Using QuikIO with LAN Discovery

When setting up QuikIO with LAN discovery mode, your iOS devices can automatically find your QuikIO computers in the same home network. This allows you to use QuikIO without requiring you singing into the QuikIO service.

If you signed in using your Facebook/Google/Email, please sign out/exit from both the computer and iOS application.

Once you exit/sign out, you should see "LAN discovery option" on your computer application.

On your iOS device, you should also see the LAN discovery option

Select LAN discovery option on both devices. Then your iOS device should be able to find QuikIO computers on the same home network.

If your home network does not allow for LAN discovery, you will be prompt to enter IP address and port number of your computer. The IP address and the port number of your computer can be found from the Settings tab on the QuikIO app on your computer.

Customize Subtitle for iOS 7

Many QuikIO users asked the questions on how to customize subtitle color and font size. With iOS 7, Apple offers a native solution to do so. Below is an example of changing font color to yellow:

To support iOS 7, we offer a new update 3.1. Here are the instructions to set up customized subtitle. 

1. Access iPhone Settings menu and press "General"

2. Press "Accessibility"

3. Press "Subtitles & Captioning"

4. Now you can select various styles or customize it on your own. Apple allows you to choose font size, color, font style, and background color.

QuikIO 3.0 setup instructions

QuikIO 3.0 introduces several advanced features including Movie Subtitle, Music playlist, FLAC/APE/OGG support.

Before you start using these new features after making inapp purchase, here are the steps to set up your QuikIO desktop app properly:

* Make sure that you update your desktop QuikIO app from the QuikIO website - http://www.quik.io/download.html.  The QuikIO desktop app version needs to be 3.0.1 or above.

* To enable video subtitle and audiotrack selection features:

You will need to reindex your video files. You can reindex all your video files by accessing the advanced tab on the desktop app. And press “Reindex my data" button.

If you have 3.0.1 desktop on your computer, the desktop app will only detect subtitle for a video if video is longer than 30 min. Newer version, starting from 3.0.3, will reduce the threshold to 15 min.

To allow for proper detection of subtitle for video files, the SRT filename and video filename needs to be consistent. The video filename needs to be a subset of subtitle file. For example, ABCD.mkv and ABCD_eng.srt is fine. But BCDE.mkv and ABCD_eng.srt will not be detected. 

Only embedded SRT/UTF8 is supported. VOBSUB is not supported.

* To enable music playlist, various codec support, low-bit-rate codec features:

Make sure you specify the location of the iTunes xml file and enable the import on the desktop app. 

You also want to make sure that all iTunes music files are included in the QuikIO service.

You will need to reindex your music files as the new indexing will pick up the newly supported music files. (If you have Mac, please make sure that QuikIO desktop app is 3.0.2 or newer)

Your QuikIO inApp Purchase

Thanks for making QuikIO inApp purchase.  Before you start using these new features, here are the steps to set up your QuikIO desktop app properly:

QuikIO 3.0 release significantly enhances the media capability for QuikIO app on iPhone and iPad. These includes:

To enable these features, you should update the companion QuikIO desktop application on your PC/Mac to 3.0.0 if you have an earlier version.

For subtitle feature, you will need to reindex your video files. (see below for steps to do so.)

  1. Passcode

You can now protect any wanted access to your files on computer when using QuikIO. You can turn on the Passcode control from the Settings menu and set the timer for passcode control there.

If you forget about your passcode, you have the options to logout when being prompted with passcode. Then you can login again and reset the passcode.

2. Video Subtitle

QuikIO now supports SRT subtitle and embedded subtitle in a MKV file (only embedded SRT/UTF8 is supported. VOBSUB is not supported). Unlike other apps, this is done by without re-transcode your video. So you get to enjoy the original 1080P/720P video without sacrificing video quality, long delay, and high CPU consumption (no running fans...)

NOTE : If you have previous version of QuikIO desktop app installed, you will need to update the desktop app. And reindex your video files. Just access the advanced tap and press "Reindex my data". Then you are ready to go. Also, make sure that the filename of the subtitle SRT file and video file has the proper naming convention.

If you upgrade from earlier version to 3.0.1 on your iPad/iPhone, you may need to delete the app first and re-download again. Version 3.0.1 has a bug that will continue to reset the subtitle back to OFF.

The video filename has to be the subset of the SRT subtitle filename. For example, if your video filename is "ABCD.mp4" then your subtitle SRT file should have the filename containing ABCD. "ABCDxxx.srt" will be considered whereas "BCDxxx.srt" will not. The system check the same folder or the subfolder where the video file is located at.

Also, to limit the indexing overhead, we only index subtitle files for video if video's duration is longer than 30 min.

3. Music 

Playlist creation and import (iTunes/Audiogalaxy)

You can create playlist from QuikIO app, or iTunes. QuikIO desktop app will monitor iTunes playlist information and on-the-fly import the playlist information. If you are ex-Audiogalaxy user, you can import AG playlist by configuring QuikIO desktop app. Access the advanced tap and then click to select import from Audiogalaxy.

To create playlist on QuikIO, you can select music from song list in a music album. Then create a new playlist or add into the existing playlist. 

NOTE: If you choose to import playlist from iTunes, you can only delete or edit the iTunes playlists from iTunes.

Shuffle all

Shuffle all is available at the front of the album list. You can play music continuously from your computer once you select shuffle all. 

FLAC, WMA, APE, OGG playback

Now you don't have to worry about the incompatibility of music format to your iOS devices. QuikIO automatically converts it for you. Playback is so smooth, you won't experience any difference to playing back MP3 files.

