“Those are the guys who have pushed me to be a better hockey player, especially Quinn (Hughes),” Werenski said. “I have a ton of respect for him, and we’re pretty close (from working out together) in the offseason. At the Olympics (this past winter), we got even closer.
“He just kept telling me all season, ‘This is yours to lose,’ and, ‘Go for it.’ And it gave me a ton of confidence. I thought it was cool that I’m going to be up there with my peers and the guys I’ve played against.”
damn a new d-pairing ship has hit the ice, how will faber step it up this off season to make sure his d-partner stays HIS d-partner. but also so cool that quinn has no qualms about praising someone, even if they play his position, like he isn't one to fluff up someone and coming from him it's so huge.
LOL I do think it’s nice Quinn is so respectful and supportive of his peers and is friends with so many players. I think all those Olympics guys, whatever you think of the stuff around them, really did bond strongly and feel a connection to each other that will likely last a lifetime. Not to also make it about Fabes but that’s my brand but Werenski also shouted out Brock as someone he got closer to and loved a lot from the Olympics so just a lot of defensemen love around. It seems like it’s a very elite core with a lot of admiration for each other (even Makar! Threw so much love at 743 during the playoffs).
I’ve said it before but this is one of my favorite eras of hockey because there are so many great D men around. It’s the most exciting position to me. I think Werenski is generally a boring hockey player but no doubt he’s talented. Deserved!
