The Clans

Admittedly, I was inspired by most of the descriptions on @redux-iterum 's own differences with each clan but I did my best to do my own spin on things!

Definitely referencing the name changes on Oakclaw and Rookstar though, it fits so much

Left to Right: Tigerclaw, Oakclaw, Rookstar, Dawncloud

Thunderclan

Biggest of the clans, muscular due to their lifestyle

Usually long furred, lots of shedded fur is good for making nests

Tigerclaw isn't the best example but they have long ears

Blocky shapes for the most part, blocky paws, thick brows

Can range from short and long muzzles, usually blocky

Riverclan

Smooth, streamlined fur, thick coated, like otters/penguins, double coats that keep the outside fur wet but inner layer with insulated fur

Round paws, unseen but Riverclan cats more often than not, have webbed paws, thick brows and strong jaws to keep slippery fish in their hold

Also muscular due to their lifestyle, though they're all have more fat as well, to stave off the cold waters!!

Wide muzzles, rounded special nose and ears that close during diving

Windclan

Side note: Rookstar is just white here to better see his fur

They are like unicorns to me, long fur at the bottom legs, head and tip of tail

Big noses for bigger inhalation, also why their noses are like that, peak for running long distances

Sharper paws, pointed, good for digging

Tall and wide ears, perfect for an open field to catch any sound

Thin brows and more silky fur, long legs for good running

Shadowclan

Short sharp ears, pointed muzzles, usually seen with short or flat faces, thin brows

Thick and silky fur to let mud slide right off, sharp paws and sharp bangs

Most Shadowclan cats tend to have bangs over their eyes as they don't rely on them too much actually

That and due to lifestyle, sand/mud attacks to the eyes are a common tactic in the clan, natural coverage is good

Due to being the closest that can pass as a "normal" cat, has lead to them being mostly the clan that deals with diplomacy between rogues, street cats etc.

remembered Untold Tales so as a cooldown I decided to try making quick headshot designs of the leaders and uh accidentally started making up lore because I always found the reputation system where you'd get kicked out from taking too much prey was odd.

So AU where Untold Tales takes place not long after the exile of SkyClan. With prey scarce due to the construction and no other Clan wanting to be driven off or starved out, the four remaining Clans come to the agreement that they'll only feed the cats capable of "earning their keep" (with the exception of kits, of course. There aren't any elders in this game so maybe something happened to them?). Any "able-bodied" warrior who takes more than they give will be exiled and driven from Clan territory. This way, they reason, the Clans will be kept strong by only having the fittest warriors and food rationing won't be as much of an issue.

Haven't played this game in forever so if the leaders had personalities that I erased, then whoops! And can't for the life of me remember if any of them had set genders so they're all nonbinary now.

Skystar of ThunderClan:

Skystar is the current oldest leader, and the one who proposed the food law. Their prefix wasn't originally Sky, but they had it changed during their leader ceremony as a constant reminder of the exiled Clan, and more importantly, the sacrifices the remaining Clans must make.

Proudstar of WindClan:

The exile of SkyClan made WindClan throw themselves deeper into their religion, hoping that an increased spiritual closeness to StarClan would spare them from the same fate. SkyClan must have done something worthy of exile, so WindClan must do everything possible to not make that mistake. Proudstar fully believes in the food law. As they see it, if StarClan disapproved of the law, they would have striken Skystar down.

Rotstar of ShadowClan:

To protect their territory and prey in a much more desperate environment, ShadowClan took to making themselves the most feared Clan in the forest. They acted more hostile at Gatherings and gave themselves names meant to sound scary and invoke imagery of death. Rotstar leans into this as much as they can, and they know that if they disobey the food law, the other Clans will see it as weakness.

Clearstar of RiverClan:

The current youngest leader. Fortunately for RiverClan, their streams supply them with enough fish for the food law to not be a big concern. Because of this, Clearstar sees no reason to fight back against it. If the other Clans want to cull their populations, why should that be RiverClan's problem? It won't ever be an issue for RiverClan… right?

