Just sharing this here for no particular reason!
at my job we have a TV that constantly plays trivia and today was the first day ever I brought my prayer beads to work. It was also the first time ever I've seen a norse related trivia question, and a question about Loki nonetheless!
But Sigyn, his wife, stands by him, and holds a dish under the venom drops. Sigyn's way takes such courage. Her way is a quiet way of personal mindfulness and dedication. It is a simple way. It is a terrifying way.
Sigyn: Well respected, warrior queen of the valkyrjur, everybody loves her
Loki: Absolute freak elf-giant who does graceful acrobatics and speaks in riddles and tells crude jokes. Is invited to the function but no one trusts him because they have no idea what he will do next
Both of them: Obsessed with each other
me: *prays to loki*
him: hi!!! nice to see you again!!! lets make everything happen today :D
me: OK THATS NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING BUT ALRIGHT IG-
every time my entire life as I know it gets upended Loki has a way of sashaying through the door like
I truly think that one of the best things you can do with your polytheistic practise is to stop listening to random people on the internet.
Don’t listen to the people who tell you that the gods don’t care about or love you. Don’t listen to the people who tell you an offering of water is not good enough. Don’t listen to the people who say it’s a requirement for show of devotion to have expensive items strewn across your altar. Don’t listen to people who tell you that you should have an altar even if you can’t. Don’t listen to people who suggest your disability makes you worthless to the gods because you can’t do what others can.
Try to find and make your own experiences with the gods, and look at what works for you and them. Please don’t let some random post on the internet stress you out and make you think you are doing something wrong (chances are, you’re not, especially if it’s absurd statements like the above).
To the Gods you are not sinful, guilty or unclean. You are you, unique in every facet of your existence.
The Gods hold grace for you. Existence is not immoral.
Existence is not immoral.
If you’re having a hard day remember that the Gods still love you.
They know every single one of your flaws and they still love you.
They have seen every one of your mistakes and they still love you.
They have loved you through every failed relationship, every bad job, every moment you are not proud of. They do not feel betrayed by you, and they do not expect you to condemn yourself forever for things you have done.
The Gods know humanity, and they know we are not perfect. Never once have they expected you to be flawless.
Hail the Gods, I am so grateful for their love and protection
Crying alone? No no no, light a candle and cry in the company of gods.
So one thing I’m grappling with is the fact I’ve gone long stretches without devoting time to my religion.
Today I started reading the Havamal (the Jackson Crawford translation) and out of the mouth of Oðin himself:
“145. it is better not to pray at all
than to pray too much;
nothing will be given that you won’t repay.
It is better to sacrifice nothing
than to offer too much.”
So yeah.
Dont feel guilty for not constantly being at your altar or offering things.
I made a bindrune for Deny, Defend, Depose that's easy to draw quickly on things like insurance paperwork. 🫀
