Prompt 25 - Beaming
@jegulus-microfic January 25, Word count 412
Previous part First part
Things began amping up towards exams. All their professors reminded them in every lesson that they should be revising already. James was; he just maybe wasn’t putting as much effort into it as some of the others in his year.
Regulus had attended a few extra lessons with his professors to make sure he would be able to take his N.E.W.T.s, but those had stopped within the first few days as Regulus far exceeded their expectations, and they felt that he needed no further instruction to pass his exams.
James was tired of all the stress around him. It made him jittery watching his fellow classmates pulling their hair out and having near nervous breakdowns. They needed some fun, and he was just the man for the job. It took him a while to figure out what to do. He smacked his hand against his forehead when it came to him, because it was so obvious. Quidditch.
He gathered his friends together and told them his plan.
“You want to play a friendly game?” Mary asked, eyeing up Barty, who was already frothing at the mouth to get in the air.
“Yes,” James nodded. “All we’ve done for weeks now is revise. I don’t know about the rest of you, but my brain is fried.”
“Been that way for a while, Potter,” Lily jumped in, and the group burst into laughter. James laughed with them; he knew it was in jest.
“So I thought, what better way to blow off some steam than to play some Quidditch?” The others began to get excited and started talking animatedly amongst themselves.
“Who’s going to be the captain’s?” Marlene asked.
“I am,” Regulus said, standing up. “I want to at least get one chance at being Quidditch Captain before I leave.” No one could argue with him.
“And I’ll be the second, as it was my idea,” James added. The others groaned half-heartedly, and then they began picking teams, James unable to keep the beaming smile off his face at his friend's excitement.
Sirius sidled up next to him and hissed under his breath. “If you don’t pick me, I’ll never speak to you again.” James clapped him on the back.
“Don’t worry, mate,” James reassured him.
They lined up, and being the chivalrous man that he was, he let Regulus pick first, certain he’d choose Evan or Barty.
“I pick, Sirius,” Regulus announced with a sly smirk on his face.
