especially when they’re angry
“oh we can’t hold the Queen accountable for the actions of her ancestors!!!”
her ancestors? you mean her dad?
y’all realize she was crowned in 1953 right? Nearly 70 years of imperialism with her face stamped on it. She’s the longest-lived, and longest reigning British monarch.
Y’all look at her and see a kindly withered old gramma with memeability, but completely ignore the amount of damage that she and her family have done to so many countries.
“oh well, what did you want her to do, just walk away from it?”
yes.
Yes, I do expect people to look at the harm that systems they uphold do to the world at large and then actively refuse to continue their participation in them. I do not believe that is too much to ask of anyone, let alone one of the most powerful women in the entire fucking world.
Sorry that I’m not particularly impressed with her #girlboss legacy when the Indigenous Peoples of Canada and Australia are still feeling the monarchy’s effects on their homes and families.
70 years and she never once thought, “Hm, maybe imperialism is a bad idea?”
I hope the old woman kicks the bucket, and I hope that her family continues to disintegrate until the entire thing comes crumbling down. May independence finally come to the people England has been crushing under its boots for centuries.
Also, it’s not even her dad, the Mau Mau Rebellion and the “Malayan Emergency” both ended in like 1960. The British Empire, that she was the head of at the time, used concentration camps to deal with both.
And while this isn’t is bad as crimes against humanity, she has also been directly interfering in the drafting of our laws for years we recently found out and then were expected to forget.
What about Northern Ireland, where British soldiers were killing children and civilians in her name?
Yeah, so many horrible things done in her name, under her watch, I forget them all ffs
All of this! Ireland, Scotland, India, Canada, Australia, and so so many others have suffered under the British Empire.
Bruh this bitch was the queen when Nigeria and a bunch of other countries decolonized. Jamaica JUST decided to get her face off they money.

as well, of course, as Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, which are still a part of the British kingdom, although i am unsure whether the people in them consider their countries to be colonies
so, yeah. “ancestors” my ass
and that’s not mentioning that none of these countries ever got reparations and all of them (as well as pretty much any other third world country) are still victims of british imperialism
sources: list of countries that have gained independence from Britain (link), British Overseas Territories (link)
Colonization and the first birth pangs of capitalism and the supremacy of ‘private property’ really gained mass institutional legitimacy with ‘enclosure’ or seizing of common land and privatizing it. The queen is the owner of and continues to profit from most of the lands and resources that were expropriated from the people by Inclosure Acts.
Jus quick with the guillotine.
And yes, I absolutely condone state led murder, in this case.
whilst i am always and forever just begging doctors to properly check interactions before they prescibe things (@ pharmacists: fuck everyone else i respect you i love you xoxo)
i am in fact also begging everyone to read the leaflets you get with your medication. if you have difficulty reading or understanding those leaflets that’s fine just like… ask the pharmacist. never met one who wasn’t happy to explain drugs.
but like…
“SSRIs make you less tolerant of heat” should not be a shock - it’s in the leaflet. they make you sweat, give you hot flashes, and make your skin more sensitive to the sun. that’s all in there.
“mixing alcohol and benzos is a Bad Time” is not a shock. it’s in the leaflet to avoid alcohol.
“my ADHD meds made me not want to eat” is not a shock. it’s in the leaflet that they cause appetite suppression and weight loss.
you do not have to “find out the hard way” you really don’t. and bc doctors are fuckin useless at bothering to actually read and/or understand and/or explain interactions like… ever, apparently? there are plenty of places you can check for yourself or, again, just ask the pharmacist if there’s anything to watch out for.
i mean asking a pharmacist about interactions is basially asking them to infodump about their hyperfixation. you’re asking someone who thinks drugs are really cool to talk about drugs they are not going to be upset about this.
oh hey my grandma was a nurse too!
the amount of people who don’t read them and then later are like “WHY DIDN’T ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS” *pinches nose bridge* they did. it was in the leaflet.