HOW TO JUMALANPELKO CLANGEN

Once I get my clangen working again (My computer really said NUH UH to it after the update and ive been too lazy to try again) i will play Jumalanpelko with it.

I have done it once before. And no i dont mean with the og characters.

If someone wants to try these are the """rules""" of how I played it (feel free to do whatever you want tho):

-No leader/if there is a leader they only have one life (just kill the bitch 8 times)

-no healer/Suncat is the only healer (it is more fun if suncat is warrior tho) we are here living on the edge

-When a suncat is around a year old you kill them and choose a kitten to be the next suncat.

-the new suncat has to still have the kitten sprite to be fit to be a suncat (if you want to you can change this up. Like maybe the apprentices can also become suncats but they wont live to be a year old? Idk up to you)

-it is up to you how you want the Suneve to happen. Like if you want it to be super strict (aka suncat is 1 year and there are no kittens? Cult is dead, game over) you can! If you dont want to, then dont!

-If you want to, you can give rules to how long a suncat can live depending on their sex and fur color (like maybe full sun furred female can live 12 moons, partly sun furred female 11, sun furred male 9... ect. It is up to you)

-Guard is chosen as a kitten and trained by one of the senior guards

-Guard is made suncat's mentor OR you just put them always on the same patrol (you can choose what kinda of rules you want to give for patrols. Can suncats go for patrols? Do you have to proceed? Up to you!)

-You can give cats nicknames! It is not easy without the names (i didnt have names and i was very much going WHO???? the whole game)

-If you want you can make one cat and make them Her. Just make it so that She cant have kittens (or maybe you want She kittens i dont know you) and code Her back to life every time She dies lmao. I didnt do this but it would be funny.

EDIT: you might want to let suncats live 2 years or more, it can become pretty annoying to change the suncat every few moons

Like i said, feel free to do whatever you want!

I might make another account for this challenge, so far heres the cast.

I think in this universe the barn burns down and the previous suncat takes them out to a new home during suneve with her last energy before the next suncat was chosen during moon 0.

Previous suncat was Senior Guard Fern's biological sister and Suncat, and taught the senior guards knowledge of medicine so the next Suncat could take her place and give healing paw to those in need.

Skyfall: Timeline of Thegns — The Founding

I’ll expand on this later, but in Skyfall, the leader is now called an Thegn, a title derived from the Old/Middle English.

Brief notes:

THUNDERSHIRE: Founded by Thunder, who is known as Roaring Thunder by most modern shire cats. The first 3 thegns were all alive in the time of the Roaring Thunder. Cherryheart is the first thegn of any clowder to use a combined name rather than a separated one.

SHADOWSHIRE: Founded by Tall Shadow. The first 3 thegn were alive during the era of Tall Shadow. Hollythorn is Hollystar from COTC.

RIVERSHIRE: Founded by River Ripple. The first 2 thegns were alive during the time of the founding of the shire. The second leader, Night, is more commonly known as Dark Night by modern clowder cats. Dove Whisker is Dovestar, a leader mentioned by Leafpool in COTC. Ember Glow is Emberstar from COTC.

WINDSHIRE: Founded by Wind Runner. The first 2 thegns were alive during the time of the founding. Dust Fur is Duststar from COTC.

SKYSHIRE: Founded by Clear Sky. The first 3 thegns were alive at the time of the founding.

Dawn Cats!

A feline species I made up, they're the Ancients (ancient tribe) from Jayfeather's time travels!

