You ever dated anyone before coming to the city?

I had a few failed dates but not a relationship. Dr Stevens was my first even though we never labelled it anything.

Will you be attending the Halloween party?

I will be helping the host on the bartending side. I don’t think I’ll join in those games but I might be able to watch on the sidelines still. I also need to prepare a costume.

What does the most recent text that you sent say?

‘I’ll clean out the storage tonight’. I sent that to my boss.

anybody you'd like to hang out with again platonically?

Maybe Mckenna... Though I don’t think I could think of him as someone.... Platonic. It’s hard to when someone is charming as he is.

would you want to tax pax on a date?

I would love to if he’s into it. He seems like a busy person but a date with him I think would be wonderful. I’ll have to prepare flowers and clean up nice.

What is one thing you want more than anything else?

Right now? I just want to have someone who can see past through my insecurities and wants to be with me still. It’s been so lonely here.... Maybe even some friends. I’m hoping to meet some new people at the Halloween party.

Jane looked at him, unconvinced and a bit suspicious. She wasn’t used to people showing interest in her, the last person to do so had her on and off for years until they cut Jane off. That’s how she was, she came and went and needed people to be there for her when she wanted them. “I don’t know. Maybe. We can be friends.”

“Friends. Right.” Noah said looking a little down and disappointed. Of course. He should’ve seen it coming. No one wanted to be more than just friends with him. He was disposable like garbage. Noah forced a smile looking up at her again. “Sounds great to me.” He nodded his head not really knowing what else to say. All of this felt awkward which is a shame because he really does like her.

Do you like bonfires?

Sure. They’re chill and romantic. You also get to roast some marshmallows so that’s nice.

What do you prefer: carving pumpkins or handing out candy?

Carving pumpkins. I’m already obligated to hand out candy for my patrons.

When you see a leaf pile, are you automatically tempted to jump in it?

Not at all. I don’t see the point in doing that. I hate getting myself dirty but I can’t lie and say I don’t enjoy WATCHING people do it. It’s quite adorable.

“Maybe because I said I was going to text you and then I- well, I didn’t.” Jane worried she stank, that her breath might smell of booze and he’d know she’d been drinking. She didn’t want to get too close to him to risk it. She had a hard time maintaining eye contact with him, she didn’t know how to be vulnerable with people. “I didn’t know what to say. Which is lame, I know. Plus, I’m like super fucked up, in case you didn’t notice. You dodged a bullet by not calling me.”

“It’s okay.” He said shrugging. It didn’t really matter anymore now that she was here and they were talking at least now he knew she hadn’t avoided him because she hated him. It gave him a beam of hope though he didn’t want to show it fearing he would look too needy. “I mean.... I’m kind of fucked up too so I wouldn’t mind it. I enjoyed my time with you still and I think you’re fine.” Sure he could smell the alcohol but it wasn’t anything new for the bartender. “We could start over maybe? Get to know each other better?”