And if you lose the leaflet, or can’t read the print, or whatever, DRUGS.COM
It’s got, like, every medication ever, with pictures and everything, and all the side effects, AND a really handy interactions checker.
love drugs.com for that. only site that has the full full list of side effects (go to the ‘for professionals’ section) and their interaction checker is great as well bc it does also include supplements and recreational drugs in the database. i personally prefer the go.drugbank.com checker but only because i’m a supermassive nerd and gives you all the technical mechanisms behind the interaction. plus you can go full nerd and look at the complete pharmacology of anything. which is probably only parsable by, like, 5 people who follow me but it is really cool though
anyway if, unlike me, you’re a normal person drugs.com is absolutely your best friend outside of an actual pharmacist
Cannot stress enough how important this is. I’m allergic to an antibiotic & was once given another medication that was not that medication but was contraindicated for ppl with that allergy. My allergy info is up to date with my pharmacy… but their computer missed that, or they didn’t check. (My doctor DEFINITELY didn’t.)
That kind of mistake can kill a person. Always check.
That’s why every ad for medicine in Germany has to include the following text:
“For risks and side effects, read the leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacian.”
I love the ‘ask your local pharmacist about drugs and let them talk about their hyperfixation’ part here, that’s great advice and my pharmacist 100% is a life saver. But honestly can people stop acting so condescending about people who didn’t read the leaflet?
I don’t know where you live but around here, ‘the leaflet’ is roughly two pages of very tiny and very long chemical-sounding words mixed with extremely scary sounding but exceptionally rare side effects. I went to university and I still struggle understanding the damn thing.
Low literacy is extremely common and people who are less literate often try very hard to hide that because that is something that our society acts very very shitty about. Add to that the fact that the drugs you take reveal what medical conditions you have, and a looooooot of people who can not read the leaflet will be afraid to ask anyone to explain the leaflet.
There are a lot of other barriers that might stop people from reading the leaflet, from poor vision to trouble focusing on dense texts to panic attacks related to those extremely scary sounding but exceptionally rare side effects, etc. And in all cases, asking for help means admitting to a vulnerability AND sharing your medical data with someone.
“But it’s online in bigger letters here”, well, it doesn’t say so on the package. And ‘internet literacy’ isn’t universal either. And also, how good are any of us at reading and processing complex information when we’re SICK? I sure lose some of my wits and energy when my body is busy fighting off some serious illness.
So if you haven’t read the leaflet and something bad happened: don’t let anybody tell you that that is your fault. You are not stupid, you are not to blame. This information should be available in much easier and more accessible forms. Your doctor and your pharmacist should be checking interactions for you and explaining possible side effects for you. They should not be forced by budget cuts of profit margins to move to the next patient as fast as possible instead of taking time to make sure you understand everything about the drugs you’re getting. You are not stupid and you did not deserve what happened to you. The system failed you.
Thiiiis! I keep all drug leaflets I get particularly the adhd med ones because I take literally any opportunity I get to pull them out and laugh about the irony that they expect an unmedicated adhd'er to read two long pages of tiny fucking text before taking the med.
Like I get for kids it’s the nt/healthy parent that reads it or as an adult you can ask the pharmacist but like, point is; in a lot of cases the leaflet is just bloody inaccessible.
(In addition to that, my leaflets are all in german and god fucking dammit is that language hard to read. I have to reread every sentence twice or more to get it and urgh it’s just annoying, and i know i’m not dumb for struggling with german. reading a language just can be hard sometimes)
Yeah, I hadn’t even considered the language barrier yet because my own meds come with a shit ton of little papers with tiny texts in different languages, but that’s far from universal and those fifteen-something little papers don’t cover every language either.
Also in case every self-righteous and condescending poster cant tell. If im prescribed hardcore drugs, for my significant MH issues, and im recovering from a psychotic break, then no, perhaps im not in the best condition to read tiny print, pages and pages of teeny tiny print. It must be comfortable for you to be so fucking well, you never considered it might be hard, or someone might be doing thier best.
And a small catalogue of side effects, might just be beyond them in either capacity, or understanding.

