Clan Building // fire shows
yujleda people are known for their fire shows, there’s not a gathering that goes on in yujleda that doesn’t involve a fire performance. these shows are performed only by yujleda born people who’ve trained for such shows. the performances themselves include pole twirling, pole spinning, fire breathing, fire eating and the art of dancing with the flames. the fire is of course yujleda’s signature green flame and loud drums are used to set the tone.
never has a performance taken place in another clan’s territory but shows have been done in polis. usually only a few shows take place a year but with the reign of a yujleda commander the art is considered much more popular. that said while the other clans are more than welcome to enjoy the art they are not allowed to participate in the show.
the shows performed after a war is won are arguably the loudest and most chaotic. there’s no dancing involved but sacrifices often take place. prisoners of war are burned during the show as a sign that war is truly over and the prisoners serve no purpose anymore. the drums are so loud that you could hear the prisoners screaming no louder than you could hear the person next to you.
Character // monty grounder verse
monty grew up as a yujleda farmer to two loving parents and a friend who was closer to a brother, jasper. he wasn’t warrior by any stretch, not that he couldn’t fight at all; he could but monty never believed in all this killing. he had killed before though, it was almost unheard of for a grounder to have no blood on their hands.
as an adult monty lived a simple lifestyle. he was a farmer but lived in the village he’d grown up in rather than a farm of his own. he was also many grounders go to man for extracurricular medicine use if you know what I mean.
Clan Building // funerals
death in any clan is held with grace and respect. yujleda people believe it’s best not to burn or bury the bodies but to return them to the swamps, you’d never see yujleda people willingly leaving their dead on the battle field or anywhere else.
the bodies are often wrapped in roots and plants before they are brought to a certain swamp on the outskirts of yujleda territory. it’s pretty disturbing to see this place but yujleda people are desensitised to it. where outsiders see bodies they see beauty.
when a yujleda commander dies they are wrapped in roots and plants in the throne room where the natblida’s will prey on them. after this they are sent back to yujleda and returned to the swamp and to their people, green smoke signals spread the word.
Quote // yujleda beliefs
we search for the stillness within the tree ,
the silence within the root
Moodboard // creepy swamp grounders
Clan Building // mecha station
monty eventually becomes a leader of sorts at mecha station, while kane remained chancellor he sent people to lead each station as he couldn’t be everywhere at once. monty made a good leader and was well liked by mecha station citizens and the grounders.
harper of course joined him and gave birth to their son jordan a few years later, two years after jordan was born harper gave birth to a daughter, zoe, named for monroe. they only really saw the rest of their friends at grounder events and meetings.
despite living among them and being in positions of leadership their interactions with the grounders were few and in between. the relationship between skaikru and yujleda was one of the most peaceful and easily maintained, this left monty with a lot of time to do what he loved; farm.
Character // hope
well the sky people for the most part became grounder-like overtime, a grounder from yujleda went the other way. hope was so fascinated by skaikru that she almost mirrored octavia’s reaction to the grounders. eventually Hope even lived with them in their ship, while yujleda had peace with mecha station they weren’t overly happy about this. many grounders refused to speak to her, some considered her a traitor, especially when she started using a gun. hell she even looked like them and was starting to sound like them.
Clan Building // mecha station
after the ark came down mecha station landed in yujleda territory surviving the fall by landing deep in the wetlands. while the wetlands kept them alive they didn’t leave them with a convenient place to live, luckily they made peace with yujleda rather quickly. a flamekeeper was the first one to the landing zone and stopped any grounders from killing them or destroying the ship as it had a little to much in common with becca’s past, though it helped that the yujleda people hadn’t heard much about the sky people other than the fact that a ship fell from the sky.
yujleda had always been great metal workers and were known among the grounders for rebuilding old boats, buildings and whatever else but with the help of mecha station they really evolved their skills. they even taught skaikru their tricks when it came to rebuilding their boats, something they’d never even considered teaching the other grounder clans. it came at a price though, mecha and yujleda quickly became the strongest alliance even between grounder clans themselves.
Character // raven grounder verse
raven was born to yujleda, she never met her father and her mother was neglectful often leaving raven to fend for herself for days at a time while she was off doing whatever. her mother was later killed in a raid courtesy of delfiyon.
yujleda was big on metal work, they’d make their own tools, utensils, furniture, they spend a lot of time rebuilding old boats and other structures. raven was one of their best, especially when it came to rebuilding things. she was often sent to polis for jobs, not important enough to speak to the commander of course but she was well known.
Clan Building // ruins
yujleda territory is full of ruins, particularly one building, it’s a polis type building except wide rather than tall, not to say it isn’t tall. very few yujleda people don’t live there, it’s basically polis but just yujleda people.
there’s a gap in the centre of the building that’s thicker than you could imagine with trees. tall trees that reach above the building itself. while the building is mostly living space along with meeting and dining areas the centre is where most of the work is done. that’s not to say people don’t sometimes work inside or eat outside but for the most part anyway.
Clan Building // trade and allies
Allies
their main allies are trigeda and trishana mainly built because of the shared borders, they also share a border with podakru but they don’t interact much as they aren’t a fan of yujleda’s refusal to share their boat building skills even after podakru offered to share there’s, neither clan shares this with anyone but podakru offered, yujleda refused as they had no need for boats as big as podakru’s in their swampy terrain. yujleda has a relatively good relationship with boudalan and ingranrona though they don’t interact much unless necessary or for war.
Trade // boats
overtime yujleda people became very skilled at rebuilding old boats they find using their metal working skills their boats end up to be very dependable and convenient to their daily lives. while they do trade their boats they are very firm on not sharing or teaching their boat building skills to anyone not born to yujleda. podakru on the other hand trade their handmade boats, which is better comes down to preference.
Trade // crops
yujleda farm land is rich, they arguably have some of the most abundant agricultural resources among the clans, in close competition with trishana. crops are their main offer when it comes to trading, they have more than enough to sustain their population even without their livestock.
Trade // lumber
with a relatively large territory and more trees than they could ever use, they’ll trade their lumber to clans that have little to no access to trees, such as sangeda, boudalan and even ouskejon, though they prefer not to trade with them, same goes for azgeda though this is uncommon as they have lots of trees but a lot of them are rotten or simply a pain to cut down in the cold weather.
