She’s all you can think about, huh?
Speeding across town, Josh knew he was running late to see Harper. He already felt bad for bailing on her not long after they both arrived to share coffee together. Work had kept him busy, really busy and he felt as if she finally deserved the truth behind their father’s absence. His running came to a halt, arms flailing because he still had to get used to the vampire speed he now possessed. Knocking on her front door, Josh took a deep breath and then allowed it to escape, chest deflating quickly. He’d worked this conversation over and over again in his head. However, Malia had helped bring him to reasonable senses once more when she told him that Harper would understand why his father’s death had happened. Still, a part of him worried that she would turn him away after he gave her the truth. Once the door swung open, Josh offered his sister a soft smile. Extending a small box out to her, the hybrid shrugged his shoulders. “I figured I’d bring my favorite sister some donuts as an apology for taking off so quickly the other day.” As his shoulders relaxed once more, Josh tilted his head up marginally. “You got a few moments to spare? There’s something I’ve got to talk to you about.”

To be honest, I’m totally up for killing you right now, but I’ve got other priorities.
Oh how I wish I could..

Harper: Too busy to grab a cup of coffee with the big sister who misses her baby brother?
Harper: It was great, though I had to do more than expected because Stiles showed up for Caroline.
Harper: Not that I minded it, I love my job. But I still wanna make it to LA one day and audition.
Harper: Are you busy again right now? Or do you have time to grab that cup of coffee with me?
Joshua: I'm sorry! I'm a horrible brother.
Joshua: I promise I'll make it up to you with plenty of coffee, on me.
Joshua: I'm glad you had a good time. Definitely don't give up on your dream though. (:
Joshua: I was actually on my way to grab a cup before hitting the station. Meet you there?

That kind of feeling? Was she supposed to know just what he was referring to? Because Malia wasn’t quite sure since she’d never been in love with anybody since she’d been turned back into her human form. She was close to Stiles and considered him to be her best friend, but he’d always been longing for Caroline and Malia’s feelings for him had never surpassed that platonic level. That meant that the brunette had never experienced love or any kind of romantic feelings for anybody in her entire life, which would make Josh her first. She did have them for him, though the last thing that Malia expected was for him to return them and that was why she was so flustered about his comments. Not in a million years would she expect Josh to look at her as more than just a friend as she wasn’t used to any guy doing that with her. Every male she’d met and befriended had just remained in the friend zone, making this completely foreign territory for her. “You brought someone pizza? Who?” she questioned, eyebrow quirked while confused eyes still stared at him as he spoke about her, but not directly. Malia wasn’t that well versed with these kinds of things, she often took them literally and didn’t get the real meaning behind them. But it became clear to her when Josh actually said the words, but it wasn’t a shock to her that she was the first girl he’d ever had feelings for because she knew him well enough to know that he was sort of a loner. He wasn’t someone who could often be found in large masses of people, so how was he gonna meet someone, right? Though now she desperately wanted to know why this was scary to him - mainly because it was scary for her too, but she didn’t want to say that out loud. Instead, she’d decided to question Josh about his feelings, just to see what he’d say. “Why’s it scary?”
Joshua hadn’t expected Malia to ask why it was scary and he was caught off guard, evident in the way he then stuffed his hands into his jacket pockets. “Well, since it’s all new and everything, it’s scary.” Was that really the best answer he could give her? “I’m just saying that I’m not really sure how to put it into words... I guess you could say it’s scary because I don’t know where the road goes from here or what it means for us.” Pausing, he became even more flustered and chuckled nervously. “There is an us, isn’t there? I’m not just imagining it or acting totally weird am I?” Crinkled eyes showed that Josh was amused by his embarrassment, trying to shake it away as if it was nothing. The last thing Joshua wanted was to wear out his welcome with Malia or assume there was something between them when there could’ve been other guys somewhere else in her life aside from himself. “How do you feel about all this?” He suddenly asked, curious eyes turning over to rake in the sight of her face, trying to decipher her expression. The rushing water of the falls nearby soothed Josh’s insides and kept him grounded to reality, despite his nervousness. What if they became more than they were already? What if Malia didn’t feel the same way for him? So many questions and yet, he couldn’t open his mouth to ask them. Maybe due to fear of rejection, maybe out of fear that he’d totally put her off by what he’d admitted. “I’ve never really been accepted before, you know? Aside from my sister, I never made a lot of close friends or had any romantic feelings for anyone.” Malia would be the first person Josh ever felt that way for.

Harper: So I've come to the conclusion that you're avoiding me or you started living under a rock or in a cave.
Harper: Either those things or you moved to Australia, but I highly doubt you'd go across the world just like that.
Josh: I think living under a rock is the most accurate explanation.
Josh: No, but really, work's just been a little crazy.
Josh: How was Milan? Everything you expected or not so much?

