Making fun of someone for playing a game on easy is ableist. They may be playing at that level because of mental or physical illnesses so stop making them feel so bad for it. Also calling them “cheats” is ableist as well, people use “cheats” to help them due to being disabled. We should rename then accessibility codes.

You can only go so far

There is a danger to studying the criminal mind. I learned that as you spend an extensive amount of time on a topic like that throughout most of the day, you end up taking it to the next level. You then find yourself entertaining those thoughts of what that person did. You try to imagine their state and imagining if you have the capacity to do anything like that. You start to question yourself and wonder what you are actually capable of doing. It is a highly dangerous thing especially for someone who struggles with anger and suffers from mental distress or unhappy with their life situation(especially someone who feels powerless and feels like a loser). If you’re all alone, you could find yourself slipping into a dark place. One thing can lead to another where you first start sympathizing and relating to that criminal in ways unrelated to their crimes and then you start to imagine yourself in their state as they were murdering people, and then you start entertaining if you went out and did something really bad yourself and how it would pan out.

Level 1: Studying the progression of a killer’s descent into madness and the crimes themselves

Level 2: You start to sympathize with that person with how they suffered mentally and pity what became of them, but still condemn what they had done.

Level 3: You start imagining yourself in their state and how it lead to that point.

Level 4: Beginning to entertain or imagine committing violent acts yourself, but still don’t consider acting on it

Level 5: Questioning what you are actually capable of and start dreaming about committing acts of violence or perhaps large scale destruction.

Level 6: Willing to commit acts of violence/large scale destruction and actively formulating a plan to implement these acts

Final Level: Action

Lever 3 is somewhat dangerous, but level 4 would be officially the danger zone. I would suggest not letting it get to level 3. It can end up leading to you taking it further. I wanted to lay this out to keep anyone out there who could potentially be heading down a dark path in check. This is important.

Ommllll I know I’m going to get so much hate for this but oh my god I need to get this off my chest. Detroit Become Human is the most sexist/racist/homophonic game I have ever watched a play through of. Y’all only hate North because she is female, there is nothing wrong with her except the fact that she once talked down to a poc android about slavery, but apart from that she is an amazing strong woman and you only hate her because you’re sexist. Kara is constantly put in awful situations simply because she’s female, the basement scene made me shake and cry when I watched it and there was no trigger warning. Don’t get me started on that crusty a*s white lesbian killing android, Caleb or whatever. He is so awful and I wouldn’t mind if he were deactivated. You only like him because he is male and white. There are much better characters out there but you can’t see them because you are racist and sexist. And to make things worse people ship him with his equally boring partner. Don’t @ me This is just my opinion.

I want to start this off by saying I partly agree with you. DBH has some huge sexism and racism issues. The writers did not handle the sensitive subject matter well.

That being said, the fandom is not to blame for this.

People hate North because 1) her romance with Markus canonically took only 3 days to develop, and they feel forced into a relationship and 2) she constantly advocates violence even when you’re trying to go peaceful. Personally, I actually like the way North continues recommending violence but does not act on it. It shows her trust in Markus and I think it adds a lot of depth to her character.

Your point with Kara, I absolutely agree with. She was 100% thrown into bad situations simply because she’s female and cage gets off to that shit apparently. She deserved better.

People do not like Connor only because he’s male and white. They like him because he’s the only character with an interesting character arc, and actual character growth. Perhaps we should be more concerned with a writer/director who only gave an arc to the white male. Not to mention, he’s not the only character people care about. I see plenty of content for Markus and the Jericrew, Kara and her little family, and tons and tons of content for side characters. In the beginning perhaps, it was primarily Connor, but now it seems quite balanced out.

Now, I know you said that this is simply your opinion, and I’m not trying to start an argument or anything. I just wanted to show you my take on it, because I think it’s a little unfair to blame the fandom for canon’s mistakes.

Also, I noticed you mentioned that DBH was one of the most homophobic games you ever watched, but you never brought it up again. I agree that DBH is a little hetero-normative at times, but I’d like to see your take on it.

I hope we can stay civil with this. I’m simply looking for a peaceful discussion from opposite viewpoints.

You do understand killing the lesbian Tracis is player choice, right? You can have them live if you desire. It isn’t Connor’s fault that you can decide whether to kill them or not. That is the point of this entire game. To make choices that change how the characters act and are seen as.

Also, I can assure you that Connor isn’t only liked because he is white & a male.

Connor starts the game as an android that feels nothing. An android with only his mission being the purpose for his existence. By the end of the game, he understands having emotions, and understands that maybe his mission is wrong. Maybe what he is assigned to do is wrong.

Markus starts the game as an android that takes care of an old man, and is a bit philisophical. He questions his purpose, but to no huge extent until after he gets ‘killed’. He ends the game being the leader of the androids, having won a war.

Kara starts the game as a mom and ends the game as a mom.

That is not the character’s faults, that is the writers’s faults.

I love North, honestly, I do, but that isn’t the only reason people dislike her. They dislike her continuously violent disposition to everything. They dislike that her romance with Markus happens within three days. They dislike that she is the only romance option. While I do not agree with some of these things, and in fact have made counter arguments to them in the past, I do not believe at all that people hate her because she is a woman. Maybe some do, but certainly not most of them.

There is a LOT of content for most of the good characters. Like Tam said, maybe in the beginning it was mostly Connor, but seriously not now. The amount of art for Kara & Markus is rather amazing. Again, if there is more art for Connor, it is because he has a true story arc. The other two just don’t have as deep a story arc, and it falls flat. I love Markus & Kara just as much as Connor, and I seriously just don’t get it.

And I would also like to hear how the game is homophobic. Is it because of Simon? Because that isn’t exactly homophobic. David Cage gave his reasoning for not having Simon as a romanceable option even though he was planned to be one. While it is a lackluster reason, it is still a reason that has nothing to do with hating gays. I mean, the lesbian Tracis are still there. And again, I am not advocating for what Cage did. I’d be happy with Simon & North both as lovers, but that isn’t my choice. And it has almost nothing to do with homophobia. If you meant something else, please do tell.

Like Tam, I do not want to fight about this. I just want to have an understanding as to why somebody is so hateful towards a game for things that just don’t make sense. Things that I just don’t understand.

I’m going to start by saying I’m sorry. I played this game fairly quickly and afterwards it I wasn’t thinking straight, I then saw loads of posts about sexism/racism/homophobia and then I kinda lost it. After reading all of your comments I’ve realised that I was so so wrong. Now that I’ve had time to gather my thoughts together I realise now that I was being irrational and most of what I was saying wasn’t even true. I do still stand by most of my comments about Kara but I take back the ones about Connor and North. Also, I realise that the player is actually punished for killing the Tracis, so I retract that comment as well. Again I’m really sorry if I offended anyone I really didn’t mean to. I just wasn’t thinking straight and I thank both of you for explaining this to me. Sorry for being so aggressive as well and thank you for being civil about it, unlike me. It is completely fine! ^^ I understand the mindset you had. If I didn’t get deeper into the game myself, I probably would have similar opinions.

And I do agree with Kara (I didn’t touch it to much on my first post), but she truly is just thrown into a lot of situations. While everyone is, Kara is kind of thrown into situations she can’t fight too often.
