โGood. Again.โ Your voice was soft and kind as you walked around the younglings in the room. The little kids seemed to beam at your compliment, but stayed focused nonetheless, their grip on their lightsabers not faltering.
It was a beautiful day. The warm rays of the sun were illuminating the training room, making the golden accents on the walls and ground shine and reflect on your face and the younglingsโ expression. Your eyes softened as you looked at them, standing in front of them. They executed the kata you showed them almost perfectly again, despite their young age. They will grow to be good Jedi.
Looking at the younglings continuing to train, your thoughts drifted to the past few years. The war was finally over, after all the suffering and the deaths. Palpatine's terrible plot and his identity had been discovered, and he was killed during a bloody battle between him, the Jedi and the clones. A new Republic had been established, and the Senate had decided to put Bail Organa at the head of the Republic. The galaxy slowly recovered from the wounds the war left, and the Republic and Separatists finally had managed to sign a peace treaty.
Someone calling out your name pulled you out from your thoughts, and you turned to look at the person who addressed you. Zarina, your former Padawan, who had been knighted a few months after the war.
โWhat is it?โ You smiled at her, gesturing to the younglings in front of you that the lesson was over. They happily scurried off, after saluting you and Zarina.
โSomeone wants to see you.โ Zarina replied, and you couldn't miss the teasing lilt in her voice, and you knew immediately about whom she was talking about.
She guided you through the lively hallways of the Temple, where younglings were running after each other, laughing and joking. Some younger Padawans were playing with them too, as the older ones were looking at them fondly, watching them play. The grim atmosphere the war brought was gone now, replaced with that lightness that peace brought.
You found Fox standing outside of the Temple. You took some time to look at him. The man was still the Commander of the Coruscant Guard, but he seemed much more at ease and relaxed. Working under Organa was like an honor to him, and for the first time in his life, Fox liked his job. And it showed. He wasn't as tense as he used to, actually getting some sleep and days off. He was eating better, and overall taking more care of himself. But Fox was Fox, and he was still that strict man who led his Guard with an iron grip, expecting only the best from his men. It just wasn't fueled by his fear of Palpatine hurting his brothers if they did the smallest misstep. Now, it was only because he believed that Organa deserved nothing but excellence.
But there was still that darker glint in his eyes, that pain and trauma that still lingered within him, and the nightmares that plagued his sleep. He was healing, slowly and surely, but the wounds he carried weren't ones to close easily. You shook your head. For now, you just wanted to focus on him, on how much better he seemed to be.
Fox wasn't wearing his armor, as he was on a day off. Instead, he was wearing a comfortable set of clothes that you gifted him a few years ago. The sun was making his skin gently glisten, his hair shining in the light as a light breeze was making his curls slightly float around his face. The clothes he wore seemed to emphasize his strong body, and to you, he never looked more handsome than he did now.
You almost didn't register that Zarina left your side to go back to the Temple, as Fox approached you, greeting you with one of those warm hugs that only he seemed to have the secret of. โHow are you doing, cyare?โ His gentle voice caressed your ear, his lips leaving a kiss there.
You sighed, relaxing against him, your arms wrapping around his waist. โMhm. Good, you?โ You replied in his shoulder, letting out a soft sigh. โYou wanted to see me?โ You whispered, as you felt him nod against you.
โYes, actually.โ He pulled back, but kept you close to him, his finger gently brushing your cheek. โThere's some matters I'd like to discuss with you, butโฆโ
He leaned towards you again, his nose gently nudging yours, and you closed your eyes at the soft touch. โBut first, let me have this.โ He murmured, before his lips found yours in a deep but unhurried kiss. You hummed, leaning against his chest, knowing he would hold you tight. He always did. His embrace was strong and protective as you melted against him, and you could feel the muscles in his arms ripple against you as he tightened his grip.
Fox pulled back, just enough to look down at you, his eyes filled with the glint he always had whenever he gazed at you. Those soft and fond eyes but firm. Your hand went to his cheek, caressing the soft skin scattered with white scars. He gave you a huff, before melting into your touch, the stern demeanor almost completely fading the second your skin touched his.