”Well, given the fact that you’re you, I’m not surprised that there are emotions attached from your side.” Malia wasn’t gonna assume that those emotions were romantic, but she knew Josh and she knew that he wasn’t a cold person. She’d expected him to maybe care about someone who’d been kind enough to help him through his transformations and his new life as a hybrid because it was who he was. She wasn’t about to be presumptuous here, though when he spoke up again, she felt her eyebrows elevating in response. “I’m far too familiar with weird and scary for it to be those things for me.” she knew that plenty of people thought she herself was weird and scary, which meant that she’d learned not to feel that way about most things in life anymore. Her life had been anything but normal almost from the get go, so Malia had adapted to things being different from a very early age. And then Josh surprised her even further by sort of clarifying his feelings, yet Malia still wasn’t planning on assuming anything right now. She looked a bit flustered as well as curious as her hazel hues lifted to meet his green eyes. “What kinda feeling?”
Knowing that Malia was familiar with weird and scary did help settle Josh’s nerves. Though, maybe he hadn’t made it clear enough that he had romantic feelings for the brunette as her eyebrows elevated in his direction. “You know... that kind of feeling.” He knew if his heart were still beating, his entire face would’ve been beet red. Clearing his throat, his emerald eyes remained linked with hazel counterparts and Josh could see the curiosity spinning behind them. Sure, he still had a lot to learn about Malia but he could decipher her interest in his statement. “That kind of feeling where I feel like I can take on the whole world. Or, that kind of feeling when you bring that person’s favorite pizza and you just see their face light up.” A grin cracked on his lips then, hinting that Malia was that person in question. “Or, the kind of feeling you get when that person texts you late at night and takes a walk with you just because you need to let a few things off your chest. Tilting his head backwards slightly, he let out a large breath before his smile widened in the darkness. “That kind of feeling that gets you excited but anxious all at once. Or that feeling when you just wanna spend all of your time with someone.” Pausing, he shook his head marginally. “I’m pretty sure that these feelings are amplified due to the supernatural aspect of everything but what I’m saying is, I have feelings for you, Malia. Real feelings. And you’re the first girl I’ve ever felt this way about so yeah, it’s scary but it’s also... Well, it’s exciting all the same.”

Those were the last words she’d ever think anyone would say to her. She was a good therapist? Well, maybe that made sense as therapists were always brutally honest too, right? So perhaps that was the part about her that made her a good one - she wasn’t afraid to tell people what she was thinking, even if that was unusual, unique or unpopular. “When Scott told me to help you with your transformations, I figured it’d just be like every other werewolf we’ve helped so far. That it’d just be, you know… everything we’ve been doing, but without the emotions attached to it.” Malia wasn’t afraid to admit that, nor did she think that Josh would deny that there were emotions of some kind from his side. They’d been spending a lot of time together, mostly because of his transformation into a hybrid, but they also hung out with each other outside of that. Malia had never done that before with anyone that Scott had asked her to help out, making this completely foreign territory for her and truthfully, she wasn’t sure where it would lead - she had nothing to compare it to after all.
Josh listened attentively when Malia explained that what the pair was doing was far different than anything she’d done before or expected out of Scott’s request. She wasn’t afraid, at least, he didn’t detect that at all. Whenever he wasn’t with Malia, he was thinking about Malia or wanting to be around her all the same. “What if I told you that there were emotions attached to it from my end too?” He wasn’t going to lie or be dishonest. Besides, many times in life he’d been told what an awful liar he was. Josh continued to peer at the other hybrid with nothing but affection. When they’d first met, he’d been a little uncertain as to how their relationship would play out. He wasn’t sure what to expect or what Scott meant when he’d asked Malia to be like a mentor to Josh. But now? He couldn’t imagine his life without the brunette or without the friends he’d made in Mystic Falls. “That’s not weird or scary for you, is it? If I’m being a total weirdo you could just knock me out right here and call it a day.” He mused, half teasing because he didn’t want to put any sort of pressure on Malia. Things were moving at a steady pace, sure. But Josh didn’t want to overwhelm her or wear out his welcome in any sense. “I’ve just never had this feeling before about anyone so... It’s new for me too.” He’d always been a loner of sorts, never pursuing someone romantically in the way he had the brunette.

”Maybe you should be careful what you wish for then.” Malia commented, her own tone of voice matching Josh’s playful one. Brown colored eyes closed on cue once his lips pressed to her forehead in a gesture of affection, opening them back up once Josh pulled back again. The brunette knew what it felt like when your world was crashing down all around you and you feared the earth would swallow you whole. But that was why you had people who cared about you in your life, people who cared enough to pull you through those dark days and reminded you that it would all end up being alright in the end. “I figured since Scott’s assigned me to be your therapist, I could take this one on too.” she teased, though when Scott had assigned her to be the one to guide Josh through his transformations, she hadn’t expected this to also become a part of their dynamic. Malia assumed it would just be her showing another rookie the ropes of being a triggered werewolf, but things were different with Josh. She actually felt a deeper connection with him and that part was new, she’d never felt that before with anyone else. It scared her somewhat as it was a foreign feeling, but the brown haired girl was willing to explore it, wishing to know what it meant.
The playful tone of Malia’s voice caused Josh’s grin to spread wider upon his face. Even in the dark of the night, he could detect the look on her face and in her eyes. He laughed gently when she mentioned Scott assigning her to play the role of his therapist. “You’re a good therapist.” Josh commented, still light in nature. There was a definite shift in his person as the weight of his burdens had been lifted from his chest. Honestly, it was nice to have someone who understood him, who didn’t judge and didn’t expect him to be the poster boy of perfection. When Malia had agreed to help him through transition, he knew it wouldn’t be easy but with her as his guide, it felt like he could live as normal a life he could and still have these crazy powers and abilities. Truth be told, he’d never really tapped into his werewolf abilities much and to now be a mixed species with vampire abilities, it was enough to unravel him right then and there. But Josh stood strong next to Malia, “I’m thankful I met you and Scott. I don’t know what I’d do without him. Or you.” He felt important to Malia, important and respected in her eyes. Even with the overwhelming emotions and heightened senses though, Josh could tell he was falling for her and hard.

