"We should really head back. The sun will be up any minute now!" Mina calls out to Heathcliff through the evergreens, following him towards the water.
"Come, my lady. I have something I wish to show you." Heathcliff beckons, "After all, what is an undying life without a little thrill?"
Mina approaches him apprehensively, unaccustomed to her Heath being so daring. "All right, but make it quick! My immortal life has only just begun."
Heathcliff's face softens, "Indeed. And may it endure evermore, alongside my own."
"Oh..." Mina's voice trails off, leaving an awkward silence between them. "I thought that was a given. I love you, and have no plans to leave. Is that what you want to discuss?"
Heathcliff takes Mina's hand and says, "Mina, nothing would bring me greater joy than for you to remain here with me for all eternity. But not merely as lovers β as husband and wife."
Unsure of what to say, Mina stays silent. She looks upon her sire, her lover, her entire world. A hundred years separate their birth, and yet, in this moment, they have never been closer.
Heathcliff bends a knee and produces a diamond ring from his waistcoat pocket, brilliantly reflecting the first few rays of sunlight piercing the horizon. "Mina, will you marry me?"
"Yes," Mina replies, her eyes glistening with tears as she brings her hand up to her face in awe.
Without another word, Heathcliff pulls Mina into an embrace, kissing her under the cloudy skies of early morning.
