i think about the way tech looks at phee so often(and the entire sanctuary novel actually).

i think about just how awful and tragic it is for tech to be the one to die. not just because obviously its a character people loved that just died but like. tech had a future the others kind of didn't. wrecker wasn't fully set on pabu, hunter was willing to stay only because it was the best thing for omega, but the novel suggests that not even really OMEGA was set on it either. they all wanted something different. but tech? tech was happy with pabu.

tech was happy with phee.

clones are built for war, we see it time and time again they struggle to see themselves separate from their created purpose. even among the batch, none of them thought about the war ending until it did and then they all had to scramble against a galaxy that was changing too fast. but tech was able to see a little future. he had wants and hopes outside of the war, the empire, clone force 99.

and he never even gets a chance to tell phee or his brothers, even if they all knew.

My headcanons: What Pet Names Clones Use

Gn reader

A/n: It's been a hot minute since I've written anything, I've been busy with work and I'm currently sick... But I've had some spare time and whipped this up!

Hunter uses “baby” or “sweetheart”, likes the way it makes you react, how much quicker it catches your attention. But if you have a title, he likes to use them to subtly show off your accomplishments. Yeah, you’re his partner, but there’s so much more to you than that, and he’s beyond proud of who you are. 

Crosshair doesn’t really use pet names, and will make fun of people who do use them. However, he also doesn’t like PDA, so in public situations where he needs people to know you’re together without explicitly stating it, he’ll call you “Cyar’ika” the Mando’a for “Beloved”.  He doesn’t think it counts but it totally does. 

Wrecker calls you “baby”. And he isn’t casual about it, he uses it every chance he gets. Sometimes he’ll start talking about nothing, or ask you stupid questions just so he can call you that. 

Tech prefers “love” or “dear”. As you got older, he leaned towards “dear” more. Saying things like “Yes, dear?” in the mornings, and moments when you’re alone (or there are few people around). He will primarily use your first name, or a nickname if you insist, but that slowly shifts as you grow older, turning to a rise in use of pet names. You’ll never catch him calling you “babe”. 

Echo calls you “babe” or “honey” depending on how long you’ve been together. In the beginning, when you were dating, it was “babe”. But once you were married, or later when you were more committed with more years under your belt, it became “honey”. 

Jesse will, in unserious moments, call you “dude”. He does it so much it’s a pet name at this point. But when he’s trying to be romantic or just a little more serious, then he’ll use “babe”, also if he’s trying to show you off to friends or his brothers. 

Kix isn’t a big user of pet names, he thinks your name is just fine. But he likes when you use pet names on him. His heart skips a beat every time you call him “babe”, and you tease him about how he might have to check himself for complications on how red his cheeks get. 

Fives is a big user of “babe”. He uses it more than your actual name. Although he once went on a spree of using dumb pet names that you hated like “Sugarplum” and “Honey Bun” just to bother you, and because it was funny. He uses babe so much that when he uses your actual name it feels intimate, like he’s saying “I love you” without uttering the words. 

Rex doesn’t really use pet names, but he’ll use whatever your title is. This differs depending on what your job is, but an example would be “general” “commander” “senator” “captain” “chef” whatever it may be, he’ll use it. He’ll also call you by your last name more than your first, a kind of teasing formality. 

Cody likes calling you “love” or “baby”, but more times the latter. He somehow makes them sound formidable when it’s just a pet name, and you hear the warmth in his voice every time he says it. Around friends or family, he hardly uses pet names, thinking they’re informal. But that doesn’t mean they don’t creep up on him when he least expects it, and you watch as he realizes what he said. He quickly shrugs it off, like it was intentional, and that makes it even more meaningful. 

Wolffe is possessive, and doesn’t need to use pet names for people to understand that you’re off limits. He’s also said on multiple occasions that pet names are immature and childish, you’ve caught on to the embarrassment and the fact that he just doesn’t want anyone to catch him using them. But in those quiet moments, in the morning when he’s just waking up, you’ll hear a quiet whisper of “babe” “love” or “honey” so quiet that you think you misheard him. He won’t repeat himself, and deny that he even said anything to begin with.

Fox likes to, at work or in public, call you by your last name, and drop the “Mr/Ms/Mx” or whatever your title is. It feels intimate, like a secret only the two of you know, even if your relationship isn’t unknown. But in private, he hates bringing work home, and will use your first name like a fresh breath of air, like he’s been waiting all day to say it.

Mayday will call you “Lovely” “Gorgeous” “Beautiful” etc, things with syllables. He wants you to feel like every time he talks to you, he’s completely present, and it’s entirely meaningful to him. He’s holding onto everything you say, and articulate. He shows this by the pet names he calls you, which aren’t quick or throw-away terms by any means. He wants you to know how much you mean to him. 