tumblr is social media for people who don't exist
I know people outside of the Southwest generally don’t think about the desert / its peoples but this is only one disgusting act committed by DHS/the United States. They’ve also blown up ancient O’odham burial sites this year.
I don’t really care about Jill Biden’s fucking valentine hearts.
What I care about is that Joe Biden is a piece of shit who promised $2,000 checks “out the door immediately” and still hasn’t delivered. What I care about is that there are still people in cages.
What I care about, is that so many of you are acting like the Bidens are a cute little celebrity family that we can be proud of, when Biden is a sexual predator who drops bombs on brown people overseas.
Fuck the Bidens. FUCK them. They are not good people. They are not our saviors. They are establishment politicians and they DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU.

Wolves fighting for dominance as a “thing” came from observation of captive packs. Observation of genuinely wild packs has revealed that it is not, in fact, a “thing.”
Y’hear that, ya shitty modern werewolf writers?
hear that, self-styled “alpha males”?
They weren’t even captive packs, they were a bunch of unrelated wolves shoved together in too-small a space.
So if you’re an ‘alpha wolf’ then you are, in point of fact, not the noble, fierce and imposing leader of a group who respects you, but a scared wild creature with no social support frantically lashing out at strangers to try and gain some semblance of control over a fundamentally uncontrollable environment?
Huh.
That would explain a few things.
(points) (points) (points)
I don’t like terms like “crunch” or “crunch crisis” or “crunch culture” because I feel like we’re giving a serious problem a cutesy-wootsy name to increase the misconception that low-level tech workers are somehow different from “““real”““ workers.
Like when I worked in manufacturing and the boss wanted us to pull twelve-hour days and seven-day weeks in order to make the assembly line spit out enough widgets to fill a last-minute order, we didn’t call it “crunch.” We just called it “a bunch of fucking bullshit.”
It’s not “crunch” it’s labor abuse, which often goes hand in hand with other forms of abuse.
Look. When I was 19 and just getting the hang of Design school, I went to my professor nearly in tears to tell him I didn’t see how I could finish my project in time. He spoke to me in a calming, fatherly tone.
“Don’t despair. You’re doing it just fine. You’re gonna do it. You’re gonna be late in your schedule, and you’re gonna think it’s impossible, and you’re gonna stay up all night working, several times, and then you’re gonna turn in your project at the last possible minute. And then you’re gonna do all that again, every time you have a project. It’s all right. It’s how we do it.”
And I just stared at him in shock. And that’s when I knew Design was not for me.
Then I went to Computer Science school, where I had to design software, and I found myself working nights to finish my projects, but I was ok with it, because I enjoyed working ten hours straight after a full day of math classes.
And I realized that was probably how my fellow Design students did it (the ones who didn’t drop out). They enjoyed the work enough that they were able to work absurd hours, to give up their lifeblood for the projects.
This culture runs so deep that there are professors in universities teaching it to their students. You’re trained to overwork yourself from a young age. Actually, if we’re honest, even underage students in schools are being trained to overwork themselves, staying up nights, studying 12 hours a day, often doing horrible homework that they hate.
And then we get these young people who are trained to find labour abuse absolutely normal, and who, maybe for the first time in their life, are being payed (!!) to work on a field they have chosen (!!) and maybe even enjoy (!!), and then their boss is like “you’re gonna have to deliver this in a week” and they’re like “sure, I’ll just work day and night every day, just like we did in class (and besides, if I refuse, I’ll be out of a job)”
It’s fucking labour abuse and our society is training us from a very young age to accept it as natural and feel bad about ourselves when we can’t do it anymore and we very much need to break this cycle
And then getting mad when your actions have consequences (x)
stop giving white people the benefit of the doubt lmao. they know that black people don’t have the privilege of doing this kinda shit without being shot at. they know they can get as violent and destructive as they want without the authorities stepping in. they know they know THEY KNOW
I hope there are people online who are keeping tabs on all these photos and videos and working to identify and dox every single piece of shit terrorist cuntbag who stormed the Capitol.
the cops literally let them in
terrorists support terrorists.
