Are we getting a Lost Legacy Sequel?
Bear with me as this will be quite a lengthy post. I've been plagued with chlodine brainrot since 2017 and in the last 5 years or so, I haven't been able to shake the idea that we may be getting a second (and potentially final) game to round off the uncharted franchise. I'm going to walk you through my completely batshit theory. Enjoy.
February 2020 - We hear that Naughty Dog and Sony bend enter a deal together - Sony Bend were delegated with supporting development for an unannounced 'instalment of a beloved franchise'.
March 2020 - Five new songs get mysteriously added to the official Lost Legacy Spotify playlist 3 years after it's initial release. 'No Time to Die' by Billie Eilish was released Feb 2020. None of the Uncharted 4 playlists were updated.
March 2021 - Sony bend ask to be removed from the Naughty Dog project as they didn't want to get absorbed into ND and wanted to focus on their own IPs. (Source)
April 2021 - Shaun Escayg (the director of The Lost Legacy) returns to Naughty Dog after working at Crystal Dynamics between 2018-2021.
Here there is a long period of silence - Legacy of Thieves is released, TLOU1+2 remaster, the Factions cancellation and Intergalactic announcement happen in the meantime.
May 2025 - Neil Druckmann says Naughty Dog are working on a second unannounced project directed by Shaun Escayg. It's rumoured that this has been in development for over three years. (source)
February 2026 - Shaun Escayg teases fans with this incredibly uncharted-esque picture taken at Fort George in Trinidad & Tobago.
Which brings us to now. My gut feeling is that the post from Shaun was purposefully posted to generate buzz for a new game. Funnily enough, the post flew under the radar for about 4 weeks (it had 50 likes about 2 weeks after it had been posted as you can see from my screenshot) before all the gaming news reporters found it and blew it up. Could they have given the press a little nudge to generate more excitement? Why generate excitement for something unless you're going to announce it soon? There's reportedly a large State of Play for Playstation being held soon, as well as Summer Games Fest planned for early June. It all seems a bit too coincidental to me.
Now for the unfortunate other side of the argument - will this new game necessarily focus on Chlodine? The answer is up in the air. We know the devs love Chlodine and enjoyed developing their story a lot (to the point where they made a 5 hour DLC a 10 hour standalone game instead!), and we know they purposefully left the ending of Lost Legacy open to other instalments if they wished to pursue it.
However there's a risk this uncharted game focuses on someone else entirely - Sam Drake and Cassie Drake both being strong contenders for another game. Personally I don't feel like Naughty Dog want to reboot the uncharted franchise completely - it seems like they're keen to move on from it (it's certainly had it's time!), so introducing another protagonist or rebooting the series with Cassie wouldn't make sense to me. Rounding off Chlodine's storyline could be a perfect end to the Uncharted chapter. Claudia and Laura could not want to reprise their roles as Chloe and Nadine which may lead Naughty Dog to pursue different avenues...But I digress.
I have a million other reasons why we could or couldn't be getting another game, but I have a strong suspicion we will be finding out in the upcoming months. I sincerely hope we find out sooner rather than later because I am going insane over here. Anyway - hope you enjoyed the ramblings of a madwoman. Long live Chlodine.
