FAQs
How do I vote?
With your heart. Don't focus on what the author intended, or the perception of identities that would be available to the character at the time. If you think a character is queer, then they are.
This blog uses 'queer' as an umbrella term for any non-hetero sexuality or non-cis gender. Polls sometimes include specific labels as an option for people who find it useful or validating to apply their contemporary understanding of identity to a character.
What characters can I submit?
Any relatively prominent character(s) from a prose story, poem, myth or play published prior to 1960 (or post-1960 to be featured in the modern classics series). If you think that two characters from a text only act queer when put together, you can submit them as a pair.
What should my submission include?
The name of the character(s) and the work they appear in.
If you headcanon a character as a specific identity, you can add that and I'll include it as an option on the poll. Also feel free to plead your case with relevant quotes or your own opinions.