โYou should stop thinking about work, love.โ You whispered, your hand still resting on his chest drawing soft circles. โGet some rest instead. You need it.โ
โMhm. Thereโs so much that needs to be done. It's not easy rebuilding the-โ
His words were muffled by the kiss you left on his lips. He sighed against your mouth, begrudgingly accepting your touch and concern. Fox never seemed to listen to anyone when it came to his own well-being. Just to you. After all, his heart was yours.
โI don't deserve youโฆโ He whispered softly against your lips, his eyes still closed, his voice low and vulnerable. His fingers clenched, fisting your clothes. He felt weak and needy. He just wanted a good hug, a kiss on his forehead, and the gentle praises you always offered him. But he was too prideful and stubborn to admit it out loud. He craved the reassurance more than he wanted to admit it, but didn't feel like he was worthy of it. But he was selfish like that. He wanted you, and he would have you.
โDon't say that, Fox.โ You murmured as he hid his face in the crook of your neck. โYou deserve the whole world, you know?โ You gently caressed his curls, kissing his head.
โMhmโฆ.โ He just mumbled, seemingly not convinced. โCyare, I-โ
โShh.โ You gently shushed him. โLet's get you home.โ
Fox found himself sitting between your legs, his back to your chest as you held him close. He rarely allowed himself to be that vulnerable, but sometimes he just wanted you to spoon him and play with his hair. He relaxed against you when you gently brushed his curls, his eyes closing as his hands rested on your knees.
โThat feels good, meshโla.โ He muttered, a shiver running down his spine as the brush caressed the sensitive skin on the back of his neck. โDon't stop.โ He added, his tone sounding commanding even in his state.
You stayed like that for what felt like hours, you taking care of your grumpy Commander and him, melting into your affections and secretly craving more.
โI love you, Fox.โ You whispered, putting the brush down to hold him, leaving a soft kiss on his shoulder.
He shifted in your arms, turning around to face you, his eyes looking up at you, filled with nothing but love and longing. He felt the safest when he was in your arms like that, taken care of and seen. He gave you a little smile, his hands squeezing your waist. Fox wasn't a man of many words, but his actions always spoke louder. You smiled when he kissed the tip of your nose. He always was soft and affectionate when you managed to get him to lower his guard.
Your hands went to cup his face, and your lips gently caressed his forehead, before you pressed a firm but tender kiss on that spot he loved to have kissed so much. You let out a soft chuckle, feeling him cling to you, his face burying in the crook of your neck. You heard a muffled โI love you tooโ coming from him, his voice low and almost annoyed. Not at you, though. Never at you.
โYou're too good for me, cyare.โ You heard him mumble, his face pressing harder against you. He sighed. He was stubborn, closed-off, hard around the edges, but you were so loving and patient with him, always handling him tenderly, like he was something precious and fragile. He would have hated it, if it didn't warm up his lonely heart and fill his need for a genuine connection. You gave him everything he never thought he craved, and he was slightly embarrassed to admit it, but that made him slightly more pliable to you. Heโd do anything you asked of him. It felt almost embarrassing to him how much he adored you, even if he more than often thought you deserved more than him.
But those thoughts often melted easily when he was that close to you, safely tucked in your arms, with your voice whispering in his ear how much you loved him and needed him. Heโd often huff and deny your words, mostly out of spite, and because he wanted more reassurance and didn't know how to clearly ask for it. Fox could hear your voice whispering sweet words in his ear, but he was only half listening, focusing on the sound of your heartbeat underneath his ear, your fingers carding through his hair and those forehead kisses you gave him that he loved so much.
You gently rubbed his back, feeling him melt and hold onto you tighter than necessary. You closed your eyes, your nose burying in his hair, and you inhaled the smell of your shampoo in his curls. His breath eased, his chest now slowly heaving and you knew he felt asleep like that, against you, when he was the safest.
