…
The lukewarm water trickled down her back, dripping onto the cold shower floor below her. Fingers ran through her wet locks she quietly hummed a tune that had been stuck in her head practically the whole day. Only now had she taken the time to google the full song, realising she had been singing the words wrong this whole time.
Grabbing the bar of soap that smelt like an awful lot like frangipanis, she washed the dried blood off her limbs. Humming contently she washed the bubbles off her soft skin, watching as they were swept down the drain. Moving to her back her fingers ran over the prominent scars running down from the nape of her neck to her right hip.
An awful chill ran down her spine, her body tremoring briefly as she cleansed her back. Attempting to shake off the despicable memories she brought herself to her happy place.
Large plains of green decorated with luscious assortments of flowers, ranging from small daisies to beautiful tulips. The air smelt of earth like it had just rained but the sun was gleaming proudly in the clear blue sky. It was warm, but not too warm. Like a cup of tea that was perfect to drink, still sending that balmy feeling down your throat. Sounds of the gentle breeze hitting the blades of grass, causing them to brush together.
It was enough to numb the inevitable pain that she had been dealing with almost her whole life.
Her eyes opened to look at her pruning fingertips that were once soft like the petal of a rose. With once simple twist the water was off, the last droplets escaping down the drain. A hint of red was in the glassy water, blending in and spreading like a disease.
Grimacing slightly as she watched the red liquid disappear, she pushed the white shower curtain to the right.
It revealed the dimly lit bathroom, the lighting giving it an eerie feeling. The ghost of a frown remained on her lips as she looked around the bathroom, mold forming on the once white ceiling and stains from heaven knows what forming on the creamy coloured tiled walls. She had tried once to eradicate the stains with as much bleach and chemicals as she could but was unable to. The fumes eventually got to her and she decided not to continue any longer.
Her feet met the baby blue bathmat and her hands snatched her towel off the drying rack. After her skin was completely arid she wrapped the soft material around her torso, exiting the steamy bathroom and into the hallway of the small apartment she called home.
It was quite hard to navigate at eleven o’ clock at night in a house that had horrendous lighting. As her feet hit the wooden floor boards she found her way to a door that had paint splatters decorating it. Oh, how her mother despised the messy looking colours, trying to repaint the whole door again but days later they had returned. (Y/N) found it appealing, giving her a sense of comfort. But that serenity had been thrown out the window and into the most horrendous dumpster in all of New York city so long ago.
She bit her lip as her hand wrapped around the ice cold doorknob, twisting it until she heard a soft click. Pushing the door open, a gust of wind punched her in the face. Eyes widening slightly, she looked around her bedroom that was in the most appalling state possible.
Glass covered the floor, coming from her window that was completely shattered. Her curtains were thrashing in the harsh winds, rain adorning her window sill. The many books that sat in her bookshelves were on the floor, pages ripped and thrown everywhere. Bedsheets were ripped, desk and computer were broken.
All that seemed to remain was her phone, protected in it’s midnight blue case. The screen turned on, lighting up the disaster of a room.
Tears stung her eyes as she looked around the place she considered safe but someone had come and ruined it. Something inside of her was screaming at her to get the hell out of there incase the intruder was hiding in the bedroom but unlike any rational person she tip toed over to her phone, careful to not step on the glass shards.
Cautiously she pressed the home button, the screen once again lighting up. A smile adorned her features as her eyes skimmed over her wallpaper.
It was her with the happiest expression on her face with a girl equally as ecstatic as she was. She was trapped in the girl’s arms that were tightly wrapped around her waist, (Y/N)’s arm hanging loosely on the lady’s shoulder.
The girl had this long, blonde hair and the most dazzling blue eyes you’d probably ever see in your life. They were sparkling, as where the girl next to hers. You might’ve thought the blonde was a model if you didn’t know her but she was simply a barista at the local coffee shop.
A text message brought her away from her day dreaming, the box popping up and covering their indescribably happy faces. The words that were displayed on the screen sent this revolting chill down her spine, causing her whole body to shudder.
‘You’ll be home soon, princess. – Tom.’
