still horribly mad at him but also he needs him way more right in that moment. Later on when Maddey's safe they actually get to talk and make up.

(we also know 100% Buck would try to hook up to not think about what's going on and Tommy would stop him in a 'let's not go there right now you're not in your right mind' kind of way)

i really don’t see this happening in the show but i LOVE the idea of it.

Because Maddie gets kidnapped by a serial killer, it’s only a matter of time before it makes it to the news. There might even be an amber alert. Eddie, being the thoughtful friend he is, texts Tommy to let him know what’s going on, because how awful would it be to find out a friend is missing via the news?

“Hey man, just before you see it on the news, I wanted to let you know that Maddie’s been kidnapped. Police are currently looking for her, they think it’s the serial killer. Chimney and Buck are not doing good.”

And even though Tommy isn’t with Buck anymore, it still hurts his heart. He’d gotten to know Maddie pretty well, he knows how much she’s been through in her life. He feels for her, Howie, and Evan.

Tommy knows that Buck will go Full Buck to find Maddie. He’s heard the story about Big Bear and the running through the snow following a blood trail. Yet, while Tommy has no doubt that Buck could’ve taken on Doug in Big Bear, he doesn’t think Buck can take on a serial killer. Tommy knows he’s going to try though.

So before he can even think about it, he’s in his car driving to Buck’s apartment, and then pounding on the door. It takes Buck less than five seconds to open the door and he looks like a mess. His hair is ruffled, he’s pale, and has a sort-of crazed look in his eyes. For a moment, it looks like he hasn’t even registered that it’s Tommy at the door, and he goes to walk back to his kitchen when he stops. Turns around. Stares.

Tommy is leaning heavily against the door frame, out of breath from running up the stairs, and just stares back at Buck. At least he’s still here, Tommy thinks. Buck opens his month and closes it again a few times, unsure of what to say.

They stay staring at each other, unsure of what to say, when Buck starts walking towards Tommy. It looks like he’s going to close the door in his face, and Tommy straightens up and takes his hands off the door frame. However, instead of closing the door, Buck swings his arms around Tommy and hugs him, just holding him close.

It takes Tommy a second to realise what’s happening before he wraps his arms around Buck, holding him tight. He can feel his shoulder getting slightly wet through his t-shirt and realised that Buck is crying softly.

Without saying anything or removing his arms from Buck, Tommy begins to shuffle them into Buck’s apartment and out of the doorway. He softly closes the door with the heel of his foot, and Buck’s hands grasp his t-shirt tightly as if he thinks he’s going to pull away.

Tommy just tightens his hold around Buck and lets him stay like that for as long as he needs.

I am 100%, a 1000% convinced this was a behind the scenes issue, either clashing between actors or with higher ups or I don't know what but nobody can tell me this storyline made ANY SENSE.

We finally got a LI that couldn't have been more perfect for Buck if they tried - a slightly older, secure person who could make him feel loved, safe, and accepted for who he is and who got his very demanding and high-stakes job and fit perfectly with the most important people in his life. We got Tim literally saying he wanted a person who was already known and not just a random bloke. We got all the bullshit of Buck getting off the hamster's wheel. We got all those scenes of a) Tommy being perfectly integrated in his world and b) Tommy being the most incredible partner ever

And then... they break up? They last less than all the other random LIs Buck'd had so far? Because he needs to... sleep around? At 32 years of age?

Another thing that pisses me off tremendously is HOW they handled it, I would have preferred for Tommy to not return his feeling than to have him say something so valid but for Buck to just stand there silently instead of going ' hey wait a minute. I am a grown ass adult with plenty of relationship experience, I know what I want and it is you' like ANY SANE PERSON would have done.

Also, for the sake of my brain, 6 months with a person at 30plus years of age is NOT a weird timepoint to ask to move in. You've been around the block, you know yourself, you've had relationships before, you know if somebody fits with you or not. It'd have been perfectly reasonable for them to take that step.

So yeah, the only explanation is a behind the scene issue that called for Lou exiciting. Which makes me even sadder because it means we won't be seeing a storyline about Buck trying to get him back after realising how much he wants and misses him.