โSleep, my love.โ You whispered softly. โIโll be there when you wake up. I love you.โ

He tells his baby brother Rex first who is supportive and then with Rexs support he tells the rest of his command batch brothers like Wolfffe, Fox etc and they dont take it so well. They argue with him for being so reckless etc but eventually support hiim cos he is their brother after all. maybe some scenes of how he copes when hes away from you and deployed and when hes back your bump just gets bigger everytime. maybe finding out the gender, buying baby clothes or maybe making the babys room and stuff?

By the time Cody returned to Coruscant, exhaustion had settled into his bones in a way bacta couldn't fix. Three weeks of fighting Seppies had left him with bruises beneath his armour and a weariness that felt deeper than physical. Still, the moment he stepped into the apartment he shared with you, all thoughts of battle faded.
Home. Maker, he'd missed home, and he'd missed you.
He barely had enough time to put his bag down before you wrapped your arms around him. Cody immediately relaxed, burying his face in your hair and breathing deeply.
"There you are," he murmured softly.
"I missed you."
His smile widened. "I missed you too."
Normally, the two of you would spend the first hour simply existing together. Talking, eating, laughing, making up for lost time. But tonight felt different. You were nervous. Cody noticed immediately. Years of command had taught him to read expressions and body language faster than words.
"You okay, sweetheart?" he asked quietly.
You smiled, but it didn't reach your eyes. "Can you sit down with me?"
That was enough to make his heart sink. He'd seen that expression before. Not on you, though, on troopers who had terrible news to deliver. Immediately, worst-case scenarios began running through his head. Were you hurt? Were you sick? Had something happened while he'd been gone?
The two of you settled on the couch, and Cody noticed how tightly you were holding his hand. "Talk to me," he said gently.
You took a shaky breath. "Promise you won't panic."
"I'm already panicking."
That earned a small laugh. Good. At least you were laughing.
"Cody, I'm pregnant."
He wasn't sure he'd heard correctly. "What?"
Tears immediately sprang to your eyes. "I'm sorry."
His brows furrowed. "Sorry?"
"I know the timing is awful and you're deployed all the time, and we're in the middle of a war, and maybe this changes everything andโ"
"Hey."
His voice softened instantly. "Hey, look at me."
You did. And the fear in your eyes nearly broke his heart.
"You're pregnant?"
You nodded nervously. "Yeah."
And suddenly Commander Cody, leader of the 212th, veteran of countless campaigns, and respected by thousands of men, looked completely overwhelmed. Not upset or angry, but truly overwhelmed. Because maker, he was going to be a father.
His eyes widened. "Really?"
You laughed weakly through your tears. "Really."
The smile that spread across his face was unlike anything you'd ever seen. Pure wonder, pure joy. "You mean," he whispered. "We're having a baby?"
Now you were crying for an entirely different reason. "Yes."
His own eyes immediately became suspiciously bright, and then he laughed. Not because it was funny, but because he simply didn't know what else to do with all the happiness threatening to burst out of him.
He grabbed your face gently. "A baby."
You laughed tearfully. "A baby."
"Our baby."
The smile on his face became softer. "Our little one."
"Cody?"
"Hm?"
"You aren't upset?"
His expression changed immediately. "No." He said it so firmly that your breath caught. "Never."
"Butโ"
"No."
He cupped your face carefully. "Am I terrified? Absolutely."
That made you laugh. "But upset?" His forehead rested against yours. "Never."
His smile wobbled. "I love you, and I already love this little one."
Your expression softened. "Cody."
"We'll figure it out." His voice became quiet. "We always do."
You wrapped your arms around him, and for a long time, neither of you spoke. You simply held each other while reality slowly settled around you.
A baby. Not ideal, not planned, but loved. Already so loved.
Rex nearly dropped his caf. "Cody." He groaned, his face in his hands. "You got your girl pregnant."
Cody rubbed the back of his neck. "Apparently."
"Apparently?"
Rex looked personally betrayed. "Apparently?" He groaned again. "How far along is she?" Rex demanded.
"Twelve weeks."
"Twelve weeks?!"