The brown haired girl solemnly nodded at his question, the corners of her lips curving upwards into a sympathetic smile. It felt nice to see him being so receptive to her gesture, feeling his fingers wrapping around her hand as she kept it on his shoulder. She wanted to help Josh be more fearless, to stop overthinking things so much because she knew that that was what he did most of the time. He was so consumed by what other people would think of him, all because he was a good person and wanted others to feel like they could rely on him no matter what. “I know you, Josh. I know you want others to feel like they can rely on you and you’re scared that they won’t feel that way if they know the dark parts of you. But I rely on you. And if those other people really care about you, they won’t stop feeling the way that they do. You’re always worried about what people think of you, but you really shouldn’t because I think it’s pretty clear that you’re a good person. That’s not gonna change.” Malia commented, her voice strong yet soft, showing him that she was serious about her own words and that she wasn’t just saying these things to make him feel better. One of her eyebrows moved up at his next question though, an incredulous expression soon following. “Did you really just ask me that? I thought you knew me well enough by now to know that I don’t fear people. They usually fear me.”
Malia definitely brought out the better in Josh. Sure, he was always going to be some nerdy, awkward and sensitive guy. But when she looked at him like that, it gave him reason to be strong and push through whatever difficulty he was having. It was nice to have someone ground him, keep him from his biggest demons like his own racing mind. And when the brunette said she relied on him, his emerald hues glistened with a softness behind them. Tilting his head slightly, a small grin danced across his lips, knowing the other hybrid felt he was a good person was good enough for him to work through this problem of his. It had left him speechless for a long moment until he laughed gently at her next words. “I know. It was a stupid question, wasn’t it?” Shaking his head, Josh felt incredibly at ease around Malia, and he felt as though his head was on straight now with the entire situation. “Oh, I don’t doubt that. But me? I don’t fear you at all.” Now his voice dripped with a playfulness to it. Closing the gap between their bodies, he snaked a free hand around the woman and pressed his lips tenderly to her forehead. “Although, I think if I pissed you off enough, then yeah, I’d probably fear you too.” Again, he was teasing her. But he placed another, second kiss to her forehead again. “Thank you, Malia. For letting me just... talk. But also, for reminding me that it can be okay. Sometimes I need that little reminder that the sky isn’t going to fall down on me.”

Malia didn’t think that was possible, for truth to hurt more than lies. She’d never believed in that and she wasn’t about to start now. When he finally revealed what was going on, she didn’t feel scared off and she wasn’t put off by what Josh was telling her either. If anything, Malia sympathized with him because when you were a supernatural being, death happened more than it would with humans. Death was more present in your life and the newly turned supernaturals would have a worse time dealing with that than the ones who were more experienced. Carefully, the hybrid laid a hand on his shoulder, lightly squeezing it in a form of comfort. “You should tell her that. Explain it all to her so she knows the entire story. She’ll still love you, trust me. But you can’t be who you truly are with her if she doesn’t know the truth. And it’s her father too, so she should know. She has a right to. She’ll probably need time, but if she really cares about you, she won’t cut you out of her life.” Malia commented, hoping that her words would settle his senses a little bit and calm Josh down some. “I mean, you’re a supernatural being. Death and accidents happen more to you than they do to normal humans. Especially in this town. Besides, you’ll still have me too.”
Joshua was so lost in thought, so distressed over his truth that he barely felt Malia’s hand come into contact with his shoulder until she squeezed it gently. This prompted his attention to return to her, misty eyes staring at the other hybrid with hope at her words. “You really think so?” Josh had spent so much time worrying that his sister would disown him or that she’d hate him for accidentally killing his father. Reaching up, Josh’s hand found Malia’s, laid atop it and his fingers softly curled around her hand. Her comfort and the small promise she made him caused him to blink away the tears behind his eyes. Breathing out a soft exhale, Josh nodded his head. “Alright. I’ll tell her when she gets back from Milan.” Knowing he was putting a time frame on when he’d reveal his secret, Josh knew he’d have no choice but to spill. “I think I’ve just spent all this time holding myself accountable that I thought everyone else would.” It was true. He’d been dwelling on the accident since it happened and Joshua needed some sort of closure. He had expected Malia to run when she’d learned the truth and yet, she hadn’t. “You’re not afraid of me?” He suddenly asked, curiosity dripping in his voice.