Big, powerful cats, living around the Lake Territories in three separete grups (tribes). It wasn't clearly stated in the books if the grup Jay meet and traveld with to the Mountains was only one Tribe or all of them (or at least I don't remember that 😅), but I hedcanon that the Dawn Cats were already at the dusk of their society during po3. After a series of epidemies and internal conflicts, their numbers declined drasticly, and their Healers desided to mearge into one grup. The Twolegs showing up at the Lake was only a final nail in the coffin, and made the already existing thoughts about leaving their home more urgent. After that, you know the drill, Jay's Wing/Feather shows up, the Tribe votes go or stay and they travel to the Mountains. Forming the grup known as the Ancient Tribe and later giving rise to Tribe of Rushing Water, ThunderClan, ShadowClan, WindClan, RiverClan and SkyClan.

Geneticly they're sitting somwhere at the base of the F. catus (and cousins) family tree (the wildcats/felis silvestris) Closer to the ancient wildcats then our domestic goofballs, but still able to hybridize and have fertile offspring. They're the resoult of an alternative timline in which the ancient humans who crossed the Bering Strait and later went to become the Native Americans, brought their own primitive wildcats companions with them (assuming they had any). Those kitties later diverged into many other subspecies, but nearly all of them faced extinction, leaving only a couple still standing. The original Dawn Cats went extinct through hybridization with domestic cats, forming the Clans. The closest (geneticly speaking), and the last still alive in the u.s subspieces of the Dawn Cats are the Tribe of Rushing Water (still clasified as critically endangered though). The other desendants of the 'first kitties' are the Sisters (I'll talk about it in another post) also clasified as CR, and the Wildcats, that are still just your typical Felis silvestris grampia, but now living in North America. Becouse Erins writed Ivypool's Heart already after I made the USwarrior catsAU. (well, I have to work with what they gave me 🤣).

It's more like a guideline I'll loosely base my new batch of designs off on, then anything super serious, I don't like restricting myself too much when drawing XD.

I'm planning on dropping a bigger post where I'll cover Dawn Cats history and culture in greater detail, so stay tuned!

disclaimer: I know that people who crossed the Bering Strait were hunter-gatherers and didn't really needed cats, but this addition would just be cute and help me ground my rewrite a lot :D

Clan body type studies ft. their most common pelt colors/patterns!

Skyclan don’t really have a more common pelt type due to being more diverse. The inclusion of daylight warriors and many years of being disbanded diluted many pure Skyclan traits. Any cats that are descended from old Skyclan though will have the longer hind legs and higher rear, though the percentage of Skyclan blood will determine how dramatic these traits are.

Windclan have mostly lighter colored pelts and are more likely to be spotted than their counterparts in other clans. They typically lack a harsh break on their muzzle and have large ears and small paws. Their tails are thin and whip-like.

Shadowclan are mostly solid colors leaning more towards the darker and desaturated colors. They have large eyes and ears to help them hunt better in their dark territory as well was large paws to keep them from sinking too far into the mud. They also typically have longer whiskers compared to other clans to help them travel in the dark. Though many of the cats still contain typical Shadowclan traits, their intake of Bloodclan cats and kittypets allowed for a few extreme outliers (Needletail) to crop up.

Thunderclan have more saturated and bright colors with tabbies taking the top spot in terms of commonality. Thunderclan cats are unique in that they have a very thick coat in the winter that sheds drastically in the summer, making many look like completely different cats. They are also typically the largest cats in the clans. Like Shadowclan many pure Thunderclan traits are diluted as the years go on due to kittypet intake.

Riverclan are typically muted in their colors, with grays and silvers in solids and the classic tabby pattern taking the top rank. Their fur is thick, but typically not long as fur too long can become waterlogged and hinder swimming. Their ears are smaller to keep the water out and their thick tail acts as a rudder in the water. They are also the only clan with webbed toes.

SkyClan idea: What if Skyclan cats lived in the treetops, so much so that when they were on the forest ground they walked weird like a spider monkey. Just picture it! Skyclan is losing their territory, their trees that they leaped through, they got to the gathering at fourtrees and beg the other Clans for help, surely ThunderClan could spare some trees, after all their founders were kin. And I thought it be fun if they had a subrank too! Ground owls, they're cats who are more bulky, they protect the clan from foxes and other tree climbing predators.