Gregor called you “Mr/Mrs/Mx Captain Traitor” once, and now it’s become an inside joke, one that confused everyone around you. But the two of you find it funny, and it’s something just for the two of you to have. He’ll also call you “babe” or “baby” if he’s in the mood, or isn’t using your name or the first pet name. 

Emerie likes nicknames more than pet names. After you started calling her “Em” she decided to give one to you too. She isn’t a big user of pet names, some of them she finds to sound too casual, and that’s the last thing she feels for you. So a nickname, that she created for you, is her favourite.

TBB x gn reader: reacting to partner who cries a lot

Hunter:

Especially early on, he's rushing to your side almost before the tears start to fall. His senses pick up on the hitch in your breathing, the change in your heartbeat, and he can tell something's wrong. Will be gently holding your shoulders and asking what's wrong almost before you realize you're crying

Is genuinely confused the first few times when the answer is something relatively small or just that you needed a cry. His protectiveness is screaming for him to find the issue to fix for you and it throws him off if there isn't really much he can do

His first few attempts at comfort are just slightly awkward. Like hesitant back rubs and slightly stiff hugs accompanied by a quiet, "It's okay… I've got you…"

Adjusts to it fast though and quickly is able to stop his gut reaction to treat every episode like an emergency lol. Instead of asking you a bunch of questions and trying to immediately fix everything he just opens his arms to let you come cuddle up to him

Gets really good at reading what kind of cry it is, like stress or frustration or sadness, and finding the specific kinds of comfort you need for each one

Tech:

So honestly your crying initially puzzles him more than anything. He instantly asks you what's the matter and when you explain, mr "what is your issue" here gives his blunt opinion that your emotional response seems a little disproportionate. He’s not trying to be mean, but he doesn’t really get it

His instinct is problem solving and so he tries to comfort you with practical solutions, logical explanations, stuff like that because, well, it's what would help him in your situation and he really does want to help you

When there isn't really a problem to solve and he wraps his head around the fact that this is just something you sometimes need in order to regulate your emotions, that changes his perspective on it quite a bit

Becomes pretty patient with you after that. Will drape an arm around your shoulders, rubbing slow circles with his thumb, and let you cry as he attempts to reassure you. Pays a lot of attention to what seems to comfort you/what you usually need from him and remembers it

Sometimes will gently distract you instead if that seems like it'll be helpful. Shows you whatever he's working on or reads you stuff from his datapad

Wrecker:

Gets so worried when he sees you crying and immediately pulls you into a hug as he asks what's wrong

Honestly? The most understanding when it comes to this. He doesn't like fully get it but he doesn't try to needle or question it like the others might. He lets you talk about what's bothering you or just let you cry and will hold you the whole time

Also careful not to let you feel embarrassed about it. He reasons through it like, everybody's got a thing. Some people yell, some people punch walls, you cry. No big deal lol

His comfort is very physical. Big hugs, letting you cuddle with him, rubbing your back, stroking your hair. Will give you Lula to hug if you want

Will sometimes try to coax a laugh from you to help you feel better. Tells you stories like dramatic retellings of missions or terrible jokes to get you to smile. Seeing you laugh after crying makes him feel really proud and happy

Crosshair:

Your tears INSTANTLY catch his attention and he gets concerned immediately, his gaze flicking over you and taking in the situation

The first time he realizes you're crying over something small or just because you need to, he's a little irritated because he feels like he got worried for nothing. Says something dry/borderline mean like "Really? You're crying over that?"

Feels really guilty after that first time where he got snappish though and never does it again, is much more careful about watching his tongue

Instead of talking he comforts through proximity or touch typically. Goes and sits next to you and silently raises his arm to let you settle against his side, or pulls you into his lap and just silently strokes your back or hair

Even after he's softened, when you feel better he'll tease you about it a little. Will mutter that you're such a crybaby under his breath but it's become affectionate at this point and he pulls you closer while saying it

Echo:

Whenever you start crying early on Echo is quick to ask what happened, if you're hurt, what he needs to do. Is concerned for you and trying to evaluate the situation

Learning that there isn't always a tangible problem to solve throws him for a loop. He hates feeling like he can't fix what's upsetting you

Asks if you wanna talk about it and if you need anything, not totally sure what he should do but wanting to do something

Once he does figure out what helps you though he's extremely consistent. Remembers exactly what helps and turns it into a routine, never needs to make you explain yourself twice or try to justify anything. He just makes sure he's there and helping you how he can

As long as you don't want to be alone, he prefers to stick with you until you're feeling better. Talks through what's bothering you, or distracts you with talk about whatever else, or holds your hand and rubs your knuckles as he lets you cry yourself out