Cody winced. "We wanted to make sure everything was alright first."
Rex sat heavily in his chair. His brother, his big brother, was having a child.
His expression slowly shifted from disbelief to absolute wonder. "A baby?"
Cody smiled. "Yeah."
Rex blinked. Then suddenly stood and threw his arms around him.
The commander nearly stumbled. "You idiot."
Rex's voice cracked slightly. "A baby."
Cody laughed. "Easy."
"I'm gonna be an uncle."
"You are."
"I'm too young to be an uncle."
"No, you're not."
"I'm absolutely spoiling this kid." Rex pointed dramatically. "And don't even think about trying to stop me."
Rexโs expression softened. "You happy?"
Cody smiled. "So happy."
"And she's happy?"
"Very."
Rex nodded. Then his face became serious. "You need anything, you ask."
"Rex."
"I mean it."
The captain's voice was unwavering. "Credits, food, babysitting. Doesn't matter." His smile returned. "That kid's family." His eyes softened. "And so are you."
Emotion unexpectedly caught in Cody's throat. "Thanks, vod."
Wolffe's eye nearly bulged out of his head, Fox simply stared, and Bly looked like someone had shot him.
"You did what?" Bly asked weakly.
"Were you dropped on your head as a cadet?" Wolffe exploded.
Cody blinked. "What?"
Fox pinched the bridge of his nose. "Oh, this is unbelievable."
"Cody!" Bly barked.
"What?"
"You know there are ways to prevent this!"
"I know!"
"Clearly not!"
Wolffe threw his hands in the air. "In the middle of a war?"
Cody grimaced. "It wasn't exactly scheduled!"
Fox looked offended on behalf of the Republic itself. "Did you use protection?"
Cody glared at his brother. "Iโm not answering that."
"That's a no, then."
"Maker above."
Wolffe was pacing now. "You absolute di'kut."
"I know."
"Do you?"
"Yes!"
Bly looked scandalised. "What were you thinking?"
"I wasn't!"
"Clearly!"
Fox groaned. "This is exactly what happens when people are happy."
"What are you even talking about?"
"They make reckless decisions."
"Fox-"
"I'm right."
Cody pointed at him. "No, you're insane."
"No, you're insane."
Wolffe rounded on him. "What if something happens to you?"
The room fell silent, and suddenly Cody understood. Underneath the yelling, underneath the frustration. They were scared. Not angry, scared. Scared for him, scared for you, scared for the child. Scared because war had taken too much already.
Fox's voice became quieter. "Are they healthy?"
Cody's expression softened. "Yeah."
"And she's happy?"
"Very."
Bly exhaled. "The baby's alright?"
"So far."
Then Wolffe sighed. A tired sigh. "I still think you're an idiot."
"Fair."
Fox crossed his arms. "Reckless."
"Probably."
Bly shook his head. "You gave us a heart attack."
"Sorry."
Then suddenly Bly stepped forward and hugged him. Hard. "Stupid vod."
Fox looked offended. "We're hugging?"

Eventually, all four of them ended up tangled together in an awkward mess of armour and complaints. Fox muttered the entire time. "This is ridiculous."

Cody looked up. Rex stood in the doorway, holding two mugs of caf. The captain sat beside him and handed one over. "Thinking about them again?" Rex asked.
Cody chuckled softly. "Always."
The messages became sacred. No matter how exhausted he was, no matter how late the hour, Cody always sent one. Sometimes they were long, sometimes short. But never missed.
"Sweetheart, it's me." His tired voice crackled through the holoprojector. "We secured the village. Everyone's alright.โ He pauses. "I miss you. Tell the little one his dad says hello."
Sometimes he spoke directly to the baby. "Hey, little trooper. Your mother says you kick a lot.โ He laughs. โCan't imagine where you got that from." Another laugh. "I'm sorry I can't be there right now. But I'm coming home."
By the sixth month, even Wolffe had become invested, though he'd deny it under torture.
"She's eating enough?"
"Yes."
"Sleeping?"
"Yes."
