Nanea's Cookbook

So Nanea's books have so many great foods mentioned that I just knew I had to make a "cookbook" for her. However, unlike Cecile, Marie Grace or Rebecca, Nanea and the rest of the beforever girls never got paper dolls I could use for cookbook covers.

I am not an artist, so my alternative was Frankensteining together art from Nanea's book, elements from the American Girl Magazine paper doll series and some drawings in Photoshop. I'm honestly pretty proud with how it turned out and really excited to make cookbook covers (and maybe even craft books if I can come up with enough ideas) for the rest of the historical girls!

All these dishes are mentioned in Nanea's books, except for the onion fritters which are a recipe from when Hawaii had too many onions which does come up in her series, and the Spam eggs & rice which seems the most likely candidate for what the Mitchell family is having for breakfast when we are told Nanea's mom made scrambled eggs and rice.

Day 4: Style Spotlight

Lucy's chiapaneca-style dress is beautiful and among her favorites. She likes outfits like the one on the right for casual wear. You may often see her in concert black, though!

Here are a couple of outfits Luana really likes. You might also see her rocking her scoliosis brace: she has a couple different designs. She prefers the hairstyle on the left, a braid crown, or loopies!

Valentina generally prefers pants, although she looks great in anything!

Gabriela is enjoys a good skirt combo, but also loves a button-up. She rocks both curls and braids!

I've curated a collection for Raquel that is mostly purples and pinks, but she does like the outfit and hairstyle on the right!

Lila's open to many things! She mostly prefers anything she can get active in, but she does enjoy the occasional dress.

Space or bust for Luciana, of course!

Ivy tends towards cool colors, but also likes to get into a vintage (read: 70s) aesthetic when she's less concerned with comfort.

Sonali enjoys casual, sporty, and preppier styles, depending on the day!

I haven't really developed Chrissa and Gwen's styles as much yet: I have ideas, but either don't have the pieces or haven't taken photos. The Wellies are limited by my collection, but they're mostly just "KID". And last but not least, MG and Cécile stay true to their collections.

Caroline's Creek Adventure

It's a beautiful spring day in Sacket's Harbor. Caroline dreads the thought of helping with the baking and needs an excuse to be outdoors for a few hours, so she tells everyone she's going fishing and hops in the skiff.

When she gets in and pulls out the fishing rod, she remembers that she forgot to bring bait.

She also notices there are no fish in the creek anyway, so even if she had brought bait, there's nothing to catch.

Being out on the water reminds her of sailing with Papa.

So she orients the skiff downstream, just to see where it goes.

She steers the skiff down the creek, where the trees thin out and the sun beats down.

Mostly she lets the current carry her along.

She ends up at a beaver's dam.

There aren't any beavers right now, but this will be a fun story to tell Papa some day when he escapes captivity by British army.

And like. I don’t hate Daisy. I’m kinda at that ‘disappointed but not surprised’ point. I do like the fact that her storyline doesn’t seem to be “I have too many hobbies” and doesn’t seem to be “friendship troubles for the millionth time”. I’m interested in how her story handles a disabled character at a summer camp even if I wish it was Daisy who was the disabled character. Anyway. It’s may and I don’t know how much more we’ll learn before September. But. It’s insane they announced her in MAY?!?!

Just a little something I made as an another addition to Caroline's collection!

This soft crown bonnet appears in her fourth book, Caroline Takes a Chance. Neither it nor this dress were ever produced for her collection, so I decided to just do it myself.

Straw hats are easy to find at thrift stores. I cut one up to make the brim and reinforced it with some extra stitching in matching thread. Now her face can stay shaded from the sun when she goes out fishing in the skiff, which she is going to do in my next post.

Meet Neevee Tungilik

Meet my newest doll Neevee! She is a nine year old Inuk girl who lives in Iqaluit, Nunavut. She loves sewing, rock collecting and scrapbooking.

Neevee means nurture in Inuktut and she is my first modern doll OC. She's an Our Generation Mei doll who I re-wigged with Kavi's wig that I bought from a grey-market seller on Ebay.