Low-bitrate music streaming (64 kbps) for 3G/4G playback

User can choose to select low-bitrate music streaming. QuikIO live transcodes your music for you. This can save up to 80% of data usage for your monthly plan. 

With QuikIO advanced transcoding technologies, you won't experience any playback delay. Music quality sounds better than your FM radio and most internet radio.

Advanced music buffering

With advanced music buffering, you can lose up to 20 minutes of data connectivity on your mobile phone and still be able to play music without interruption. This is perfect for users who listen to music while driving or on bus/subway system where the connectivity can be spotty.

4. Photo

Yes, we finally have time to add this necessary feature - Pinch and zoom. 

5. Search

This is another feature we should have long time ago. We work hard to make it simple such that it works across all media types. You can easily find document, video, songs, artists, and albums from the integrated search here.

6. Centralized database on your desktop computer

The new desktop application now allow for centralizing the location for generated thumbnails and cached video files. If you are a new QuikIO user, by default, all files will be stored on your computer. You can find the location by accessing the desktop app and click the Advanced tab. 

If you are previous QuikIO user, you can specify the location where you want the database to be stored on your computer. The application will start moving the database once you click ok.

Solving your QuikIO problem with MKV videos

QuikIO supports MKV video. However, If you have some MKV videos and cannot play them on QuikIO, you may encounter a bug with our desktop app.

Here is a quick fix before the next formal release of the QuikIO PC/Mac app:

QuikIO iPhone 2.0.4 release

We have made some good enhancements based on user feedbacks for the iPhone 2.0.4. The new release of iPhone includes several features that have been requested by many users:

1. Universal Search

QuikIO user now can quickly find song, album, artist, and files using the Search function. No more browsing through long list of items in the file lists, video, and music.

2. Reduced iPhone Cache Size 

We now remove the cache size configuration in the Settings. The maximum cache size for temporarily storing any contents is reduced to 200MB. This leaves you a lot of more space for saving your desired files on the phone.

3. QuikSend HD Quality Video to Friends and Family

The QuikSend video quality is changed from 360P to follow the settings on recipient's "remote access video quality" in the Settings menu. This means that your friends and family can enjoy HD (up to 720P) quality video when you share a movie or video through QuikSend.

4. QuikBeam HD Quality Video

The QuikBeam video quality is changed to HD (720P). This allows you to share high quality video among iPhones and iPad.

When using QuikSend, you can select any number of files from the file list, photo, and video to share. Your friends and family can immediately receive an alert and open their QuikIO app to view or save a copy.

For large files such as video, photo, and audio, this method saves unnecessary steps for sending emails or using cloud services for upload. As long as you keep your computer on, your friends and family can immediately enjoy the contents you share with them.

1. Select a folder from the file list and press QuikSend button at the top

2. Select the files you would like to share

3. Press OK button. Enter the your friend’s ID registered with QuikIO. (email address used with Facebook, Google, or QuikIO) and press Send.

4. Your friend will receive an alert. When QuikIO app is opened, a red badge will show on the QuikBox

5. Have your friend press QuikBox. Then he/she can immediately access the shared files. To enjoy the files, your friend can choose to view or save a copy for later viewing.

  This is really simple. Just like sending an email but without the long waiting time for uploading…. Why not giving it a try. Trust us, you will love it.

QuikIO App - the fastest way to transfer your photo, video, and files between iPhones

Fastest way to transfer files between iPhones

QuikIO allows you to transfer photo, video and any saved files between iPhones using the “QuikBeam” feature. This feature can become handy when your friends want to get a copy of your files to their iPhones.

If your friends are nearby, you can either use 3G/4G/LTE or Wi-Fi to transfer files. However, transferring large files over 3G/4G/LTE can easily eat up your monthly data plan. Often time, Wi-Fi may not be nearby and can be slow because of distance and the number of the users in the network.

Here is how mobile hotspot comes to the rescue. If you have mobile hotspot enabled on your iPhone, you can set up the connection between two iPhones. This has been proven to be the fastest and most reliable way to get your job done. With iPhone 5, the transferring speed can be up to 35Mbps whereas your regular connection speed with public Wi-Fi can be running at 2-10Mbps.

With 35Mbps transferring speed in your pocket, it take less than 3 minute to transfer 1G Byte video. For other file types that are typically smaller, transferring would be done before you even notice.

What’s great is that there is simply no data plan consumption since all data are transferred between two iPhones through direct Wi-Fi connection.  You get best of both worlds - fastest transfer, and no data usage cost.

Want to learn how to do this? Here are the steps on:

First, make sure that your data plan allows you to enable mobile hotspot on your iPhone. As long as one of the phones can become mobile hotspot, you are ready to go

Access the Settings menu from your iPhone 

Find “Personal Hotspot” and press the selection

Turn on personal hotspot on one of the iPhones

Turn on the Wi-Fi search on the other iPhone and connect to the mobile hotspot

Now both phones are connected through mobile hotspot Wi-Fi directly

Initiate the file transfer from camera roll or saved folder. Or you can even transfer files from other apps on your iPhone by “Open in” files with QuikIO. In this example, we will show how to transfer a previously saved video file

Press “Action” button - the one with uparrow. Then select videos you wish to transfer, Press “QuikBeam” to send to your friend.

If you don’t know your nearby friends’ ID, you can use QuikIO’s smart finder. Have your friend press “QuikIO” logo

Select your friend,  then press Send button. You are ready to connect to your friend’s iPhone for file transferring

Your speed will vary at the range of 25-35 Mbps depending on the file type and the interference in your environment. But this is just blazingly fast

The transfer will be completed very shortly. Yes, for this Harlem Shake video, it took 20 seconds

Now, you friend can have copy and enjoy. Even better, you friend can share this video with other friends