"Doctor appointments?"
"Yes."
"Cody."
"What?"
"Are you sure?"

Fox was worse. Not outwardly, but every time Cody returned to Coruscant, somehow supplies appeared. Extra blankets, food, medical vouchers, and absolutely no explanation.
Until one evening, Cody cornered him. "Fox."
"What?"
"Did you buy us a stroller?"
"No."
Cody crossed his arms. "Fox."
Fox sighed, looking sheepish. "Possibly."

Near the beginning of the sixth month, Cody finally came home after nearly eight weeks away. The moment the apartment door opened, you nearly tackled him. He laughed breathlessly, wrapping his arms around you and burying his face against your neck.
He held you for several moments before blinking. "You've got that smile."
"What smile?"
"That smile."
You grinned. "No, I don't."
Cody raised his eyebrows.ย
"Nope."
His eyes narrowed. "What did you do?"
You laughed. "Nothing."
"Sweetheart."
"Sit down."
Immediately suspicious, Cody obeyed, and then you handed him a small gift box.
He frowned. "What is this?"
"Open it."
Slowly, he lifted the lid and froze. Inside rested tiny blue socks. For several seconds, Commander Cody simply stared.
Then his eyes widened. He looked up so quickly he nearly gave himself whiplash. "Blue?"
Tears sparkled in your eyes. "Blue."
"A boy?"
You nodded. "A son."
The box hit the floor. Cody burst into tears, actual tears.
Laughing helplessly as he wrapped you in his arms. "A son." His voice cracked. "We're having a son."
You laughed through your own tears. "We are."
A little boy. His little boy. Cody's hand immediately moved to your stomach, and his smile transformed into something so soft and full of wonder that your heart nearly melted. "Hi, son."
A kick. Cody gasped. "No." Another, and suddenly the commander looked utterly delighted. "He knows me."
You burst out laughing. "He kicked."
"He knows me."
"Cody."
"He does."
You laughed harder. "Cody."
"He loves me already."
Baby shopping proved to be unexpectedly emotional. Mostly because Commander Cody experienced a complete crisis.
"Cyare."
"What?"
"He can't wear this."
You blinked. "What?"
"It's too small."
You held up the tiny onesie. "It's newborn size."
"It's tiny."
"Yes, this is how small heโll be when he's born."
"He'll fit in one arm."
"That's generally how babies work."
"But look at him."
"There isn't a him yet."
"Future him."
Twenty minutes later, he was carefully choosing blankets, stuffed toys, and books, and enough orange clothing to outfit an entire nursery.
"You know other colours exist."
"Nope."
"Cody."
You laughed. "Our son is going to look like a member of the 212th."
"As he should."
The nursery slowly became his favorite room. It started with paint, then furniture, then arguments.
"Cody, that's crooked."
"It's not crooked."
"It is."
"It isn't."
"It absolutely is."
He closed his eyes "It's not."
"It's crooked."
Eventually, Rex showed up and immediately took your side. "It's crooked."
Traitor.
Bly arrived carrying toys, and Wolffe arrived carrying baby proof equipment, and Fox arrived pretending he absolutely wasn't participating.
"I was in the area."
By evening, the apartment looked like a military operation. Wolffe inspected corners, Rex assembled furniture badly, Bly sang ridiculous songs, and Fox silently organized everything because apparently no one else knew how.
And Cody stood in the doorway. Watching, listening, smiling. His brothers, his family, his son, his home.
The war still existed, people were still dying. Tomorrow he might receive new orders, or tomorrow he might leave again.
But tonight, there was laughter, there was paint on his clothes, there were tiny clothes folded neatly in drawers. Tonight, there was hope.
Later, after everyone finally left and the apartment fell quiet, Cody sat down in the rocking chair beside the crib. You curled up against him immediately, and together you simply sat there.
His hand rested over yours on your stomach and suddenly, kick.
His eyes immediately softened. "Strong little guy."
"He gets that from you."
"Nah."
You laughed. "Cody, you kick and punch battle droids."
