Besides Mike, Marley had barely made time to see other people outside work, which was something she had to change. She had such great friends in her life, people she truly admired and appreciated, and her actions needed to reflect that. Having this brunch with Quinn arranged made her joyous, and it gave her something to look forward to during the week. Although she barely knew Quinn back when she lived in Lima, being her friend still felt like she was connected to her previous hometown in the best way possible.
Marley took an Uber to the place Quinn had suggested, walking up to the tables hoping to spot her friend. When she saw a blonde woman call her name and wave, she grinned, heading towards her waving friend. “Hey, yeah, it’s perfect!” She reciprocated the hug, squeezing her gently with her embrace. “It’s so good to see you.” Sitting down, she opened the menu already placed at her seat and began browsing. “I didn’t get to thank you properly for coming out to see us perform the other night. Things got so hectic, so I didn’t get to talk to everyone. Wasn’t Sam amazing too, though?”
There were a few years separating the two girls, but Quinn felt as if she and Marley had attended Lima together, they may have been good friends. Quinn’s reputation had always been a mess in high school, but she could see someone down-to-earth like Marley keeping her more grounded. And perhaps out of trouble. At least they had their friendship now though. Elated to catch up, Quinn returned to her seat after a friendly hug and perused the menu, though her eyes kept rising as she listened to her friend. “It’s great to see you too! I feel like it’s been too long. If you don’t count the concert,” she mused lightly. “I’m terrible about a social life these days, but it’s something I need to work on.”
Decided on what she would order, Quinn closed the menu and cast Marley her full attention. “That’s okay, I knew you must have been really busy. That place was swarmed. It was wonderful to hear so much praise though. Very well deserved,” Quinn pointed out, and she nodded at Marley’s declaration. Her cheeks heated a little at the mention of Sam; Quinn knew their relationship hadn’t ended well, but every time she thought of him it was hard not to let that old high school crush seep in. “He was. He always has been though. Swept me off my feet the first time we sang together,” she admitted shyly. “You two make quite the dynamic duo. So, besides keeping your work schedule busy, what else have you been up to?”