Cody laughed now. "And his stubbornness?"
"Definitely me."
Outside the window, Coruscant glittered beneath the stars. Inside, the nursery glowed warmly, and Commander Cody, soldier, leader, brother, held the woman he loved and felt his son moving beneath his hand.
For the first time in his life, he wasn't dreaming about victories. He was dreaming about bedtime stories, about tiny hands wrapped around his finger, about first words, about family dinners, about growing old.
Dreams he'd never allowed himself before.
And as another tiny kick greeted his hand, Cody smiled that beautiful, gentle smile reserved only for you. "I can't wait to meet you, little man."
His voice became quiet. "And I promise," Emotion caught in his throat. "I'm going to spend the rest of my life making sure you know how loved you are."
And for just a little while, the Clone Wars felt very far away.

Honestly really enjoys domesticity with you, like it was one of the first things he adjusted to really well when you first got together. Just waking up together, going about your daily routines, doing totally boring everyday tasksโฆhe genuinely loves it
Likes hearing you talk about completely mundane parts of your day because those ordinary details feel weirdly important to him. It's like every normal, boring thing is proof you're living a life outside of war, that's he's living that with you to whatever capacity he can, and he treasures that
Honestly he's kinda sentimental about routines. Like if the two of you develop some little habit like always saying goodbye the same way, always getting the same caf on certain mornings, always sharing a dessert when you go out, stuff like that, he gets really emotionally attached to it just because it's something special to you two
Every now and then he'll have moments where domestic life catches him off guard. You'll be doing something totally ordinary like folding laundry or watering plants or something and he'll just stop and stare for a second. Fox slammed the panel with his fist, cursing the door to his office for not opening any faster. These past few weeks had been one thing after another โ riots on the lower levels, assassination threats on Senators, and just stupid petty crime. Palpatine had the nerve to question Foxโs leadership, but what more could he do? His men are stretched thin, working overtime every single day of the week with no extra resources being offered.
Fox canโt even remember the last time he slept โ let alone eaten a proper meal. He hears your chiding words in his head about taking better care of himself, and now he feels a new wave of tension rush over him.
He hasnโt seen you in almost two weeks. Not only has he been on a tight leash led by Palpatine, but the Senate has had a busy past few weeks as well. Fox has had the privilege of listening to your private rants about the designation of resources โ well, lack thereof โ especially those concerning neutral planets requesting aid.
Your kindness is what Fox admired most about you. At first, Fox saw it as a weakness. The way you viewed the world was naive to him, but really you just had hope; something Fox had never had until you. You see the good in everyone, including him.
Youโre one of the reasons he keeps pushing himself. He wants to make this Maker forsaken planet better for you, which is why he has put up with Palpatine for so long. Yes, Fox is programmed to be a good soldier, but sometimes he likes to think about the Senate building crumpling down on that shabuir.
When Fox finally snaps out of his thoughts, he realizes he has been staring at the data pad without a single ounce of information being taken in. He rubs his eyes and lets out a sigh.
The mountain of work will still be here tomorrow, he tells himself.
He grabs his helmet and walks out of his office to find Thorn at his own desk.
โYouโre still here,โ Fox comments rather than questions.
โSo are you,โ Thorn leans back in his chair with a tired smirk on his face.
โโM leaving,โ Fox grumbles.
โOh? Finally get some sleep?โ Thorn chuckles, knowing very well that the GAR issued cots is not where Fox is heading. Fox has never and will never speak a word about you to his men, but the men were still able to reach their own conclusions.
Fox has a slight squint in his eyes when he turns his head towards Thorn.
โโM checking on a few things,โ Fox says with a tone that says โdonโt push itโ.
โOf course. Just remember you need to be back at 0800 hours,โ Thorn calls out to Fox whoโs already walking out the doors of the headquarters. Fox is at least nice enough to give Thorn a wave of acknowledgement.
When Fox arrives at your apartment, he can hear whatever music you have playing through the door, and he knows you donโt hear him when he unlocks the door with the key you gave him. He quickly finds you in the kitchen with your back turned to him as youโre stirring something in a bowl, swaying your hips to the music.
Fox wants nothing more than to wrap his arms around you, but instead he takes a moment to watch you. The sight of you dressed in your comfy clothing makes a warmth spread in Foxโs chest. The domesticity of it all is something he longs for, wishing he could come home to this every night.
โMeshโla,โ he calls out to you. You let out a shriek and whip around, throwing the spoon square at his chest. Obviously the dough covered spoon does no damage against his armor, which makes him chuckle.
โFox!โ You exclaim not even two seconds later before running over and throwing yourself at him. He catches you in his arms and squeezes you as if to feel your through the hard plastoid. He leans his head down to murmur in your ear, โNice aim. I see my lessons have paid off.โ
He feels the movement of your body shaking with laughter before hearing the muffled sound of your giggles.
โYouโre lucky it was just a spoon,โ you shoot back. You hear him hum in response as he pulls back to look at you closely. The first thing he looks at is your eyes. The few times he was able to catch a bit of sleep, his dreams were filled with your eyes, but itโs nothing compared to the real thing. Suddenly, he feels a bit of that tension release from his shoulders because just being near you is enough to make him feel better.
โFox,โ you murmur, as you bring your hand up to the side of his face. He doesnโt hesitate to nuzzle into your palm before placing a kiss onto it.
โIโve missed you,โ you whisper, which causes a squeeze in his chest. No words could describe how much he has missed you, so he settles on returning the sentiment with a soft kiss on your lips. One that tells you that heโs here.
When you break the kiss, he rests his forehead on yours. Both of you are content in staying in each otherโs embrace, but eventually you break the silence.
โGo take a shower, and Iโll have a meal ready for you,โ you say, giving him a slight push in the direction of the fresher.
โYou saying I stink?โ Fox chuckles.
โI didnโt say that, but if the shoe fits,โ you turn back to the bowl with the ingredients you were preparing.
โYou wound me, meshโla,โ Fox dramatically sighs before heading to the fresher.
Fox takes his time in the shower, trying to scrub the stress of the last two weeks off of him. He feels his heart skip when he notices freshly stocked soap in a scent that he said smelt good in passing once.
You always took good care of him. Whether or not he deserved it is still a debate in his head, but he knows at least that he wonโt be letting you go anytime soon.
He doesnโt stay too long in the shower though. As much as the warm spray of the shower feels good on his overused muscles, he wants to spend as much time with you.
When he walks back out to the kitchen, youโre setting two dishes on a table.
โCan I help with anything?โ Fox asks.
โNo. You just sit,โ you answer, as you turn back to the food. Fox sits and watches you move around the kitchen, which makes him another wave of warmth wash over him. Itโs not long before youโre serving him and yourself, and he doesnโt realize how hungry he is until he takes his first bite. He lets out a low hum, making you smile.
โGood?โ You ask, already knowing the answer.
โBest thing Iโve ever had,โ he says with a tired smile.
โI wouldnโt go that far,โ you shyly look down at your plate. Foxโs hand reaches for yours across the table, making you find his gaze again.
โI would,โ he says softly, as his thumb strokes your knuckles.
The dinner passes with light conversation with neither of you bringing up work. Instead, you tell him funny stories of things you saw or people you met, but the smile on his face isnโt one of amusement, even if your stories do get a snort from him every now and then. The smile on his face is one of contentment because heโs here with you.
When dinner is over, he tells you heโll do the dishes, which of course you argue with him about. You eventually win, but that doesnโt stop Fox from clinging on you from behind the entire time.
โFox,โ you playfully scold when you feel him start to pepper kisses wherever he can reach.
โShouldโve let me do the dishes if you didnโt want the distraction,โ he teases.
โNo, Iโm quite happy with this distraction,โ you sigh, letting yourself lean a bit more into him.
Eventually, you two end up in the bedroom with Fox laying on top of you. His arms are wrapped securely around you, as if trying to make sure you wonโt disappear. One of your hands is resting on his neck, while the other is in his hair.
